Back to Basics Photography - Understanding RawdSLR cameras and most bridge cameras have the option to shoot in raw, but what exactly is it and what are the benefits? Let me attempt to explain.Back to Basics Photography - Understanding Raw3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
A camera raw file contains all the data that is captured when the shutter button is pressed whereas a JPEG is compressed and a lot of the data is lost. They are often called digital negatives as they serve the same purpose as the negatives in film photography; they are not ready to be used as the final image, but hold all the information and data needed to produce one. This all means that you are left with a higher image quality which also allows you to have more control and manipulate more parameters than a JPEG. All of the metadata is also still in tact, meaning that the original state can always be referred back to if needed.
So, surely you want to see the difference, right? Well you're in luck.

What is street photography?
Ha! You didn't read my previous journals, did you?
Street photography is "un-posed, un-staged photography which captures, explores or questions contemporary society and the relationships between individuals and their surroundings".
Street photography is an eye focused on the ordinary, on the every day life. Its interest is in capturing every day moments and situations that filtered through the sensitivity, vision, personality of the photographer are able to pass emotions and sensations to the viewer.
Moments can be of every kind: ironic, sad, melancholic, surreal, wry, tender, beautiful, poetic, destabilizing, documentary. They all show aspects of life.
You can read my take on it here: Street, children, is a state of mind

Ten Tips for Nature PhotographersThis article came about after a deviant specifically requested that we write ten clear, simple tips for Photographing Nature. Troubleshooting articles and information can be very useful, but sometimes breaking it down into manageable memorable chunks is so much easier. So without further ado please enjoy our Ten Tips for Nature Photographers!Ten Tips for Nature Photographers2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
1) Get into your environment
Yes, it's rhubarb. To be a true photographer, you must be at one with rhubarb.
When we talk about photographing Nature, we don't necessarily mean wide expansive rolling landscapes. Whilst they contain any number of elements that are nature focused and made up from natural resources - Nature Photography is about getting into your environment and getting up close and personal with these elements. So think of it like you are Photographing the components that make up that beautiful lan

Hello! It's C-91 here and, after people asking me tips on how to make flowers with Apophysis, I decided to write this introduction guide for the Fractal Week. There might be more in future.
Live with it: crafting flowers with Apophysis isn't the most original thing ever, but at least we can try to approach to the technique in another way and try to make them different from the multitude of results that can be found here on DeviantArt.
First of all, check the two blooms tutorials by lindelokse, which are the starting point for this technique:
Before we start...
Just so you know, 2D flowers are generally more versatile and suitable for crazy experiments than 3D ones. You can use more variations and plugins on 2D flowers without messing the shape up (and they will still be as spectacular as 3D flowers).
Get your Art some Attention on deviantARTFive basic tips to get your Art some Attention, Appreciation & Audience on deviantARTGet your Art some Attention on deviantART4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Here's some tips that may not get you a consistent spot on the front page right away, but that will definitely help getting some watchers and friends, whether you already have some, or not.
First, let me make clear that this is only about 'good' attention – if you just want, say, a certain pageview count, there are probably better ways. This article is for those who would like some people to take them serious as an artist and to actively watch them.
Also note that you needn't follow all of the tips below, but it's recommendable to follow at least 3 of them. Just one or two will not usually get you very far.
So here we go! :iconeagerpee:
Submit art regularly.
Try to find a balance between quality and quantity. Personally I think it's best to submit one or a couple of dev

I was just all... "HECK YES!! FROST IS GONNA BE IN MY TOWN, AWWWWWYEEEEEEAAAAHH."
For those who haven't seen already, I am back in school. What does this mean? Well, it means that Everlasting Snow chapters are probably going to be slow in coming. I'm predicting that that won't happen and I'll still get one or two out a day because I'm a master procrastinator. That, and we're so close to the end of the fiction, so it's kind of that "you're in the home stretch" kind of feeling.
Aah, yeah. That's right. It's ending. Coming to a close. I know, I know, it's sad for me too. If it weren't for the workload that I already have from school, I wouldn't know what to do after it's over. I know that I'm really going to miss it though...all the comments and stuffs. BUT IT'S NOT OVER YET, SO WHAT AM I SAYING.
No, I'm not planning on doing a sequel. I'll probably write another story once school is out,
Basics of Colour - for Ultra FractalLooking at parameters, both from DA and Ultra Fractal Mailing list I have noticed a lack of understanding as to how colours interact. So I have decided to write a few helpful hints.Basics of Colour - for Ultra Fractal2 years ago in Personal More Like This
1) The Colour Wheel - http://www.colormatters.com/color-and-design/basic-color-theory
All colours can be made from just three. Blue, Red and Yellow - for instance if you mix Blue and Red you get Purple, Red and Yellow make orange etc. Blue Red and Yellow are called primaries. Purple, Green and Orange are called Secondaries and Tertiaries are combinations of two of these
Basics of Colour - The Colour Wheel (just click on thumbnail for parameter file)
2) RGB v CYMK
RGB - Red Green and Blue relates to the colours that are mixed by an imaging device (TV screen, Monitor, Digital Camera) to produce an image
CYMK- Cyan (Blue) Magenta (Red) Yellow and Black refers to the colours that a printer's inks

Why, you ask?
Because the official dA Twitter featured my fanfic!
That's right, they tweeted about Everlasting Snow, the 50th chapter!
Here's a direct link to the tweet: https://twitter.com/dA_fanart/status/299357197333327874
Just thought I'd share that with all of you. I'm freaking out, personally. I don't mean to be braggy or mean or anything. I'm just so honored. I'm seriously sitting here crying happy tears. Never in my wildest dreams...
And you know what? It's all of YOU that made this possible. I bow to you. Thank you so much for reading and all that you do. I write for the sake of writing, to perhaps add to the world of literature and to make something that people will enjoy, and it seems as though I have been successful thus far. And I have you to thank. So, once again, thank you. I LOVE YOU. :iconletmehugyouplz:

Gentle SnowfallAll right. Awesome story time.Gentle Snowfall3 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's been incredibly windy for the past couple of days (it doesn't ever snow, though ). While I was visiting my old house, I took my dog out for a walk up the hill to do his business. It was nighttime. First off, I nearly tripped and fell over what sounded and felt like a long thin tree branch. I looked back and saw nothing. Continuing onward, the wind was blowing pretty hard. It was brisk and exceptionally cold. I began to talk to Jack, knowing that he was behind all of this (as I usually do when a sudden cold wind blows or something along those lines...yeah, I talk to Jack a lot x3). The moment I uttered, "Jack Frost, it's you there, isn't it?" the wind blew so hard that I almost fell over. My dog perked his ears up, but soon went back to doing his own thing. I continued talking to Jack. Then, out of nowhere, my dog starts staring at something up the hill. He's not one to bark unless he knows it's someone/thing dangerous or threatening. Curious but ex

The exact bubble size to fill a hypertile can be calculated exactly, or you can just change the amount of bubble until it fits.

How to : Find Art ThievesPlease this journal, so that a lot of people can read it.How to : Find Art Thieves3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
I noticed that a lot of people don't know how to search for their photos on the internet, so here is a short tutorial. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do about art thieves, but i still think it is important to look out for them.
1. visit Google.com
2. Go to the page of the photo you want to search and click "show image"
3. Copy the Link and paste it into google.
4. This page should open, click "search by image".
5. Now you can browse trough the results.
6. The less results the happier you should be.
EDIT : You can also use websites like : tineye.com and iqdb.com
This was pointed out to me by some people, personally i have no experience with them, but i am sure that they work too.

This article is an updated translation from the German Magazine Kwerfeldein from the 20th August 2011.
A few years ago, I found some very strange photos on DeviantArt which looked totally different from the usual images. Incidentally, they were popular, achieved good reviews and interesting comments. I wanted to know more...I asked gilad and MichaelMagin for some advice and began to experiment with the technique myself. I started out with great enthusiasm and my initial results were pleasing. It turned out that this extraordinary photographic technique is actually very easy to achieve!

My deviantART StoryMy deviantART Story1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
This was my very first DA submission I had seen a wallpaper very similar so I used it as my inspiration to do a digital painting in PS.
I was new to the digital Art scene and had basic PS experience, due to a disability I could no longer use my Pencils to hand sketch which was always my favorite medium.
So I thought I would give digital Art a go and chose to make use of PS, that was a little over 1 year ago.
So I began browsing DA and getting familiar with things and checking out the different styles of Art.
That is when I came across this beautiful piece by my Friend Xzendor7, I was blown away!
I was really curious as to how this was done, and Rolando always gives a very detailed description of his process.
This is how I came to know about Fractals and Fractal Art and also what makes a "Fractal Composition" , it was love at first sight so to speak

Ah, Now That...that was fun.Ah, Now That...3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Two months and eight days, 64 chapters plus an epilogue, 134 single-spaced typewritten pages, 74478 words and countless hours later, Everlasting Snow has finally come to a close.
And, to tell you the truth, I have no idea where to start.
Let's start just over a couple months ago, with a girl, a laptop, and a movie. One that changed her life. For the better. One that connected with her on such a deep level that no amount of writing or creating could get it out of her system, and never will. One that revived her love of writing, something she hadn't done in years because it never gained any recognition, she never felt it was good enough, and life events just left her feeling so trampled upon, further deterring her from putting the pen to the paper.
And so, never before so inspired and just recently discovering the world of fan fiction, she opened her laptop, brought up Microsoft Word, and began to write, not helping but feeling that a certain winter spirit (th
More about Blooms !!!As you have noticed I got some Blooms going recently and they become very very popular So it happens I'm in a spring mood and feel like being showered with flowers - time to shed the heavy skin clothing into light and fragrant. Got amazing comments on the blooms as well - from dreamy, in my dreams full of magic to I wish they grew in my garden, can you make some prints and even could you make the Blooms into 3d-sculpturesMore about Blooms !!!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
All ideas and suggestions are very welcome - on short time notice I did added some prints & also a brand new calendar (with Blooms only). You can always add it to your wish list (so you don't forget the blooms when Christmas comes) or you can get it even right now, still 10 solid months left, and afterwards you can get the singular month pages to use as prints (I do that - good price for 12 artworks).

How to make your uploads StrongerHow to make your uploads StrongerHow to make your uploads Stronger6 years ago in Art Features More Like This
This is a guide to making your uploads more individual and taken more seriously.
Not a absolute answer guide, just some suggestions.
* Try not to upload 10 images in a row, make sure you only upload 1-2 each day.
People need time to look through their center and if you upload to much, they are most likely to jump over a few of them.
The other thing is that it might seem to people that you just snapshot and upload right away, even though you might used a lot of time on it.
*What title should i give my image? Make sure you give a title you think suits the image, a image with a strong title makes the artwork
itself better and change the way people see the theme and concept.
My suggestion is that you think about the feeling you had when you worked on the image, or the feeling you want the image to show.
Let`s say you worked on a painting that reminded you about your childhood. You there have many titles; Childhood

What, you ask?
My "Art of Rise of the Guardians" book!!!! IT CAME A DAY EARLY. AWESOME SURPRISE. It has a foreword by Alec Baldwin, a preface by NONE OTHER THAN WILLIAM JOYCE HIMSELF, and is written by Ramin Zahen.
OHMYGOODNESS. IT'S AWESOME.
It had chapters on each of the characters and their lairs!! AND THERE'S AN ENTIRE. FRIGGIN. SECTION. ON. JACK.
Anyway, I'm writing Chapter 28 right now and should have it up! After that, I'm going to continue fangirling hard as I read through this entire 155-page book.
And then probably write some more. Because I'm going to be inspired.
I'll be sure to end up including some findings that this art book will provide in my writing so it stays accurate!
Thanks, and sorry about the spam.
SOMEONE PINCH ME, I MUST BE DREAMING.
Oh, and I'm going to go see the movie again for the seventh time tomorrow. Fangirli
