Last Update: January 16, 2013
And finally! :D Mei desperately needed a new reference haha *^*

Update: January 16, 2013 (a few hours laterr) I added the optional headset & some closeups!

Ahh and I purposely took my liberties with the anatomy ahaa~~
It was fun making her super slim and unrealistic//shot//

Headset: Optional and worn when listening to music, singing, etc.
~~~
I was going to add a headshot in there for a better view of her 'M' marking as well as her tongue and teeth...
and her headphones and whatnot but ahh pssh I'll do that later when I'm not lazy and have more time, I wonder when that'll be x___x
So for now enjoy~!
I missed her original grayscale too so I added that in with edits as her X-form which is when she's all into herself~! Woot!
Enjoy! More to be added later xD
She was my fourth OC (or fifth?) to be ever made and my one true sparkle/scene character ~! xD
Butttt I still like keeping majority natural haha x___x
~THE IMAGE HANGING HERE IS A PREVIEW. I REPEAT. THIS IMAGE IS A PREVIEW. TUTORIAL IS HERE. CLICK HERE!~
As my way of expressing my gratitude for those who faved and commented and watched me, I made a tutorial out of my thankfulness.
I have to warn you that this isn't a beginner tutorial, meaning you need some basic idea of art, and knowing how to do digital art on more sophisticated programs. It also means I am going to be uber brief.
Other warning is it is technically for SAI, but I am 100 % sure that it can be done with Photoshop, Illustudio, Corel Painter or whatever drawing tools which can blend colors and make varieties of tools. But don't ask me questions about how you do it on the other programs.
Feel free to drop questions, since I suck at explaining.
Anyways, I hope you learn something from this.
Shun Kazami (C) BONES
Will make a Japanese version of this later.
Yes I am still a Towa no Quon fag
Difficulty Level - Easy
This tutorial will teach you how to make a giant thumbnail for your journal or anywhere else html can be used.
The giant thumbnail will fill your journal from one side to the other.
You can make giant thumbnails from any image on the internet
Enjoy!
Let me know how it goes!
Please fave! :+fav:
Sketchy ref for two japanese themed characters!
The first one is quite old, a sketch from over a year ago xD
The second is her brother which I figured would be a neat friend for Sei :la:
Bad ref will be fixed asap xD
Just posting this to get colors and all down ;D
AS REQUESTED BY :iconreiplaz:, here's a little bit of a lining tutorial
I KNOW MY WRITING SUCKS so here's an actual text version in case you can't make out any words:
open up your favourite program (I'm using paint tool SAI) and work your magic to create a beautiful sketch thing
I like to sketch in bright colours, but it doesn't really matter
NEXT I like to turn down the opacity of the sketch layer. this helps me see what the hell I'm doing when I start lining
before you start lining, PLEASE make sure you've made a new layer above the sketch or else you will end up wanting to off yourself. nothing is worse than accidentally doing your lines on your sketch
now it's time to choose your weapon. I don't really have a set tool, but usually it's one of these three
so this is the part where I like to zoom in like a fiend as you can see, we're at 600% right now
sometimes I zoom in even closer, it just helps to keep your lines controlled
well like I said, I ended up zooming in even more. I also decided to use the marker tool instead of the pen tool. Don't be afraid to bail on your original plan and experiment. It's art, you just kinda have to feel it out every time
then you just go at it with short, quick strokes. pay attention to the lines in your sketch that look best (what I mean by this is sometimes your lines don't look like your sketch does. usually it's because you're not doing your lineart over the lines of the sketch that your brain emphasizes, so it looks a little off. it helps to squint at your sketch a little to figure out what lines your brain thinks are most important and look best)
I basically zoom back out a billion times a second to see how it's turning out
I also like to hide the sketch layer to see the lines even clearer every once in a while
THEN YA JUST KEEP AT IT
-----------------------------------------------
I'll be adding the final image to this once I'm doneee, but until then, I hope this is helpful!
Don't be afraid to rotate your canvas a bit if you're having trouble with certain angles or trying to do horizontal lines. I find that it's easier for me to control my hand when I'm dragging it down rather than across the page.
Don't be afraid to mess around with the size of your pen/marker. There's no secret pen size that makes your art look amazing, you just have to dick around a bit to find what feels best. You can use the [ and ] keys on your keyboard to change this quickly.
When you're using SAI, you can also use the scroll on your mouse to zoom in and out faster.
Don't be afraid to line in dark/medium grey or even darker colours. You can set the lines layer on multiply to make it stand out against your base colour, but the fact that the lines aren't pure black can make your art appear less harsh
TAPER YOUR LINES! Abrupt ends on lines looks harsh as well. If you're lining with a mouse, you can erase the ends to taper them. If you're using a tablet, just don't press as hard when you get to the end of a line
I use a wacom graphire4 tablet in case anyone is wondering! If you have any other questions, please ask and I'll try to answer them. And if there are any other tutorials you guys would like me to make for you, go ahead and request 'em! :heart:
this is just how I line things and I hope it was sort of helpful, though I don't think it was LOL
it really just helps to experiment and practice a lot. you'll find your own specific way to do it eventually <3
