My entry for the Scott Pilgrim contest. I deviated from the film and opted for the graphic novel style instead, making a mock up of the next volume in continuing onto an 8th Evil Ex.
My character's name is Adam Edelwine (right), Ramona's only long-standing friend from back in high school. He was her unofficial boyfriend, the "Ex that Never Was." Through all of the events that brought Ramona to where she is at the end of the film/novel, Adam was the friend that would always catch her after every Ex, until she disappeared after Gideon. It took him a while, but Adam at finds Ramona once again, who is now together with Scott Pilgrim.
Adam reaches breaking point. Having spent so much time spent over her in their give-and-take relationship, he comes to challenge Scott and Ramona's love in hopes of finally being recognized by her as more than "just a friend."
Character Bio - Adam Edelwine - name means "Man" and "Noble Friend"
Strength: + "The Power of Understanding" + "The Power of Love (Unrequited)" + Determination
Darian McGinnis dated Ramona Flowers way back in the day. A skinny hipster boy Ramona found interesting. However he was unsure about himself at the time he was dating Ramona... never knowing which side of the fence he sat on. He had his revelation after Ramona got bored with him and just up and vanished one day. Ramona helped him along to the realization that he liked men way more than women. After that it was history. He became more confident and sassy and the world was his playground. He developed his power of charm and became quite good at it. Most men melted like butter in his hands. Later on, he had gotten a hold of Gideon and joined the league of evil ex's. Darian signed up, mainly for the hopes of getting some of the sexy men that Ramona may have either dumped or was currently with. He also loves to be catty and a part of him really just wants to steal her man away from her just to get even with her for walking out on him all those years ago.
The never before seen 8th Evil Ex of Ramona Flowers, Victor Pidgeon!
Name: Victor Pidgeon The Assassin Drummer Age: 25 Rating: M for Murderous Powers: Mad Drumming skills and the ability to hurl drumsticks at high velocity and deadly accuracy. He gets especially mad when teased about his last name.
So basically when I found out about this contest, I instantly began brainstorming possible evil exes. I came up with 3 total, so Victor here is only 1 of 3. I envisioned this evil ex as a drummer (of a band called Pac-Manhattan) since there is an obvious theme with bands (and video games) in the series. There were just so many bassist and guitar playing characters. Not to mention all of the drummers were girls. I also liked the idea that his hair would be a radical color like Ramona's. I also thought it would be kind of cool to have a drumstick sticking behind his ear and out of his pockets because he uses his drumsticks like throwing knives. How awesome is that?! His last name is Pidgeon but people tease him about it though he'll argue that his name has a "d" in it. I just really had a lot of fun coming up with this guy. C:
Mike Mirglip is Ramona Flower's dad's neighbor. He and Ramona met between the time she left Scott and the Scott/Gideon fight. Ramona befriended him because he reminds her a lot about Scott. They look similar. EVEN HIS LAST NAME IS A CREEPY COINCIDENCE! But that's about it though. Personality-wise, he is the opposite. Shy, low self-esteem, weird around girls. In those months she hung out with Mike, she told him about everything. Scott, the League of Evil Exes and her troubles. Mike listened every time and tried to give useful input. Ramona valued his advice.
While he is her 8th evil ex, he never really 'dated' her. He just believes this in his head. He confirmed it after they had a "heart-to-heart" talk and she gave him a thank you kiss on the forehead.
Ramona didn't even deny it when Mike's mom asked if his "little girlfriend" was staying for dinner. (Ramona was actually trying on Mike's noise cancelling headphones at the time)
Ramona told him of how she felt bad leaving Scott and not have any closure. He told her to go seek closure with Scott and move on. (So she can be with him.) Ramona's head started to glow as Mike's words sink in. As she began to ride with the glow and fade away, Mike's mom asked if his "little girlfriend" was staying for dinner. Ramona exclaimed "Huh? I'm not your girlfriend." and with that she disappeared.
Mike was devastated to hear this. Had he just been 'dumped?' In his depressed state, he scoured the depths of Craigslist. After being dissatisfied with everything he's finding, he becomes curious. He types in "Ramona" in search and the first link that shows up is a post searching for any of Ramona's exes looking to get together to control her love life. He replies to the ad, and several minutes later he gets an automated reply from Gideon Graves explaining the league but is no longer accepting exes as they have already begun on their new target: Scott Pilgrim. Mike realizes Ramona is probably going to reconcile with Scott. He declares himself the 8th evil ex and vows revenge against Scott.
His secret power is: the power of the internet! He has his own personal army called Anonymous made up of ...anonymous people to do his bidding. (Not really, they only agreed to help him get Ramona back. They're suckers for helping hopeless romantics) Mike uses his internet skills (google) to find Scott's residence.
It's going to take some time to get to Scott as Mike is only 15 but he'll figure it out. And in the meantime he'll send out his troops that live in Toronto to give Scott an unpleasant experience until then.
Soooo... The contest rules, unless I misread them several times, said that multiple entries can be submitted, which is good, because I really wanted to do a strawberries and cream version as well. I simply LOVE the Strawberries and Cream. This picture is supposed to illustrate how the two flavours compliment each other. The cream is smooth and calming like the clouds in the sky, while the strawberry is zingy and explosive like the rushing waves of the ocean. Both great flavours alone, but together can bring out the sunshine on my rainy day. <3 Happiness: Pretty much everything pictured in this drawing makes me happy. I've always been happiest near water, particularly by the ocean. Something about the smell of the water and the sound of the waves just brings such peace and contentment to me. Having moved inland, I don't get much of that anymore, but I can still grow strawberries in my garden and that makes me happy. :']
This is The Ripper. She catches you, tares your seams apart and either sews you onto a monster that needs some cover or sews you onto her own collection of cloth. So she's kinda a crazy skinner for you and a medic for monsters.
This is the version with all of the glow that I think people will enjoy more than I do o.x Don't get me wrong, I like it, I just... I dunno really o.x I'm going to open critiques on this one because I think the reason I don't like it is because I'm missing some insanely obvious "glow" knowledge.
*edit* FYI: I designed her before I saw the movie 9. I wasn't aware that there was already a monster that kinda sewed stuff up. I just saw shots of it going "SSSSSSSSSSSSS" in the previews. However, I feel that The Ripper and that snake thing are different enough, because: -it was a snake. -it had a freaky ass lure thing. -it was not humanoid.
*2nd edit* I have been told by a few people that she also reminds them of Baby Face from Toy Story. As with the snake monster, I can see the resemblance, but any similarities are coincidence. I designed this monster as she is because: -I wanted to use a doll face to add to the creepiness. This movie was all about how humanity doomed itself with greed, the innocence and pure aspects of humanity were destroyed along with the bad. I think a broken doll is great at representing that. I also just really like dolls. -She needed to look fast and lithe like the monsters in the movie, so that she fit with the universe. I mean, this is a contest about creating monsters that would fit in that story. So a skinny spider type body would work. -I wanted to have her purpose center around the cloth, so that she could have some sort of ballet dress. Just to play up the doll aspect.
