QnA Podcast SessionHey guys,QnA Podcast Session3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The VAs and myself are mighty busy this week, so there won't be any podcasting this evening. However, due to the drastic timezone differences having any sort of livestream would be impossible, as our only convenient times are midnight in the States, the early a.m. in Europe/UK, and just after noon for me.
As such, we'll only be able to answer questions you guys post here, in the Comments section of this journal, and then upload it as another vlog. We'll probably only be able to get around to another podcast next weekend, so you have a good while to ask us anything.
Bear in mind we won't repeat questions, and we probably won't be able to get through them all, but if there's anything you want to ask the VAs or even myself about Honour Amongst Thieves, the process, how they got the voices, the color of their socks, anything at all ... then now's the time to ask.
I will update you all with the podcast, whenever we do get around to it. You will be able to find it in the HAT
If you are considering going into the industry....If you are an artist or want to be one, especially if you want to get into the VFX industry, you should watch this:If you are considering going into the industry....2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It touches on a few things I feel are important to understand as an artist and even as consumers of art:
1.) Art is not an exact science. It can be difficult to put a price tag on it, let alone the often very complicated processes of making it.
2.) Computers are tools that facilitate our work but they DO NOT do the work for us.
3.) Don't get into this industry for the money. If you go into this line of work, you do it because you love it. If someone happens to get lucky or has a really great idea and he/she hits it big, GREAT! Good for him/her. But don't go in expecting that to happen to you. Chances are it won't. If you are lucky, you will find a nice middleclass job you can support yourself and your family on for a while...... until....
4.) Unfortunately, a lot of employers see artists as disposable. When they no longer need you, they will kick you to the curb an
May the Fourth/Revenge of the FifthSo I missed May 4th but Happy Follow-Up-To-Star-Wars-Day everybody.May the Fourth/Revenge of the Fifth2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I had stuff I wanted to draw to commemorate this day as usual, but after breakneck-animating for weeks and losing sleep over my finals, I'm just not in the mood to exert myself over drawings right now. I've spent all weekend thus far sleeping in, running Star Wars marathons, and playing on my SWTOR toons. All of them.
In the meantime I guess have these two new roleplay logs instead:

I'll be spending Christmas and New Years with :icongellyh: assuming my plane doesn't crash and burn. Trust me to go flying on December the 21st ... so I won't be very active here, if at all. Merry Christmas to all those who celebrate it, and a Happy New Year. See you in 2013!
My Animation Class Is BrillSo much fun today. Seriously. Almost no work done, but that goes without saying when you share your birthday with your animation professor and the entire class is preparing a surprise party. My Animation Class Is Brill3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Over the weekend several of us from both the 2D and 3D classes drew our own interpretations of our professor, Chris, and we compiled them into a Happy Birthday collage as part of his birthday surprise. We came in early to school to have it printed from a shop nearby and hung it on his office door, and also projected a digital image onto the far wall during the party. Unfortunately for my classmates I arrived my usual twenty minutes before ten a.m. today, which meant the decorating of the animation room with balloons and colored crete paper wasn't going to be a surprise for me.
In fact we spent all morning taping up balloons, a 'Happy Birthday' sign, and drawing goofy pictures on the glass doors with whiteboard markers ... only to find out later that our professor might not swing by ou
About My School?I frequently get questions about LASALLE College of the Arts, where I study. Unfortunately I don't have time to go into tremendous detail when answering them, as much as I'd like to explain more what it's like. Was it a Good or a Bad Dream?Good ... because it didn't get to finish. Was it a Good or a Bad Dream?4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Unfortunately to my friends who enjoy reading about my crack-pot dreams and ravings I can only remember fragments of this one, so it's not very exciting. However, what I do remember, is that I was in it, my boyfriend EsRat was in it, a nameless boy and girl I didn't recognize, some cranky old shop clerk I didn't recognize, Arnold Swarchenegger, and Jareth from Labyrinth were in it. More than that we were in a dense Amazonian jungle somewhere and we had maybe half-a-dozen Predators hot on our heels. Oddly enough, we weren't running madly crying and screaming through the trees to get away, nor were we even armed. Instead Arnold drove us around in a bigass jeep while I sat in the passenger's seat discussing Predator tactics with him. Once we figured out the most Hollywood-cinematic way they'd come at us, the Predators would execute that exact move with a slow-mo finisher somewhere else in the forest ... and then die.

On the subject of Copyrights and ContentsI'd like to take this moment to address a very important issue within the art community, and this is Copy Rights. On the subject of Copyrights and Contents3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Recently I had had a situation with a client that reminded me that both parties- the client AND the artist- have specific rights that need to be addressed at the time of creating a design and/or illustration. Both parties need to have a CLEAR understanding of their rights, and ask any and as many questions until they feel as if they have the right information. Assumption and dishonesty are not good business foundations, let alone become legal liability in the long run. Lying on any side is the most common action that leads to bigger situations that at time, will be dealt with legally.
From here on in, the "Client" is the commissioner, and the "Artist" is the person in charge of design, illustration, and/or color.
1) The difference between "content" and "product/property".
When someone commissions you for a design, you have many different types of ownership. The most common
Making Changes ...First of all, I want to say a huge THANK YOU for all of the birthday wishes. I never expected to receive any, especially after being gone for so long, and never even thought to check back here until a friend told me that I ought to see what was going on. So thank you all, and it was really heartwarming to read.Making Changes ...1 week ago in Personal More Like This
It's hard to believe it's been two years since I was last here, but I was transitioning from college to working full-time, and maintaining an online presence just wasn't working for me. I am still struggling to find a good balance between work, play, and personal projects, but I am finally in a comfortable enough position to get my art websites back up and on track. It's about damn time, I think. So time permitting I plan on making some big changes around here.
For those who miss my old stuff: I will be taking my drawings out of storage and sorting them into an "Archives" folder. You will be able to view all of my old fanart and comics, but keep in mind m
Pirates Beat Ninjas - Louis Goes to Con!Greetings, watchers!Pirates Beat Ninjas - Louis Goes to Con!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Our very own :iconredeaddie: will be attending the San Japan Convention this August - San Antonio's Major Anime Convention - and will be hosting a panel on pirate culture and costume. She will be dressed to kill - as Louis Despatis.
The convention runs from August 16-18th. The panel is on Saturday (Aug 17th) at 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. You can find more information on her event here: http://www.san-japan.org/forum/showthread.php?1730-Pirates-Beat-Ninjas-Beginners-to-Pirate-Cosplay
As well as the panel, she will be appearing as Louis for the Cosplay Catwalk, the Masquerade Ball, and even hosting the Dating Game Panel on the same day. I've long admired RedeadDie's costuymes, especially her work as Jareth in the past, and am super excited to see her finished work on Louis. Unfortunately, being in S
SW:tOR TUMBLR ACCOUNT!! Head on over!Hey guys and girls!SW:tOR TUMBLR ACCOUNT!! Head on over!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
At long last, I've finally made a Tumblr account specifically for Star Wars: The Old Republic and ALL SWtOR-related sketches, doodles, and roleplay logs. All my roleplay logs will henceforth be uploaded there, so if you're a fan of following my characters' stories then that's the place to go from now on.
For those of you who missed the first link, here it is again: http://askvallaz.tumblr.com/
I'm still stumbling my way around the confusing site (seriously, it should be called Stumblr, not Tumblr ...) so following people or reblogging and all that stuff can wait for now. I also had some issues with HTML glitches so some of the writing logs have nice gaps between paragraphs, while others are ugly and clumped together. I'm sorry, but there doesn't seem to be anything I can do about it. Additionally, if any of the links on the sidebar are broken for the time being, it's

Plugging the VAsHello all,Plugging the VAs2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Things are still incredibly busy and hectic over here, in light of which I don't have much time to dedicate towards Honour Amongst Thieves at the moment. Rest assured, we haven't seen the last of the project and the characters around here, but in the meantime, I thought I might tide you over with some "goodies". Each of the characters' VAs are very talented in their own ways, and I thought I'd plug some of their websites for those of you interested in what they do when they're not cussing at pirates or berating heathens.

What Doesn't Kill YouWell, howdy, guys! What Doesn't Kill You2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Before I get to my update on how surgery went, I got to make an enormously futile attempt to thank you all for your incredible collective wave of stories, thoughts, and well-wishes on my previous post. I have so many people saying they believe in me I am now a minor deity. I shouldn't be surprised statistically, but I am aghast regardless at how many of you have immediate family and friends who've had cancer or indeed have had it yourselves. As I say, I've gotten off easy here, and my heart goes out to everybody that's had to grapple with far more serious cases, and especially to those who've lost dear ones. YOU are the brave sons n' daughters of beeches, you guys all blow my mind wide open. I'll tell you I was doing pretty good until about halfway through your messages, and then there was some sniffling. Hell's bells, guys, that was something. Thank you for every letter.

Mutiple Thefts of deviantART Stock Models: UpdatedCurrent Update, Feb 9: It seems that the artworks created with the DA stock models have been taken down from all sites. This is good news! I hope the artist will be in touch with the models they have used. It seems possible through what I've heard from these models in their research that this artist may have found these images on a 'free stock' site. Please be aware of any site that is set up with a huge variety of fabulous, high quality images for commercial use, for free. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.Mutiple Thefts of deviantART Stock Models: Updated3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
An Italian artist has been using stock images from DA's portrait models as the source of her professional work without notifying the models or crediting them. In most cases, these models do not allow commercial use of their stock without permission.
Here is a list of models discovered to have been used so far.
