For computer users, a few mouse clicks could mean the difference between staying online and losing Internet connections this summer.
Unknown to most of them, their problem began when international hackers ran an online advertising scam to take control of infected computers around the world. In a highly unusual response, the FBI set up a safety net months ago using government computers to prevent Internet disruptions for those infected users. But that system is to be shut down.
The FBI is encouraging users to visit a website run by its security partner, http://www.dcwg.org , that will inform them whether they're infected and explain how to fix the problem. After July 9, infected users won't be able to connect to the Internet.
Most victims don't even know their computers have been infected, although the malicious software probably has slowed their web surfing and disabled their antiv

Hey dear watchers again,
Here's a new XPS version!
- Yepp we thought it'd be kinda fun to have a few small versions before XPS 11!
You are weird. Who wants to DL small versions anyway?
- Oh uhm I don't think we are. And like always you are not forced to update ;D Expect a few more XPS releases from now on Small things but we went for the countdown.
Okay fine...but what's new in this?
- A long requested feature. The Cel shader! It will probably be updated in the future but here you have a basic one for now Shader> Cel Map.
(also the middle one here shows a different toon (cel) shade texture on a more detailed model: http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2013/310/7/1/test_by_xxfreakyunderworldxx-d6t9i1j.jpg, map is not included though)
This feature works with every model and can be adjusted with the lightning parameters. Also it can be modded! In data>common there is a texture called toon.bmp! You

Well, after five years and over six hundred and fifty individual pieces, we have both decided that the time has come to bring the Transformers: Mosaic project to an end. A number of reasons could be cited for drawing the project to a close, but ultimately, it was never going to last forever. We had a pretty good run, and it's just time to bow out.
It's been a true honor to watch the project which began as a humble collaboration on the IDW Forums grow to become a fandom institution, and even it's own genre of Transformers storytelling. The project enjoyed incredible support from the wider Transformers community, and even the stewards of the franchise itself. We've had the blessed opportunity to work with some talented and passionate people, and even played a small part in launching a few professional careers.
So, what does this mean for anyone currently working on a submission for the project?
Well, first off, the 'Transformers the Movie - Special Edition' sub

Back when I was a kid, CN used to have shows like Power Puff Girls, Dexter's Lab and Courage the Cowardly Dog which could have some moments of just outright idiocy but never came out right like they treated the audience as morons. Now, though, you have Uncle Granpa, the Annoying Orange, Teen Titans GO! and Mixels which just seem to be designed to be outright made to treat people like they are morons. Even some of the better shows on there like Adventure Time and Regular Show do come off that way half the time. And before these we had Flapjack, Chowder, Foster's Home, all of them seemingly slowly more and more incorporating more just flat out stupidity into their shows.
It bugs me for the same reason Will Ferrel in most of his movies bugs me: he usually has one character he often plays and that's playing a mental challenged person. I know this guy isn't though which is what feels insulting for him sort of making fun of them. Lego MOvie is o
Site Update: IE 8 No Longer SupportedWhat's NewSite Update: IE 8 No Longer Supported1 year ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
DeviantART no longer supports Internet Explorer 8
The Internet is an ever-changing place, and the new capabilities made available in major browser releases allow developers (at deviantART and elsewhere online) to build faster, more stable and secure technology.
When you use an outdated browser to visit deviantART — or any other site — the site doesn't always work as intended. We stop accepting bug reports for those browsers over time, as it's time consuming for our developers and hinders the advancement of the site as a whole.
For some time now, Internet Explorer 8 has made up a very small portion of traffic, yet contributed disproportionately to bug reports. With this in mind, we are henceforth dropping support for it.
We strongly encourage that you always use the latest version of your favorite browser, to ensure that you can see all the Web has to offer.
Do you really own the things you buy?If obliterating our human right to freedom of information wasn't bad enough, you will be shocked at what corporate copyright holders are doing now - Trying to deny you the ability to re-sell a used item you've bought! http://www.youvebeenowned.org/Do you really own the things you buy?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I have said it before and I'll say it again - Corporations have been trying to eliminate the used market. That's why they encourage consumers to buy digital downloads of media rather than hard copy CDs - digital media cannot legally be re-sold. But now it goes way beyond copyrighted media... They want to decide whether or not you have the right to sell your computer, your clothing, your car, even your house!
This is a gross miscarriage of justice and an immense violation of the rights of the American people... Please sign the letter to Congress asking that we reserve the right to re-sell used items: http://www.youvebeenowned.org/

Schoolwork copyright and seizing of med recordsThis has actually been going on for quite a while - the Board of Education enforcing personal copyright to students' work - but apparently it is finally starting to come into the light: http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20130201/12063221855/dea-circumventing-oregon-state-law-to-grab-medical-records-without-warrant.shtmlSchoolwork copyright and seizing of med records2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I was a victim of this myself when I was a school-age child. When I was about 13, I designed a device that used highly concentrated directional bursts of ionizing radiation inside a Faraday cage to separate specific electrons out of molecules and therefore break chemical bonds. I intended to use it to separate carbon from oxygen and eliminate CO2 from the atmosphere - a solution to what is considered to be a major world problem. Instead, the Board of Education decided that I had used school resources to come up with my design, and they took it from me and put it in the public domain, making it ineligible for patenting. No profit can come from it, and so no corporation wi

When I saw this news about the leaked emails last night, after being alerted by Greta Van Susteren’s show, I thought Obama’s goose was finally cooked. This is hard evidence that all the major bastions of power in Washington — Obama’s Situation Room, the FBI, State, everybody who matters, everybody who has been lying — knew within hours that Benghazi was under siege by a terrorist group in a pre-planned attack. Finally, the right “government source” had squealed loudly enough to expose the lies, the incompetence, the lies, the monumental disregard for the murders of four men as a result of shockingly weak securit

My initial response to the new character designs was 1: Someone is a big fan of Naruto with all those random bandages and 2: I'm really starting to hate DC now because everyone has gone reboot crazy since the new 52. There is NOTHING inherently wrong with these designs, they look FINE, the only problem is that people are ALWAYS going to react negatively when you change the look of an icon. Someone else's art style is one thing, but to change the character's inherent look is going to make people wonder why you didn't just make up a new IP and leave their favorite characters alone. So to sum up my opinion, new designs are okay, but the

1st up is the revival of the unchanged "Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act" (or CISPA for short)
CISPA is a bill simpler to SOPA that give the government the right to take your private information from any site on the internet and if after receiving this information they find anything they don't like they can convict for it. As for the people who handed over you're private information? Well because they handed it over they are immune to any possible legal issues that may pop up, for a more thorough explanation of CISPA see: http://youtu.be/UERicIJ2J5U (in short wile it PROBABLY won't cos your favourite site to

This is the internet, nobody will know at a glance that you're a young kid, so if you post anywhere you are going to be judged HARSHLY as if you are one of their peers. When you post proofread your sentences to make sure they're intelligible and be prepared to get replies from people who disagree with your opinion that include insults, harsh language, and swearing. This means getting your grammar straight, remember to check to make sure you're using the right "your" (You're means "you are," your means "that belongs to you," and if you use single letters to represent words like "u" and "r" people are going to assume that you are stupid or a total douche, that is a simple fact of life. Lastly, your web browser should have a spell checker built in, if you see a red line under on

Bad News...A major source of opposition to CISPA has stepped down, giving the government a good deal of reprieve when people like us and our fellow activists at Demand Progress have been working so hard to push them. More information here: http://rt.com/usa/news/white-cispa-security-house-535/comments/Bad News...3 years ago in Personal More Like This
This is bad news, but we cannot give up! Right now the government is getting their way. Even as a small entity, if we back down now they will believe that they can win every battle by taking down only the one strongest opposition. That kind of belief can be dangerous.
Please encourage as many people as you can to sign the petition: https://www.change.org/petitions/obama-administration-preserve-freedom-of-information If you live in the United States, call your senators and representative and ask them to oppose CISPA! Fax them, email them, organize a group and host a demonstration on the sidewalk! We cannot give up.

I saw this post going around on tumblr, warning about a virus being sent around on deviantART. I figured making a journal about it here would be more convenient for those who don't have tumblr, so I copy and pasted the message (and source) below.
If you get a note like this from this guy, ignore it. Delete it. If you ask what his daughter likes, he'll try sending you a very suspicious folder with random art in it, as well as a virus.
Please spread this around because someone who doesn't know any better can really wind up getting screwed over. Thank you!

This explains so much about recent Cartoon Network shows... >3>
For those that can't access the site, the basic story is Paul Dini discussing the network's recent policy of wanting the boy demographic for just about all their shows cause 'boys buy toys' and girls apparently don't. Its stupid and moronic and alienates a huge demographic for your ratings... sounds a lot like recent DC Comics...

Since seeing a trailer for it last spring I knew right away it would be great but man was it even better! Very cute, clever, beautiful animation, great humor, tons of hilarious gaming references, and a lot of heart. Everything you can expect from a good animated film!
SPOILERS AHEAD!!! STOP READING IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED!!
Unlike I usually tend to do, I actually didn't go onto Wikipedia and look up the plot for this film. Yes, I resisted the urge, so I was surprised with a lot of things in it but not disappointed! I had already known the overall plot for a while: a video game villain is tired of being the bad guy and wants to go out to see if he can be a good guy, but it's a lot more than that. Ralph actually does his 'heroic' act in the first half of the film not too long after the beginning. He tries to get a medal in the "Hero's Duty" (not that kin

Sonic Boom CartoonI'm excited for the new tv series Sonic Boom that's coming out in fall 2014, but I'm sort of disappointed on character design. When I saw Knuckles I was like damn is he on steroids! XD Not too worried about the series except how the characters may look. I hope they look appealing, I just hope they don't come out with super bug eyes. This genre's comedy so up for laughing. Amy Rose is is in it, so I'm totally watching! I hope she doesn't bug Sonic too much. lolSonic Boom Cartoon1 year ago in Personal More Like This
