Reasons to Love dA's Lit Community: Part 1
I love the literature community because it helps my writing and I also love to read what other people write and the ideas they come up with.
I love the literature community here on dA for various reasons, and one is that they are always supportive when you need some support or help. They always seem to be willing to give advice when it is asked for, or to just talk literature in often. Literature is one of the most powerful forms of art with the capability to shape the world and our cultures as we know it. Even t
Self-Injury Awareness 2013 Fears vs DreamsThe FactsSelf-Injury Awareness 2013 Fears vs Dreams1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
March 1st is a day that calls attention to a sensitive subject that takes on many meanings and forms for people. Self-injury, or self-harm, is the act of deliberately harming oneself physically, usually as a mechanism for expressing distress or coping in difficult situations. Self-injury is commonly associated with cutting, but can also refer to burning, scratching, bruising, bleaching, overdosing, some forms of hair pulling and picking, and breaking bones. Binging and purging may also be considered self-injuring behavior.
The reasons behind self-injury and the people who self-injure vary greatly, but one thing to keep in mind is that it does not matter what culture, ethnicity, gender, or age you are: there are people who have injured themselves from all walks of life. Triggering events like bullying, trauma, abuse, school, work pressures, bereavement and difficult relationships can all contribute to the distress one feels that leads them to self-injure, but
Difference between selling Art and selling MeatGreetings Ryceballs. Today I am gonna be talking about the differences between selling art and selling meat.Difference between selling Art and selling Meat9 months ago in Personal More Like This
It is absolutely fascinating how different the two can be! :iconyoudontsayplz: ... Well first of all, an artist likes their work to be appreciated and let the audience see for themselves whether they want to buy their artwork or not. While a butcher (ESPECIALLY ASIAN ONES LIKE THE ONE IN THE ARTWORK) only cares about selling the meat and making the profit, they have no sentimental feelings towards what they are selling, because if they do then there won't be any meat to sell right? One of the main rule of a butcher is to have no emotional attachment towards the animals, because they know sooner or later the animal needs to be chopped up. Well what about artists? Well they put their blood, sweat and tears into their artwork to make it as pretty as possible, all in hopes that the audiences would enjoy their art as much as the artist enjoy making them. NOW here's the thing thoug
i have a problemwith people reading my words. the internet probably receives only one-fourth of all the shit i write, and i put a lot on the internet. i hate people touching my journals or going on my stash on da or even my tumblr and reading my private posts. i hate too when i am writing and someone leans over my shoulder to see what i write. i become self-conscious and insecure that whatever i am writing is not impressive enough, because it usually is not, and i lose that thread of inspiration i was turning into words, and stop whatever i am doing, completely, and when i stop i NEVER resume. a piece is not as good as it could be as when it is written in the heat versus when it is written after the heat. when i was a little kid i made my own substitute for the alphabet so no one could read my diary; it worked, and eventually i could read it without the code. i think i am going to start doing that. i cannot write with the conscious of knowing people are going to read my stuff or that it is being read.i have a problem1 year ago in Personal More Like This

Hello, deviants! In an effort to keep the community informed and to provide the best possible experience for our members, we wanted to inform you of changes to our reporting system.
DeviantART is dedicated to protecting our artists, and in an effort to be able to more quickly handle complaints by deviants who have had their rights infringed on, we have changed the way we receive complaints from the artist or the copyright holder.
In the past, we took reports by the copyright holder in two different ways: An informal report via the Report Violation tool and a formal complaint via contacting the Help Desk. While both of these methods were effective, they presented many setbacks.
The informal report did not gather all the necessary information for a formal copyright complaint and was prone to misuse by well-meaning deviants who would attempt to report images they did not own the copyright to

I think just about every circle develops a canonically acceptable aesthetic after a fair bit of time, and it's some of the most beautiful, fascinating things I've ever witnessed. There's not really an overt right-ness or wrong-ness to the aesthetic, but it's dictated by reactions ranging from the quiet nods and thumbs-up gestures to resounding choruses of emphatic support. It seems to happen very democratically, but it all appears to sort of quarantine itself into a realm of sometimes uncritical de facto uniformity.
In terms of visual culture, every image-sharing platform eventually kind of develops a preferred visual inclination. Deviantart, Pixiv, SheezyArt, Newgrounds, CGHub, Tumblr, and wherever else you find people interacting with images as both creators and consumers eventually seem to develop this clear dominant visual aesthetic for all kinds of different reasons ranging from location, restrictions of media, national-cultural contexts, e

Welcome to the deviantART related monthly challenges!
Each month you will be given a theme and two categories from the deviantART related gallery. You then have one month to create something for it. In which way you interpret the theme is up to you, but it has to be for one of the categories chosen.
For each category there will be one winner and one runner up.
Theme & Category
When working on your entries, try to be creative and don't just do the first thing you have in mind. Some categories will be more challenging than others - that's for sure - but maybe it's a good way to get out of your comfort zone and try something new. Maybe you will like it!
Your theme for December is:

The categories you should create your entries for are:
FML. The Super Mario Galaxy StoryYou guys like story yeah? Let uncle Ry tell you a story, there's a lesson to learn here kids. Pay attention. I wanna talk about this now because last week was my birthday and it reminded me of this story, its related to a birthday gift. The gift was Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii. This story happened a few years ago.FML. The Super Mario Galaxy Story5 months ago in Personal More Like This
This is a picture of me playing the Nintendo Wii, I love my Wii. Had lots of great times on it playing games like Smash Brothers and Mario Kart and Twilight Princess, and a game I really loved called Super Mario Galaxy. The story takes place around 2009? A couple of years after the Wii came out. So one day a friend of mine Matt messaged me telling me he got a Wii, I thought great, about time he got a Wii. So I congratulated him, then he asked the question. :I He asked whether he can borrow some games and I was like 'HMMMMMMMM SHIT'. Well Matt is a nice guy, pretty honest and pretty generous. I usually am pretty generous too but when it comes to games, I hate lending it out

I along with thousands of other students will spend tomorrow silent in support of LGBTQ students in demonstration against the "...silencing effect of anti-LGBT bullying and harassment in schools."
I invite everyone to stand with me on this. The Day of Silence's purpose is to bring attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment and effective responses. The goal of the Day of Silence is to make schools safer for all students, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity/expression. In a Harris Interactive study on bullying, students said two of the top three reasons students are harassed in school are actual or perceived sexual orientation and gender expression. Additionally, nearly 9 out of 10 LGBT students experience harassment at school. Students across the country participate in the Day of Silence to bring attention to this problem
Colours Vol. One:iconwildrune11: This skin was deeply inspired by the skins marioluevanos creates. I like the ways he uses colour and line in his designs. I made and discarded three journal skins while I was trying to come up with a design for this series, and when I had the idea to create a simple but attractive skin like his, I started work on a fourth skin (not knowing yet if I would use it or not). The first thing I did was create a colour palette at colorschemedesigner.com - a simple but powerful colour palette creation tool I recently discovered. As I started creating my skin and applying the colours I had selected, I realised what I would call my feature series - "Colours". The word "colours" can mean many things, and some of these meanings are things I want to achieve in my features.Colours Vol. One2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
