Chapter Thirteen: Unforgotten
The Iliad and the Odyssey were intended as humankind's first true migration to the far reaches of space. The first two commercialized vessels ever created with Shaw-Fujikawa engines were commissioned by the Trans-Universal Emigration Association; civilian economic geniuses trying to get a foothold on what had been primarily military interests. The TUEA intended to take two thousand "ordinary" people along with another thousand specialists to a small yellow star at the far reaches of explored space. They hoped to settle on the earth-like planet in orbit of A-3317-C, forever hallmarking the TUEA as the Forefathers of spatial colonization.

She yawned softly "Ever since a weird and nasty plague started spreading throughout Manhattan, my neighbors next door are just having a cow; they keep yapping about how the Government isn't doing their jobs and military trying to hide some kin

It was a moment Kaawen would never forget, standing there on the wall, holding Betath, kissing him in the sunset. But it couldn’t last long. After only a few moments, a guard came sauntering along on his patrol and broke the mood.
Betath glared at him and took Kaawen’s hand. “Let’s go see Captain Astanya before she leaves for the night.” He led her back up the beach to the docks, and then past a small market area to a set of stone steps leading up into the city proper.
At the top of the stairs stood a fully armored Altmer woman with graying hair and eyes so dark that it was hard to tell where the iris ended and the pupil began. She stood there with her arms folded, looking officious, eying them warily. She nodded when they walked up. “Fair evening. How are you, Betath?”
“I am well. Captain, this is Kaawenyth.”
Astanya looked her over and gave a small shrug. “State your business,

Boone had finally fallen asleep, and the Courier had expertly swiped the key from his neck pendant, unlocking the door and slipping out to what was undoubtedly her favorite thinking spot in the entire Mojave, for multiple reasons: Dinky the Dinosaur. She knew part of it was stumbling upon Boone himself up here, but she also remembered seeing it for the first time, a comical testament to the good humor of pre-War citizens, a strange alien structure. The view up here was beautiful when tainted by moonlight, the area secluded, safe and quiet, something most places in the Mojave were not.
Now she rested on her haunches, poking her head out between the two canines Manny and Boone had worn down with their rifle stops. The motel room felt tiny, especially after her strange dream, and looking out on the unforgiving landscape always seemed to calm her for some reason. Especially now, after she'd realized today that this harsh, dry desert w

The Chief crept around a corner only to see a Jackal in his face. Before the Jackal could do a thing, the Chief reached out at the aliens throat and squeezed, killing it. He looked around the room to see if anything had noticed him, but again, nothing was in his way. He disabled the Jackals shield, and slung the body over his shoulder. He began to sneak into a well-hidden corner, and he quietly hid the body. He prayed that no one would discover it.
He began to walk a little faster, trying to avoid anymore awake guards. He turned a corner, and the first t
My Little Dashie: Sick DayI woke up one Monday morning, hopped in the shower and got dressed for work. I wasn't exactly looking forward to getting up so early, after all, Dashie and I stayed up pretty late last night playing Checkers. We were still celebrating over her Cutie Mark, I know it's a bit obsessive, but I'm just so proud of her for getting it. Much to my surprise, she's quite the skilled Checkers player. She beat me every single game we played. Although I was sort of holding back, simply because I loved seeing her so happy especially when the reward was a big hug.My Little Dashie: Sick Day2 years ago in General Fiction More Like This
I peeked in on Dashie to make sure she knew that I was heading off to work. Upon opening her door, I noticed she was still in bed. This wasn't that unusual; she does usually get up about the same time I do, but she has been known to sleep in once in a while especially when she stays up real late.
"Get up Dashie" I called to her, trying not to startle her too much.

Although just agreeing to everything was much easier than explaining to the crew of the Normandy why he did not need sleeping accommodations. After he and Commander Shepard toured the brand new ship (because it was just as unfamiliar to her as it was to him) Alex decided to take up residence in the cargo bay. He picked the corner that was to the right when he exited the elevator. The crew gave him a cot, a foot locker, a table that hooked to the wall, a personal computer and his own omni-tool. He enjoyed the quiet, open, emptiness of the cargo bay. It made him feel less like he was stuck in a spaceship and more like he was back in New York Zero when he was the only living thing for miles, save for a hunter or two.
The peace and quiet did not last, however, becaus

The room was mostly silent except for the soft humming of the motors from the control panel, and only lit with iridescent blue of the hologram. The silence was finally broken by a low, raspy voice. "We've received a message from the High Council to follow the Brutes onto the planet and exterminate the fleet and all the ground forces" The voice was that of Nira, one of the highest ranked officers in the covenant army. The Assault Carrier's control room was illuminated by the purple tint of the lights surrounding it, and glowed violet on the elite's skin and armor.

For the moment, the fighting seemed to have died down. It would give him ample time to find somewhere in the hotel where he could hide out and sleep.

He did not intend that it should be him. The Templar would surely feel the same way. After all, this war – sometimes secret, sometimes open – had been raging for centuries. He did not necessarily understand all the reasons for it. He did not need to. His allies fought for freedom of will, freedom of choice. For the ability of men to stand, not kneel. Noble Team was an anomaly that she didn't want to be part of, but was forced to by command. It wasn't much fair to the team either, to stick her with them. Not so soon after losing the previous Noble Six, Thom. It took a lot to step into the shoes of someone who was well liked and trustworthy. She was the outsider, and it was going to be hell for a while, and probably longer until she was at least considered part of the team.
Replacing her helmet atop her head, she settled in for the rest of the bump

The twenty or thirty so paces that Buck took along the carpeted floor were probably the most comfortable steps he had taken sine the op began. But as he delved deeper, the carefully crafted décor seemed to gradually morph into a motif of disarray and chaos.
Glass crunched beneath his boots as the bending corridor lead him closer to his team's beacon. Buck resented the sound. Normally he hated any noise that drew attention to his location, but the fact that he could hear something so subtle meant that there was nothing nearby to drown it out. Instead of nearing sounds of fire exchanging between his men and the Covvies, the Gunnery Sergeant was enveloped in the shadow of an unnerving and cryptic silence.

Memories haunted her; she closed her eyes and touched her lips, remembering the first time he had kissed her. It almost felt unreal; there had been such passion, such need in him then. They had made love times beyond counting and it had never felt routine, never felt forced, or less intense than that first time. At least not until he had stopped touching her, stopped making love to her, stopped holding her as they slept.
It had happened so gradually she had almost not even noticed at first, his coming to bed a little later each night, rising and already about his day before
