How to Make 2D Tile sets for games Part 1 + MoreHey everyone! How to Make 2D Tile sets for games Part 1 + More1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I just uploaded a new tutorial, the first in the series, all about making 2D tiles and tile sets for games!
Things covered in this episode:
- The anatomy of a basic tileset
- Setting up and using Photoshop's grid system for making tiles
- Using Photoshop's Offset filter to make tiles seamless
- Adapting a tiling texture into a tileset
- Some results of a finished basic tileset
- Thoughts and some opinions!
- I forgot to master the audio. Sorry if I sound just a tad muffly!
Also recently uploaded by Tyler Edlin, this video about perspective drawing where I also have a segment about how to make perspective grids in Photoshop!
By the way, have you been paying attention to my tumblr? I post stuff like this more often there, as I only see my DA journal as a means to communicate about mo

R.I.P. PockyIt's really hard for me to tell you this but Pocky passed away about 12 hours ago, at 1 pm Friday Oct 25th. I lost my balance in the colony cage and accidentally step on him who was behind me. He didn't die instantly. I thought he wouldn't. He could still fly and when I put him on my hand he had started panting. When I brought him inside my house, he had a fit then died.R.I.P. Pocky9 months ago in Personal More Like This
I can't stop crying now. I feel so horrible and hate myself. I miss him so much I can't stop crying and calling his name. It's so hard to accept his death. I can still feel him everywhere. Everything in my house reminds me of him. I can't sleep on my bed because I usually snuggled with him there before we went to sleep. I can't believe he had to go away like this. I feel so guilty no matter what I try to think of, no matter what my husband said. I can't even cry as harder as I want because he will be mad.
I don't know if Pocky knew his time would be up soon. But this month he wanted to cuddle more with me. He usually a

Sketchbook Pro 6So most of you know that I'm a Sketchbook Pro user.Sketchbook Pro 62 years ago in Personal More Like This
A few days back, Autodesk released Sketchbook Pro 6, and I think this is the version that's going to make a lot of people who have YET to experience Sketchbook Pro in full, or haven't really given the past versions a chance, switch over to making it their digital drawing software of choice; heck, even their PAINTING software of choice.
We still have the cleverly-designed user interface, that makes it easy on the eyes and mind when we're brainstorming and sketching. With the handful of new tools introduced, we still have a clutter-free drawing environment, and man, there's some awesome tools this time around. I'll go down the list:
The Brush Library
The main brush toolbar itself has a click-and-drag function, allowing you to store all your often-used brushes in each of the "lanes". You then can click the button on the upper-right and then a fu

HAPPY BIRTHDAY dA!This is a note I wrote yesterday on FaceBook. Seems appropriate to share it here today!HAPPY BIRTHDAY dA!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I wanted to share a few facts about a company that is very dear to my heart. It's been my favourite place on the web for about seven years now. It also has some impressive little-known stats - it's the sixth biggest social network in the world. It has 28 million users. It set the standard for the user icon, and incorporated the first 'like' button. It was also, apparently, the first social network, 12 years ago.
I love it because I find it to be a wonderfully positive environment - way less haters than pretty much any site I ever invested any time in. It's supportive of creators, whatever level they are at. It encourages diversity, and doesn't judge it's users, no matter what they are into (pretty much!), writers, artists and photographers all.
It also, many people don't know, sponsored artist's alley at SDCC, keeping it in the main hall, laying dow
Silent Hill: RevelationWow. And I thought the first Silent Hill film missed the point.Silent Hill: Revelation2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I was surprised that a sequel was made at all, given the rather poor narrative (and acting. That kid was almost as bad as the brat from Phantom Menace) of the first movie, but in comparison with Revelation, it was positively Shakespearian.
If there's a third film in the franchise, I'll be amazed (to a point. We have had, what is it, 5 Resident Evil films, now?)
How hard is it to wrap your head around the concept, Film-Makers? Silent Hill has no face, it has no agenda, it's just an evil f**king mirror that reflects your personal demons. It's the perfect vehicle to use different actors to tell different stories with each and every film. It's potentially the James Bond of horror set-ups. Play it right and you could get 50 films out of it, easy.
You devolve it into a generic, fun-fair, ghost-train and you're pissing away the concept with such force you blow a hole in the lavatory wall.

DanSyron presents "High Roller"Lately, most of you know I've been talking about starting something completely original. I had the longstanding desire to create a series with an idea that was not fandom-based or anything of the sort. It started one night when a friend and I were talking about play-on-words and we ran into an idea that we excitedly built upon until we believed we had something amazing. If you like the idea, favorite this journal. If you have any questions with the idea, its characters, story, weapons, etc., ask me here. I will attempt to answer all of them.DanSyron presents "High Roller"2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Picture a world not unlike our own, but set about 150-200 years from now. Society in this series is anthropomorphic. Society has evolved into a very interesting place. Cities now span thousands of miles, skyscrapers tower miles into the heavens, but every aspect of life is inspired by Casino themes. Neon lights, ritzy appearance (not unlike the Art De

Hot Topic DA Art Theft...Maybe?Changed User AgreementsHot Topic DA Art Theft...Maybe?3 months ago in Personal More Like This
You know what I hate about companies? The fact that they can, effectively, take their user agreements and update them without your consent. Thus changing the rules to something you’ve already signed long long ago. I signed up for DA 10 years ago but I’ve never once been asked to agree to the frequently new Terms of Service Agreements they keep updating.
Recently it’s been called to our attention that now DA can license your work, even fanart, off to other companies for a profit. DA gets licensing money, the product makers get money off the merch they sell... but the artist gets nothing. Worse yet, DA doesn’t even need to ask you for permission to do so.
This recently came to our attention in a big way when DA user :iconrismo: discovered that his Adventure Time fanart was being sold on Hot Topic without his knowledge. http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/Adventure+Time+In+The+Rain+T-Shirt-10171581.jsp
