Vanilla sugar cookies with Nesquik Strawberry Milkshake icing and various sprinkles. For Valentines Day to show my love for my family, friends and all of you on DA
I always use the recipe from the BBC for making cookies that I will be cutting out shapes with at it keeps the shape perfectly while baking [link] it makes a lot of cookie dough, so what I don't use I just freeze for another day.
The icing is icing sugar (powdered/confectioners sugar) milkshake powder and just enough water to make a paste that can be cut out with cutters.
These were so much fun to make. Of the dough I used I split in two, half for me to cut out and decorate and half for my youngest daughter Sasha to do the same with. I got to say I was very impressed with how well she did for her age, she is a natural.
The photo itself I thought just had to match our chaotic baking session with all the added accessories of table cloths, napkins, sprinkles and spare cookies (my kitchen was a complete mess!)
Orange sponge cake fingers on sticks with melted white chocolate, various sprinkles and Cadbury Flake pieces.
I hate leftovers so today decided to use these off cuts of cake to make some cake fingers with the kids. It was great to get the kids involved in baking and decorating. My youngest helped whisk the sponge mixture but got a little annoyed when the mixture stuck to the whisk and managed to flick it all over herself. Both kids were a little less messy when it came to adding the sprinkles and seemed to add more sprinkles to their mouths than the cake.
The funny thing is, we spent so much time with the off cuts of cake and made so much of it I never got around to making the cakes I was planning on decorating today, instead I had to freeze the main cake so I can continue with my original plan another day.
Shortbread cookies sandwiched and decorated with white chocolate ganache for my eldest daughters lunchbox tomorrow. Using up leftovers again! Today using up some butter and cream as i want it all out of the house and replaced with dairy free items. You can probably tell i got my inspiration from yesterdays star cake.
It suddenly occurred to me last night my kids have nothing to put out for Santa tonight so I quickly threw this together this morning with some leftover dark chocolate, golden syrup, butter, Rice Krispies (had no biscuits so this is the crunchy alternative so that is the white bubbly bits you can see in the bites) and marshmallows.
Using up the last of the marshmallows to make this a variation on the typical rice krispie treats. Again didn't have much time for the photography today so not happy with the photo whatsoever but I really wanted to share the idea with you that you can play with what cereal you can use instead of rice krispies.
Chunky banana slices wrapped in pancake on skewers served with a chocolate ganache dip. I also had a maple syrup dip and some lemons so the family had a choice of toppings for breakfast on this day, Pancake Day here in the UK.
I was wondering all yesterday what pancakes to make today but then I remembered the crepes I made and how much the family loved those so thought I would go for a similar flavour combo but served in more of a fun and interesting way.
That's it from me this week, no more baking, or food photography as my eldest has chickenpox. Also tomorrow is my Birthday and I don't fancy baking, not even a cake for myself, funny as I am always making other people birthday cakes, I just don;t have the same enthusiasm for baking for myself.
Dark and White chocolate shells filled with Strawberry Jello.
I have been wanting to work with jello for such a long time now, normally I only use it for trifle but thanks to the lovely who I must dedicate these too I have been inspired at last to find new ways of using it.
I was intending on covering the top of the jello with chocolate but I thought the white chocolates looked so vibrant and much more appealing for the kids uncovered.
TIP: Do not leave the jello to cool for too long before adding to the chocolate shells else when you come to pour your jello into your shells it might not be as smooth as you may like! I still have much to learn from the master of jello!
More from the lovely If you have a love for all things colourful, jello and cute marshmallows, she is must to follow.
Rich chocolate and Nutella sponge baked in old Nutella glass jars, topped with vanilla butter cream and caramel sprinkles. The sponge and butter cream is gluten and dairy free.
I have a real obsession with glass jars at the moment. Firstly I made a 2013 memory jar where every time something good happens i write it on some paper and add it to the jar so at the end of the year can see what good happened. Second I re planted some house plants into glass jars. Finally while washing up yesterday there was an empty Nutella jar in front of me in the window which made me suddenly think "I must make a Nutella cake in the glass jar" and today that is exactly what I did.
Chocolate cake recipe, flour substituted for gluten free flour.
