What REALLY gets to me on the internet.I tend not to cuss all that much on the internet... sure, sparingly, just enough to make a point, but I don't very often use "offensive" words to insult people, and on the occasion that I do, well... THAT'S when you know you've really pissed me off. What REALLY gets to me on the internet.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The reason I tend not to tell people to "fuck off" all that often isn't because I find such things too offensive to say (obviously, since I said it just now)... if anything, I don't think that's offensive ENOUGH.
Anyone can say words like that. Any dumb keyboard warrior can troll someone on the internet, saying things like "This sucks, you should kill yourself" and other such horrid things. It's easy. In fact, it's TOO easy. It's cheap and meaningless, and that's why such empty drivel doesn't really bother me all that much. I have thicker skin than that, and I don't really see why such words bother anyone else very much. What DOES get to me is when people say things like "the likes of you" or "what happened to you?", you know? Sentiments li

passion into your profession. But there is a way of measuring your chances on being
able to get work and eventually sustain a living from it.
Accepting commissions or freelance for low payment won't help you. You can think any penny counts, but it will lower the worth of your work and damage the market.
How to measure that you are ready?
You probably have high goals, but they are usually not your first step. You must search out the clients who can be that first step. Often found in the card game industry, book cover illustrations and smaller game company's.
Look at the artwork shown by a company such as the card game company: Fantasy Flight games. Compare your skills with the average of their artworks. If it matches yours, you will have a chance. However, keep in mind that those artworks had been done in a limited timeframe, usually within 12 hour
1/3 of Americans don't want free speech anymore? One crazy thing I've been hearing lately is that the number of Americans who think the 1st Amendment goes "too far" has more than doubled since last year. Last time, it was 13%. Now it's 34%. Are you kidding me? Now I can't help worrying that it may wind up going over 50% in the next year.1/3 of Americans don't want free speech anymore?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I know some of you are going to say it's all a farce anyway... that it's already an illusion, and we don't really have that kind of freedom at all, but that just means we have to fight even more desperately to assert ourselves and get our rights back, and this destructive "Oh, it just isn't worth bothering with anymore" attitude is going to kill the nation.
I've read posts by some particularly naive people who say things like "People like the Westboro Baptist Church shouldn't have the right to free speech. We need to shut people like that up to make the America a nicer, gentler place".
Here's the thing... The people of the Westboro Baptist Church are deplorable assholes. They are vile, nasty people w

7 TIPS FOR THE 21-YEAR-OLD ME by Bobby Chiu
When I was a student in college working on my skills as a character designer, I’d had periods where I would sit at my desk working as hard as I could but having little to show for my efforts at the end of the day. I remember sitting there surrounded by blank pieces of paper, trying to come up with an amazing style that nobody had ever seen before. I would do one drawing and not be satisfied, so I would lay a new piece of paper over it, re-draw it with slight changes to features here and there. This would still not be good enough so I would put another piece of paper over my revision, make more minor adjustments trying to perfect this new style I was searching for.
I did this for weeks on end, tweaking and polishing over and over, working hard every day. But in the end, did I come up with a brand new style, something amazing that

As she stood in front of her 5th grade class on the very first day of school, she told the children an untruth. Like most teachers, she looked at her students and said that she loved them all the same. However, that was impossible, because there in the front row, slumped in his seat, was a little boy named Teddy Stoddard.
Mrs. Thompson had watched Teddy the year before and noticed that he did not play well with the other children, that his clothes were messy and that he constantly needed a bath. In addition, Teddy could be unpleasant.
It got to the point where Mrs. Thompson would actually take delight in marking his papers with a broad red pen, making bold X's and then putting a big "F" at the top of his papers.
At the school where Mrs. Thompson taught, she was required to review each child's past records and she put Teddy's off until last. However, when she reviewed his file, she was in f

What Godzilla: Heritage is:
From an initial idea formed in late 2009, Godzilla: Heritage's concept has drawn the interest of several talented artists and actors - non-fan and fan alike and is now entering pre-production status. The film seeks to return the Godzilla mythology to its darker roots and ground the character and some of its memorable kaiju in an altered continuity that explores a world where they have been a staple of everyday life for almost 60 years. The project will utilize traditional suitmation and miniatures as well as more contemporary effects. The film is a non-profit project . "Godzilla" and all related charac

Personally? I like it. It's...well, it's Godzilla! Kind of a big blend of everything that's come before. One thing I find most intriguing are the eyes. They aren't as fierce as we're more or less used to seeing...which says to me that this isn't really representative of Godzilla's entire range of emotion. Edwards went on record stating that Godzilla's "character" has been coming through in the visual effects process, so perhaps this is simply a neutral state for his face? Will the monster become considerably angrier-looking in the film? Time will tell! For the moment, he's a beast of intelligence and ancient power. There's something softer behind those eyes that the blind, unfurled rage we've so often been witness to in the past.

-A friend reminded me that a little something called ATTACK OF THE FRIDAY MONSTERS! A TOKYO TALE came out on the 3DS virtual store recently.
I heartily recommend it to all of my fellow kaiju-lovers. Here's the catch, though - it's one of those pesky stories where battling titans are not, in fact, the point. It's a love-letter to not just the tokusatsu genre, but rather, the nostalgiac childhoods of many a Japanese citizen, growing up in the 1960's, where monsters and heroes were all the rage, and kids played outside and had their own adventures. It's GOONIES meets GODZILLA'S REVENGE with a dash of DEMEKING, with a heaping helping of ULTRAMAN GAIA: BATTLE IN HYPERSPACE.
The story is ultimately one of childhood. The peaceful Japanese suburb calls to mind the sort of kaiju story that Hayao Miyazaki would create - it revels in the mundane beauty of Japanese suburban life. I would normally say that those who are "expecting" a royal monster rumble would be "disappointed"...but that's

"So we here on Team ROE have some fantastic breaking news... WE'RE GOING TO 12 ISSUES!!!
First off, the team is beyond excited to continue telling some stories in the ROE world, but even more so, we're all so very thankful to the fans that have gone out of their way to support the book and spread the word. Sales numbers (you know, those really important things in the eyes of publishers) are steady for now, but still not great. That being said, any slight dip could bring us right back in the category of "on the chopping block" and that's not somewhere we want to be. Holding steady will be wonderful, but getting numbers up would be even better (and a very rare feat for any comic).
It is our firm belief that the best stuff is yet to come and there's way more that we would like to do. So for now, we're going to 12 issues and we owe it all to everyone that has purchased the book, pre-ordered (PLEASE continue to pre-order... it's so important), w

After much waiting around for something worthwhile to be done by the constantly complaining fans of Archie Sonic, I decided I'd pull off the best actual course of action myself, and take it directly to Ken Pender's forums. Seeing as he's the cause of it all, he's the first step in getting this "mess" sorted out. So I went ahead and posted a wall of text post describing the situation and asking the questions that need be asked. I will know if the response isn't satisfactory, and I worded everything in such a way that it makes a severe impact. You guys want these characters back? I'M YOUR BEST CHANCE AT IT. So here is the post in it's entirety:
"Since I cannot post a new topic, I'll have to reply to one that currently exists. I don't know what else I can do to prove that I'm not a bot or some lurker try

This is really messed up.
I'm back with another rant, but this one is much more serious.
We all know Jeff the Killer, right? The overrated creepypasta that won the hearts of many fangirls who didn't mind bad story writing or grammar? Yeah, despite of the fans stripping him of his psychotic personality, the story was still bad and didn't make logical sense.
But you know what's worse?
What if I told you that the real, true, original image of Jeff the Killer, was a photoshopped image of a girl who had killed herself from being bullied?
I'm not making this up.
Here's the evidence, just skip to 22:55 to get to that particular point if you don't want to watch the whole thing.

6 Movies They Should Make (But Probably Won't)There are so many stories, so many lost gems of fiction that drift in the ether criminally unknown. It's impossible for this not to be the case because of how many cultures and how many artists make their works in so many different genres and styles and mediums. Film I still consider one of the most interesting in terms of how many people need to collaborate to bring it about, the options it has to tell a story in such a vivid and immediate way, the communal aspect of sharing those stories, and the way that art form has shaped our society, our dreams.6 Movies They Should Make (But Probably Won't)4 months ago in Personal More Like This
So because of that naturally everyone would like something they enjoyed to be brought to life on the silver screen: great actors taking the roles of their favorite characters, digital effects used to breath vitality into their favorite moments.
But films are driven oftentimes (especially the massive budgeted ones) by an unfortunately combination of favoritism, current popularity, and nepotism. If you don't know the right peopl
My Star Wars vs. Aliens storyI've been wanting to do this for a long time - and here it is at long last - my fan story/art featuring a confrontation between Darth Vader, a squad of Stormtroopers and a group of angry Alien Xenomorphs (and a surprise character also makes an appearance at the end!).My Star Wars vs. Aliens story6 months ago in Personal More Like This
This story ties together some of the pin-up pieces I've posted mashing up these two sci-fi franchises. I'm a big fan of them both - and this is my homage to them, as well as my hope that a meeting could someday find its way onto the big screen.
The set up for this story is as follows:
Following the fall of the Republic and rise of the Empire, Darth Vader continues to fall ever deeper into the abyss of the Dark Side of the Force. His efforts to enforce his master's will and lust for power lead him to delve further into the lore of the mysterious Sith.
Learning from his evil Emperor that former Sith apprentice, Darth Maul, had overcome a nest of Xenomorphs as a right of passage, Vader has search
'Sonic Boo' or The Importance of a WorldNo, I didn't forget the 'M' in the title.'Sonic Boo' or The Importance of a World5 months ago in Personal More Like This
You probably supposed my review of the show Sonic Boom would be a negative one out of the gate. I tend to be pretty harsh when it comes to entertainment's foibles, I'm a fan of Sonic when he takes chances and not when he's complacent to some kind of pointless dumbing down of character, and I'm not fond of kid's shows that actively diminish IQs. It doesn't help that the game Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric is also apparently an unpolished, largely unfinished mess which is making some fondly look back to the glory days of Sonic 2006.
So I could just spend my time on this journal ragging on the show or the game for the numerous little nitpicks as well as big gaping plot holes, quality issues, and just plain lazy pandering steps that all backfired in such a big way as to make even me who was that close to being a die-hard fan nearly concede that Sonic as a franchise might be not only dead but also buried with a stake through it's heart by this point.
