My entry for the devianht art contest:
One panda, one light, one pie
-plans gone wrong

I must admit this was a tough task to somehow fuse these elements into one picture, make it look good and somehow hit the "plans gone wrong" theme.
Only thing I knew from the beginning was that I wont go with the idea of a panda digging a tunnel and beeing caught stealing cake, beacause it's just too overused already.
Instead I decided for a panda on a diet, whose ambicious plans get crossed by his loving family sending cake.
Poor panda...You can do it !

I dont think I need to link the stock photos used for this one, since it's quite obvious.

The body on the wallpaper gave me a hard time.
I had preferred just buying one picture from fotolia, but since their credit system doesnt allow me to buy just one credit, I had to get me references and stuff to draw it myself. -.-

By amazing luck, just before submitting this I realised that there was another Exotika competition and there had to be an Ice-theme this time. I was about to submit it as an ordinary landscape but thought it would be fun to enter anyway.

Either way I was going to mention that This can be seen in a variety of ways, It could be fantasy, It could be science fiction-maybe a freak climate change is involved. It may be considered surreal, almost dreamlike-You wouldn't see snow covered coconut trees in real life. It could also have an element of humour, like something You would see on an article about global climate change. And just to add more confusion, some might see tropical plants growing on a frozen ice cap and others may see the tropics of the equator being dumped under snow.
I also wanted to do something different by making a cold world but using warm colours, rather than the traditional blues and whites.

Digital painting for the Stylenoir Monarchy contest.

I'm really pleased with how this one turned out, let me know what you think!
I tried not to use any references, the only one used was while sketching out the skull teeth :)

Name derived from a novel I just love, Daughter of Smoke and bone. I was stuck for a name, and it kind of just fits well:) Also, the blue hair :D

Goes without saying, but this one done digitally, hence it is entering the digital portion of the contest :)

My second entry into the Exotika contest, like I mentioned in My first entry, there is bound to be artworks more realistic than this but I hope all viewers will be won over by the creativity.

I am surprised I didn't do anything like this a long time ago because I really love bonsai trees and the trees here are stunted and growing on nothing more than solid rock. It was trees like this that inspired the very first bonsai trees in China ( not Japan, it was introduced to Japan later where it came even more popular ). The trees here are all based on real trees which are all of Asian origin ( to fit the theme ) and are some of the most classic and common types of bonsai grown today. The top tree is a Japanese black pine, The red tree is a Japanese maple, The middle tree is a Trident maple, the bottom-left tree is a Chinese juniper and the flowering tree is an Azalea.

Well, it was a long comment but thanks for taking the time to read. Hope You like it.

this is a illo i did for Halloween as part of the d.a. contest "scary movie". I choose hellraiser and pinhead just cause i figured he would be fun to do and also as a change up from the cute illos I have been doing for other Halloween projects.

First idea that popped into my head. Bell bottoms, polyester shirt, and platform boots! A modern, 70s Barnabas.

Gah! I'm a semi-finalist!

With the contest extended, I thought I'd try and make another environment for *wewy's contest. This time, less realistic and more fantasy-like ( phew, just made it in too )....

Glitter Grotto is a medium sized city which was originally a mining town, but evolved into a tourist attraction. Built around the biggest crystal inside what is actually a colossal geode rather than a true cave, this city is nested where it can be well-lit from the light coming from the crystal, as well as feeding most of its power-needs from the energy it radiates. Its light gives off a beautiful sight as it refracts through the glassy bodies of millions of other huge gems scattered all over the rock walls, each appearing as a faint purple flash from such a distance.

And as you can imagine, if this were a stage in a game, you would be sure to run into some very interesting characters ( and enemies ) in this dark, mysterious world

With a little bit of photo-manipulation and a lot of digital painting, Barnabas Collins is now ready for his close-up. :)

EDIT: in case anyone is interested in what my process was like, here is a run-down of it:

-First I made a list of things that I want going on in my image.
-Then I made sketches of different poses and directions I could have the character go in and made tiny value thumbnails of the whole composition in pencil. [and picked which I liked best]
-I took the two reference images I needed from the asset pack into PhotoshopCS5, then liquified, warped, and re-painted certain areas until they matched my sketches.
-Converted everything into black and white.
-Used various Photoshop brushes and painted everything on new separated layers for easier access and editing. [also referred back to the ref of J.Depp to make sure there was a likeness, as well as referred to myself in various lighting conditions to get things consistent]---This is the part that took the longest, I made such tiny strokes!
-Went through various background and border ideas, until I settled with this one.
-And lastly colored! Made a new layer and set it to color. Played around until it was where I wanted, and Bam! Finished~
