7 steps for taking better photos-beginner's guideHello and welcome to my little guide on how to make better photos*.7 steps for taking better photos-beginner's guide2 years ago in Personal More Like This
*Photos that are technically correct; with little grain, right exposure, right composition, etc.
So, some of you have probably gotten a new camera during the holidays and it's so shiny and look at all the details, is that a pore on my face, and everything is great, but what are all these numbers and letters on my screen, let's just use auto mode. And then it all begins. The depression. The photos lack something... That sparkle of life, you know. You ask why? Is this the way of god trying to tell me that I have no talents and that I wasted my money?
You just need a bit of guidance, that's all. Here are some tips for beginners and those who might need it.
It's safe now to turn off auto mode.
What are you saying?! These are too complicated to understand, why should I?
You remember that thing that lacks? That thing is - you, your touch. All the numbers seem hard, but

I found someone that made my life colorful again. Someone that makes me want to live my life happily. We are a couple for two months now, but it already feels like years when we talk to each other. It's like I have found a soulmate. A person I can always relate to and a person always being there for me. With him, I feel like a princess, and like a little star.
I love you, Sascha.

This week the general theme of the article is Infrared Photography. You may know it well for its vision into a dream like world where the trees appear to be fluffy candyfloss and the grass is blue or Orange...Infrared is not as far away from achievable as you might think. This week some wonderful Deviants have shared their infrared views and art to try and help us understand the technique a little better. I rather thought it was time that the infrared community on deviantART had a bit more recognition too!

Tips for the creative photographer #2I´m by no means saying I am any expert, but I hope some of this might prove beneficial.Tips for the creative photographer #22 years ago in Personal More Like This
Screw the rules
It is very good to know and be aware of composition, correct exposure, to compensate or not to, but it does sometimes mess with your own creative approach.
The camera and lens is plastic, metal and glass and just tools for you to use, they should be treated as such.
A good thing is to get that perfectly exposed and composed shot out of the way and then just flip to a new page.
Try for instance to take a picture of something with the sun behind it and completely blow the whites out leaving the subject correctly exposed without the use of a flash, it might just be the shot you choose instead of the "correct" one.
Absolutely no harm in using other tools than just the camera and a tripod, people have gotten cover shots of eagles diving in the water for food the photographer has brought and thrown there as bait.
Spray some water on a flower on a sunny day, who ha

Photography Troubleshooting: Dull Images on dA?After a long pause in which nobody seemed to have very many questions, we've got a very intriguing one which came up during the People & Portraits projecteducate week and it's something that has always played on my mind, and no doubt on yours too. Once again sine-out has provided a fantastic answer, so hopefully that will help somewhat in clearing this issue up. Have a question? Drop it on this article and we'll work on an answer!Photography Troubleshooting: Dull Images on dA?3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
"It seems like colorful pictures made in adobe look good, then after
they have been uploaded on deviantART... the color is more dead.. not so
alive..is this an issue?" ~ kayjensen
"Hi kayjensen, the issue your describing is most likely a colour profile issue. Colour profiles essentially describe how each colour is represented and there are different profiles for different purpose but mostly for getting accurate colour out of a printer or a screen.
By default the internet works with and assumes that every

Within the mighty village of dAmn, a war is brewing -- a war to appease the Great Fella God!
Many in the past have sought ways to please this angry beast, and many have failed. These tales of great battle and loss are still whispered around the campfires of #devart: DaPineapple's valiant attempts to offer kingmancheng as a virgin sacrifice, or fourteenthstar's struggles to serenade Fella with her dulcet Scottish tones .. but nothing could be found to please the Great Fella God, not even a scantily clad itsfrits.
But now the tides are turning and the war is changing!
The mighty warrior Tachy-on along with the valiant troops of Community Volunteers have found a way to please Fella, and now the tribes of dAmn are competing for Fella's blessing -- and so can you!
You can help gain favor to you and your tribe by luring and trapping deviants into the great village of dAmn -- but that is not enough to please the Great Fe
PE Photomanip: Let there be LIGHT!Light in PhotomanipulationPE Photomanip: Let there be LIGHT!3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Getting your light right when creating a photomanipulation sounds easy . . . until you sit down to try to do it! There are seemingly endless things to keep in mind: where the light source is, the intensity of the light, how pieces of your manipulation need to be composed so that they line up with the direction of the light in the piece, whether there could be multiple light sources, what color the light will be. . . .
And the goal for light in your manipulation is for the light to be consistent throughout so that it is telling a story. No pressure! It is not an overstatement to say that light will make or break your manipulation; I have declined many DD suggestions because of bad lighting.
Light can help you tell a story and is critical to your deviation. It adds emphasis, adds depth, contributes to realism, and draws the viewer's attention to where you want it to be

The Photography Galleries: Why and How to SuggestSo many of my watchers and other members of the community suggest fantastic pieces for Daily Deviations every week. But I need more. I need to be more specific about my rules now too, so that you understand what I do and do not look for. But above all that, it's time to get You more exposure. Think you have an awesome photograph in your gallery? Why not consider self suggesting right now. I actively encourage it. If you send me your own work I will greet you with pompoms and latex free balloons. Srsly. Basking in the glory of finally getting recognised for your hard efforts and photographic skill is pretty awesome and at the start of this week I took the opportunity to enjoy georgewjohnson's after he got published in a UK Photography Magazine. It's really nice when something like that happens and the knowledge that across the country - and because of deviantART and other networks - across the world, people are looking at your work. And if you're me, smiling! I once stumbled across lauren-rabbit's work in Black and White Photography Magazine and was truly proud that somebody I had found here on deviantART was here in my mag! So have you been published? Has your work received any recognition that makes you proud? What are your tips to getting out there and having your work showcased?
