This is why I don't add people on Facebook.
Incidentally, it's creeps like this who also made me lose interest in drawing Clopin in the first place. Needless to say I finally figured out how to block people on that site.

I want to draw... but I don't know what.
There are a number of ways people go around dealing with this issue. Just doodling til something pops out. Working on a list of prompts. Asking people to help give them ideas. Doing an entry for a contest.... there are lots of ways of going about finding something to draw.
EH = Ernest Hemmingway
My own personal way of dealing with it, makes use of the opposite problem.
I have loads of ideas! But I have to go to bed/have no time/paper/drawing equipment.
When I have lots of ideas, as is common for me before I'm about to go to bed, or when I'm supposed to be doing something else, I write it down in my magical sparkly kitty book, AKA my Artist Journal. If I just shrug and go "I'll draw that later"
DeviantART's First Ever Gallery Show in London!Last weekend, a few deviantART staff members were in London for a combination of community fun and srs bsns. On Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012, deviantART sponsored Urban Blighty, a unique showcase of hand-selected Prints by United Kingdom based deviants. These Prints were chosen based on a variety of criteria -- curation quality, previous Print sales, genre, etc. -- in order to exemplify the breadth of works available for sale on deviantART. In contacting our selected artists, we were pleased to hear they were excited to showcase their works and tha

Theme: My own favs with less than 50 favs
To be fair, there are a rare few with 51 favs in #36
Now, some people's art end up more regularly among my favourites and some I stumbled upon and went "fav crazy". I've gathered them all up here, and just as always in my fav features - it's just my favourites which have under 50 favs (since it was a couple of days I gathered them up some might have gotten more by now). This fav feature is the first of it's kind and last for this time.

"Stop looking so sheepish, Benjamin- for christ's sake, you're making me feel awkward!"
"I'm making you feel awkward? Oh I'm so sorry for embarrassing you with my insecurities."
"We promised each other it wouldn't be complicated."
"Yes we did, and I want to, but... oh god..."
"I suppose we should try and make this romantic..."
"What are you doing?"
"Taking of your shirt, tosspot."
"That's your idea of romantic?"
"Shit, this button's stuck."
"Well don't break it!"
"Then you take it off!"
"See, how hard was that? There, you look handsome without it- stop fidgeting!"
"Christ, okay, okay! Jesus, stop being so bossy, you're ruining the mood-"
"What mood, Benjamin? You're bumbling like an idiot and I'm frustrated!"
"And this is helping how?"
"Exactly! God, this isn't working. We'll make sure to be drunken next time we even attempt this."

This week is evil.
Absolute pure evil. My entire brain goes crazy with my philosophy exam, which is on Friday, and which has 100 questions... I read a phrase and I can barely understand what it is about because it's on Ukrainian instead of Russian, not to mention to actually LEARN this absolutely unnecessary for me crap.
I mean, yeah, probably generally I do have to know a few aspects, but not Indian religion in smallest details... And I get oh so pissed because of this, and it annoys me even more.
and even more, knowing I won't pass it and I will loose money I get for studying.
Friday is coming, which means weekends are coming too, but it doesn't even cheer me up, gah D:
I know one thing, that I know nothing- well, hello, this is me
yeah, yeah, yeah, pretty much complaining about the unfairness of life, haha, don't mind me.

DEMOCRATIC: you have 2 cows. Your neighbor has none. you feel guilty for being successful. Since guilty you vote to raise taxes but don't pay any yourself because of loopholes in the law. Barbara Streisand sings for you.
REPUBLICAN: You have 2 cows. Your neighbor has none ..so?
COMMUNIST: You have 2 cows. The government seizes both and provides you with milk. You wait in line for 2hours to get it. It's expensive and sour.
AMERICAN CAPITALISM: you have 2 cows. You sell one, buy a bull, and build a herd of cows.
AMERICAN BUREAUCRACY: You have 2 cows. Under the new farm program the government pays you to shoot one, milk the other, and then pour the milk down the drain.

It is true, and really encouraging to have one, two or 10 believing in your efforts.
But at the same time, it's not that essential.
While it differs from one to another, but for me, I've lived my whole life around people who looked at me and said, "you totally shouldn't be here!" "you're a wasted talented stuck in this place" "you should be in Japan!" "you'll be something someday", "you're meant for greatness" etc. (thank god)
But I only started doing what I do when I turned 25.
It gave me strength throughout the years to not give up on art, but at the same time, I didn't find purpose until I was quarter a century old.
I can't say that I needed to believe in myself, because I always have, but sometimes, things just having a timing, a certain time to happen.

It's really relevant to me right now, because suddenly people have been asking me about my canvases and cut outs... like people I know. I think it's because I posted this picture on my facebook. (which I hardly ever do because I'm like invisible with my friends and family when it comes to my art.)
How it looks in my room BTW: http://ceshira.tumblr.com/post/40891503944/if-youre-wondering-why-ed-edd-n-eddy-didnt-make
And what the guy says in the video is true. People expect you to do free work because "Hell, it will only take you a few minutes."
Well no it doesn't. For one thing, I take my sweet ass time because I worry that if it looks bad, I'll see how limited my abilities really are. AND THEN MY FAMILY WILL CRITICIZE ME SAYING "SHE QUIT BEING A NURSE FOR THIS? PSSSHHHH" (I have some issues with family's judge-y eyes.) So yes, I think the emotional stress I would have

How to Stop Planning and Use What You've GotArticle cowritten by ShadowedAcolyte and neurotype. How to Stop Planning and Use What You've Got2 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
We've chosen to present this in bullets. The first few are ways to tell when your planning has gone too far; the rest are how to get past that.
Featured literature was chosen for its ability to present exposition: good pacing, tantalizing hints, etc.
How do I know I've planned too much?
When you can't hold it all in your head. When you can't explain it without a long-winded summary."So you've planned X. How will you reveal X to the reader?" If you can't immediately think of a good idea, it's probably overplanned.
Volume: how much of your story is world-building/backstory?
Properly spaced, you could get up to 10% world into a story without ruining the book (e.g. for an epic fantasy or something else not set in a place readers will immediately recognize). The rest should be happening now.If the setting is much more familiar—like, Everytown, USA, it could easily be 1% backstory.
Down once more, dark despair, guilt etc.Nahh, not really. But another late apology for no update! I'm very much afraid Louisa is off gallivaunting about Eastern Europe on a well-deserved holiday, so that's your pretty Underground coloured page delayed awhile. You know they're worth it.Down once more, dark despair, guilt etc.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Yeah, I think you can kinda consider this an official announcement of regular standard Wednesday posting to be a luxury of the past. I have very little buffer, this Back-to-the-Underground arc keeps twisting unpredictably in ways I need some serious thinking-cap time to optimize, I do not want to rush and and end up missing out on any good ideas on this majorly plotty arc, yet I have little spare creative time to spend on mulling it over. I do feel that keeping to a schedule is part and parcel of the webcomic funtimes, and I feel a little odd every Wednesday that passes without an upload - but I can't do that and do right by the characters, not with my current projects.
Just assume that the whole being-in-the-Labyrinth thing means time

This week is going to feature stunning animation, interviews with amazing people and a strong focus on Pre-Production within Animation. Also during the week I'll have facts about animation that you might not have known about!
I'll be featuring amazing animation, helping newbies get their feet wet and how to upload your animations to deviantART. I will also be talking about web animation sensations on websites such as Youtube and Newgrounds.
Before we start, I'd like to push my Art History articles - I wrote two journals about the History of Animation up until 1990, so if you feel you dont know your Fleischers from your Windsor McCays then step this way!
Of course, though, animation exists everywhere and has done for hundreds of years! There ar
Art Style.Art style is not something you simply 'get'.Art Style.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
It is not in any tutorial.
You cannot change the way you draw an eye and say that defines your art style.
Art style is something that is always changing and developing. Even artists who have achieved crazy skill in anatomy and characterizing to the point where it seems they cannot improve anymore are changing their style gradually over time.
I did not 'decide' the way I draw. I am not 'lucky' that my art is the way it is.
I realized one day, after I had my first real characters of Death and Gregory, that I wanted to be original. I wanted a comic with my own style, not like the anime I had been addicted to drawing.
It was so frusterating. I couldn't decide how to draw the eyes not anime, didn't know how to stylize a nose not anime, didn't know how to be original. All I knew was that I loved making really fluid bodies, long and noodly, much like my cartoon style now.
I decided to stop overanalyzing my fucking style and went with it and started
