"Of course, Sou."
The little boy calmly walked to his father's side, small hand instantly coming up to clutch at his father's ever-bandaged fingers. He turned a serious expression to the older brunette—an expression Sou had definitely gotten from his daddy—and asked, "Why do you go to the memorial every day?"
Sasuke's eyes widened fractionally at the question. Of course, his son was very sharp. That was a trait both he and Sakura had given to all of their children and he could not be more grateful. But after years of explaining away his absence in the early mornings, that was a question he hadn't expected.
"You wanna know why I go to the memorial huh?" he echoed, a mysterious smile taking root on his pale lips. He looked up from the boy to gaze out the window he was standing just in front of; the window with the perfe

The greeting echoed emptily off the small apartment walls, no one there to hear it but him. Dust covered everything in a fine layer again... Had he really been gone that long? A month didn't feel so far away anymore.
Cerulean eyes wandered aimlessly over the sparse furniture, picking out individual pieces of dust floating in the shafts of light created by the blinds covering his window. Everything was the same as he'd left it, nothing out of place; not that he had expected any less.
The blonde sighed heavily, slouching back against the door he had just entered through. Still the same... Which went for everything. Same village, no troubles. Same drive and still no Sasuke.
His breaths were heavy with remorse and defeat as Naruto gazed emptily out through those broken window eyes. He had failed once more to bring his friend back. It was nothing new, but the wound still wept crimson tears.
Every mission had been such a strain on him lately. It didn't matter how simpl

As tears stream down your face, I will be there; your shoulder to cry on.
When you need to scream, I will listen, ever silent.
If you need to fight, I will be there to fight back.
I will be your light and your dark, if only you let me.
You need but beckon and I will come.
Send me off, and off I go.
Look at me, and I melt.
Simply look away, and I will die.
You are my everything and my nothing.
But am I nothing to you?

Sasuke looked over his head with a smile as he felt strong arms come up over his shoulders from behind. Naruto looked like he had just awoken--circles under his eyes not yet faded, eyes glassy, hair a bit of a mess. But he was smiling the most beautiful smile the man had ever seen.
"Just finishing up some last minute paperwork so we can have the rest of our vacation to ourselves," he replied in a contented hum, accepting the gracious, lazy kiss that was pressed to his lips. His chest hummed while his skin sang pleasantly of the touch.
"Well then hurry up and come back to bed," Naruto languidly returned. "I'm feelin' lazy and I got some things I think I need to give ya." His tone was sultry and sleepy and everything perfect in Sasuke's world.
Before the blonde could slip his arms back off of Sasuke's shoulders, the older man caught his left hand and brought it back to his lips. He gave the blonde a meaningful, upside-down

For you, it was a fantastic opportunity to learn about a village you had always been enamored with. As a Konoha native, you had grown up hearing about the Village Hidden in the Sand. From merchants’ tales, to tales from the foot soldiers stopping in the Leaf after traversing the desert, you had heard a fine amount about the exotic extravagance of the village. It more than piqued your interest to hear about the spice vendors and merchants toting carpets and tapestries. To you, it seemed like a different world.
And now you were going to be able to witness a piece of that world! Festivities were scheduled to start before noon; so you readied yourself rather quickly, tossing on a simple clothing s

His hand moved of its own volition, reaching shakily for his lover's face. When it made contact with skin it was already far too cold, fingers not responding the way the once skilled shinobi knew he should have managed. But in the face of something so helpless, he supposed he really didn’t care.
Naruto sobbed hard again, clutching at the Jonin's blood-soaked hand, tears pouring down his face and marring his vision. He didn't have the words to say; didn’t have the strength to save him. He couldn’t do anything but sit there and cry.

"Yes, Naruto?" The older man's voice was subdued as he gazed past the memorial in front of them, eyes not really seeing the names or the stone, but the faces that belonged to them. He did not shift from his stance, hands in his pockets, head bowed slightly.
The silence stretched between them as the blonde contemplated his words, wind tousling his hair. He had an image to keep now, didn’t he? "Can you keep a secret?"
Twilight was lying in her bed wide awake, staring at the ceiling. The sunlight was creeping into the room behind the thick blue curtains; the light filtering through casted faint shadows on the walls. The mare was going over yesterday's lesson in her head. Instead of ending awkwardly like the one earlier this week, it had just been awkward in general. The lengthy discussions she and the Princess usually had about the books had been diminished into a few words and there had been no "ideas" from Princess Celestia. At least this time Twilight had been prepared for it, though the way she prepared for something like this meant that there was rarely much more she could learn. Luckily studying was something Twilight greatly enjoyed. She also got to spend time with the Princess - something she enjoyed even more, lately more than ever. But no matter how much she loved all this, she hadn't been able to shake the nagging feeling that s

Lightly tanned fingers barely caught the boy as he careened forward, losing his balance as he flung himself gracelessly around a corner, skidding on his once-clean socks. It seemed that everything was moving in slow motion expect for him; he was running, expending plenty of energy trying to reach that door, but the hall was passing him at a languid, unassuming pace. The door seemed no closer now than it had been when he rounded the corner. In fact, the harder he ran, the further away that door seemed to get!

I know you miss me but you’re fine. Once you make Hokage, do you think you’ll see me all the time still? There may be weeks that all you get is seeing me when I’m already asleep. Anbu gets sent on this kind of thing a lot. Kakashi has told us before how drawn out his old missions could get. You’re fine. You stay strong or you crumble and so help me Uzumaki I won’t see you crumble.
We leave at dawn’s break for the final destination. The journey is purported to take at least eight days. Don’t expect letters for a while. I’m next watch so I can’t make this long. Whatever you do, when you feel like you just can’t anymore, wait for me. And stay good.

my dreams do not float
I am ballast
This sea of change has me submerged
From tired palms
you let me pour
into the belly
of some greater beast
where my lungs can really beg
and where unified chaos has riptide potential
Flesh is elemental
Desires are incidental
Come what may
Death and decay
This man-made wheel will sink
To the bottom
it will race
all your good intentions
first to rest rusting somewhere
deep beside the long-since
oxidized pipe dreams of your youth
It's all relative to the weather
Emergent then dissolving
Here today, gone tomorrow
A flighty phoenix
Drawn close and cast away
never settled long
and bitter ash
There are rituals in glances
Here among the tossed-aside innuendos
Let the music of time drown out
all the best laid plans
A pair of rubber gloves
for another generation denied

We were attacked on the road while travelling to the new location. Most of our reconnaissance group was severely injured and we had to relocate to a nearby village to receive appropriate medical assistance. Our medical nin was murdered before we even knew what was happening.
The bastards got my arm pretty good. Whatever poison their blades were coated in eats through the skin like fire through the forest. The village doctors couldn’t do much so for now my left arm is out of commission. We’ve been in this village for a few days now. I don’t know how long exactly. I only woke up a few hours ago.
The mission is being postponed. We didn’t know what we were up against. We’d been completely mislead. Somehow incorrect information was fed to our leads and they got the wrong shit back to us. We lost a good handful of shinobi because of that misinformation and I may not be able to use my fucking arm if we can’t get a healer in here quickly enough.

She Visits Her Friends
I can still see their smiles.
All my friends' familiar faces,
They stood here beside me at the eve of the gala.
Through this one night, all nights for years
Over the centuries, over the mortal lifetimes…
After gala I go to see my friends,
Meet them in their rest,
Give them my time…
This one night
I remember them, put flowers on their graves,
When they've left me
Where I cannot follow…
We had our days together.
Our laughter, rich and heartfelt.
In their company I felt peace:
Every moment's measureless ease,
No more a queen,
Not a goddess,
Just a friend.
Could I ever forget them…?
Is this the price I pay for immortality?
See them wither and fade over the passing times,
Carry the memories, when the world around forgets?
When their smiles pass away, when it's all that's lef

Your honey eyes can see no blame
You cannot cope
You cannot hide
From all the torment that’s inside
You try to fight
You seek and fail
You try to win to no avail
And so you try
And so you’re done
And now you’re not the only one
You’re in pain
You’re so far gone
You don’t feel well
Beneath your song
You’ve done so much
It’s not enough
So who is there
To call your bluff?
You can’t go on
But then you try
It takes your strength
And makes you cry
But tears are wrong
No siren’s song
You once were mine
And now you’re gone

One Look (SasuNaru)It was the looks he was spared that he treasured most. They were private, intimate, meant only for him. Furtive, even, if one went so far. Everyone would be talking and laughing and enjoying their meal and then suddenly coal eyes would stray to his cerulean blues and all else would fade away. It was only for seconds at a time, and never really with a smile, but those coal eyes spoke worlds where mouths did not. The brunette regarded him with dull eyes, the tears long gone from their depths. He watched silently as the blonde dropped to his knees, hunched over himself as he bawled openly, begging forgiveness where it wasn’t deserved. He didn’t speak, didn’t move; he was too numb to even realize how quickly it had escalated to this, too stricken by the bruise across his cheekbone to care. So what if a simple apology had suddenly burst into a hysterical tirade? He couldn’t bring himself to care or try any longer.

The last Uchiha looked up from the dirt path beneath his feet to throw a curious glance over his good shoulder. His remaining hand was occupied with his pocket and rather cozy, thank you very much.
That rambunctious blonde, wannabe Hokage was running up the steeply sloped hill behind him, trying to catch up to his brisk pace. When said blonde finally caught up he was no more winded than when he started, owing to his training and years as a shinobi. "Hey I got somethin' really importa

So when Naruto started coughing once more, the Uchiha turned to glare at him, hardly biting his tongue to silence himself as he did. His coal eyes took one sweep over his lover's features—cheeks flushed, eyes glassy and watery from coughing, nose pink; all the tell-tale signs of a feverish cold—and sighed.
