A Beginner's Guide :: Literary CommissionsIf you're a writer who's considering selling their skills, but not sure of how to set up prices or know what exactly you need to write in your information, look no further! Myself and imaginary-rose have complied a few tips to help beginning writers who want to start commissions but unsure of how to take the first step.A Beginner's Guide :: Literary Commissions2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The Important Things
The biggest thing you need to consider before taking commissions is "How well can I write another's ideas?". This is a big thing because if you're not able to put your own into words that well, it may be challenging to put another's on paper. We suggest taking requests to see how well you work under a bit of pressure. If you can handle it well and get it done within a reasonable amount of time, you're a prime candidate to start selling your skills.
Know your strengths and weaknesses as a writer. In your information, you want to be 100% honest with your potential buyers. Don't sugarcoat your weakness or over emph

Your Numbers are Irrelevant. You're not going to see me post these frankly tired "tuff luv arteest" journals. But there's a recurring problem that is bugging the HELL out of me.Your Numbers are Irrelevant.10 months ago in Personal More Like This
Pageviews. Followers. Number of high profile/talented artists you've earned the "respect" of. I'm not talking about gaining exposure for the purpose of making MONEY either now or in the future with your work. I'm talking about just wanting numbers for no reason.
Stop focusing on them.
So far I've noticed two different types of people. The one who works diligently on their trade, but focuses too much on their numbers. Profusely wondering why they can't meet the popularity levels of That Other Guy™ when they should be asking "what can I do to improve my abilities so I can succeed and be happy with myself"? This person loses themselves. They become depressed. They contemplate leaving galleries behind. They let it eat at them for months and it even cuts into their lives. It's like watching a once lively po
EncouragementWhen I started out on DeviantArt, I used to be one of those artists that thought I could never do art properly.Encouragement1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I'll start saying that I spend most of my childhood getting only little encouragement.
My parents were, like many other parents, convinced that art wasn't that much of a useful skill since it's nearly impossible to earn money with -- and would've liked it if I spend my time doing something more useful instead. At school I was that pathetic kid without friends. Creative, yet very introverted. The one that gets bullied in the schoolyard. Needless to say; it was rare to find people saying something nice about me, and it was even more rare to find someone actually encouraging me.
Back then, I used to believe that I was alone. I initially signed up to DeviantArt to find people with similar interests. But it happened to change my mind along the way. When I came into contact with other artists, I came to realize that there were in fact many people just like me. People th

They're also selling other people's art and photographs/selfies. Their search engine seems to be broken, but it's all still there. It seems like they're just taking images from Google.
I know I did a signal boost journal earlier, but this is important as well! Please help sign this to have it taken down;

The Slender Man
In this season of deceits deceptions & witcheries
I am wary of my following message not being received with the full gravity it deserves. It is not my intention to unduly alarm the deviantART community, but... LaurenKitsune is at this time unaccounted for. All attempts on our part to contact her have failed. It is my hope that she has simply taken a much deserved unscheduled pre-Halloween “vacation” and will be back in online communication soon.
Before going dark, LaurenKitsune was good enough to write and transmit a report on the Slender Man phenomenon sweeping the Internet. That report is published here fo
Reguarding The New DmC: We'll be okay.So... I've been downloading Devil May Cry OSTs And while listening to "I'll be your home" I realized something- About my Rants and Raves towards the new DmC:Reguarding The New DmC: We'll be okay.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
There's Nothing we can do. Nothing
But thats okay- Because they can't simply come in and take away the Dante, the emotions, the love, the hate, the frustration of being stuck on Vergils last battle and finally screaming "TAKE THAT YOU WHORE!!!!" at the screen at the end of the game!!!! No. They can't.. they can't take what they've already given us.
This new game is much like a cold: All we have to do is lay back, relax and it'll go away.
I can't wait for it to come out- perhaps if not many people enjoy it they may realize how many are outraged.
I complain not. Its a good thing I'm not a Devil...
Because I'm bawling. Crying. Sobbing. All and any derivitives for the tears inside me. To be a nerd and quote the song I'm sobbing to: "The tears inside me calm me down"
Thinking about that reminds me of DMC3's last few cutscenes...

Dear deviantART...I am refusing to use the rebranded name because, I'm annoyed about the rebrand. I'm annoyed about your direction, your lack of focus in key areas and your lack of communication. I said I'd never be a bitter former staff member, but it seems that I am.Dear deviantART...1 month ago in Personal More Like This
Last year you spent a lot of money on a rebrand, this year you've cut 50% of your work force, entire departments have been decimated and peoples lives have been thrown upside down without notice. But you never really communicated to anyone why. You still don't, you're not telling the community what's happening and that's only going to hurt you. People will see that helpdesk tickets take longer to get a response, people see that lots of people are no longer staff and you're not letting them know why. You know that people have a belief that the site is dying, you're only furthering it right now. How much of a better state would the site be in if the rebrand hadn't happened? Would I and the rest of the people that lost our jobs without notic

For f**k’s sake. Terrorists are not under your bed. They are not hiding around every corner. They are not in the seat next to you. The few that are out there only win if you start to think they might be.
In 2005, a gaggle of weak-minded twits blew themselves up on the London Underground. I and 1.2 BILLION other passengers per year still use it. Could another attack happen? Of course. But so could fire, flood, collapse or accident. You could get hit by a bus as you exit the station! There are a thousand-and-one terrible things that could happen to you today and, I assure you, unless you live in some third world sh*thole, the odds of a random yahoo causing you physical harm for political or religious reason is one of the least likely to occur.

Slenderman AttackTwo girls in Wisconsin have been arrested for stabbing a classmate, apparently with the intention of becoming minions of the Slenderman. They were caught walking near a local highway, en route to Wisconsin’s Nicolet National Forest, where they believe the fictitious character lives.Slenderman Attack1 year ago in Personal More Like This
The victim, who was stabbed 19 times, is making a recovery.
All the girls involved are around 12 years old.
That’s all terrible, but what actually irks me more is that a spokesman for the Slenderman creator, and administrator for the website where most fiction revolving around the character is posted, has said "We are not teaching children to believe in a fictional monster, nor are we teaching them to be violent."
I think it’s pretty bad that a person who comes up with a concept has to be afraid of the reaction to how other people use it. Especially children. They’re random, dangerous little buggers.
Think back to your own childhood. What was the stupidest thing you did, and why?

Female Karkat RPKarkat had felt sick the night before, he was hot and felt really tired. So he went to sleep early. When he had woke up the next day, he had found that his chest, well, now had boobs. He got some clothes on and called you.
"GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE, I NEED HELP." he yelled into the phone. And boy was his voice more feminine.
When you got to his house you knocked at the door and it was answered by a short girl who looked like Karkat who had an angry expression, "FUCKING FINALLY, TOOK YOU FOREVER TO GET HERE." she huffed.
What do you say/do?

Mindful Meditation of Daily Drawing
Foreword by techgnotic
Gabriel Picolo is a graphic design student in Brazil who has provided at least two people—me and himself—a most compelling reason for getting out of bed every morning in 2014. He calls it the 365 Days of Doodles Project, for which he creates, each day, one of his wildly imaginative pencil sketch and ink drawings (quite a bit more elevated than a “doodle”—more like a free-flowing meditation).

Interesting (if dark) theory relating to Pokemon!Although it is impossible to gain eggs of legendary pokemon (with the Creation Trio and Manaphy the only two exceptions, and even then, you need a mystery gift event to get them) in the games, it IS shown that Legendaries can have young in the anime (as seen with a mother Lugia and her baby Silver). I think I know why Lugia is so rare - The Pokemon Gorebyss.Interesting (if dark) theory relating to Pokemon!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Think about this, okay? Lugia are found in water-filled areas, and are even shown in the anime to live in the oceans (as seen in Pokemon 2000, the Power of One). As Pokemon reproduce with eggs, regardless whether or not the species is mammalian.
This means a Lugia with an egg stay with it after breeding for three reasons:
1-To incubate the egg
2-To protect it from thieves and ward off predators
3-To prevent it from being carried by ocean currents.
Whilst she is keeping the egg protected, the mother's body must be kept relatively still.
Enter a school of Gorebyss, which as stated in their R/S/E Pokedex entries, that they
Avoid UbisoftA while back, just after I had completed whichever iteration of Assassin’s Creed involved the pirate guy, I said that Watchdogs was probably going to be a crap game. A number of people said I was wrong to badmouth a game without playing it, but my argument was that you could gauge the quality of an upcoming title by the studio/publisher’s previous output. With that in mind, it’s fairly obvious that Ubisoft’s preferred method is to dazzle the weaker minded with pretty, pretty graphics in order to sell as many copies as possible before someone points out that the game actually plays like a dog (which – what ho - is exactly what Watchdogs did).Avoid Ubisoft10 months ago in Personal More Like This
Ass Creed: Unity hit the headlines because of it doesn’t just play bad, it’s flat out broken.

He was an artist you might not know.
But you’ve met his children…
It’s rare that a “new” iconic monster is born and becomes forever identifiable,—— no matter the variations, by generation after generation. So it was when George Romero created the ultimate “zombie” in his Night of the Living Dead in 1968. Zombie Apocalypse fans today may have never heard of George or seen the original “Night,” but the zombies they so love in fare like The Walking Dead owe their existence to Romero’s original vision.
In 1979, screenwriter Dan O’Bannon craft

Change is not something that we take lightly, because it affects our collective identity. It was important for us to define who we are and what we’re made of at our core before we changed anything. We all have our own understanding of what that means, but the process of getting that core story down on paper took almost a year.
The result is “Bleed and Breed Art.” This is our center of gravity and our reason for getting out of bed i
