passion into your profession. But there is a way of measuring your chances on being
able to get work and eventually sustain a living from it.
Accepting commissions or freelance for low payment won't help you. You can think any penny counts, but it will lower the worth of your work and damage the market.
How to measure that you are ready?
You probably have high goals, but they are usually not your first step. You must search out the clients who can be that first step. Often found in the card game industry, book cover illustrations and smaller game company's.
Look at the artwork shown by a company such as the card game company: Fantasy Flight games. Compare your skills with the average of their artworks. If it matches yours, you will have a chance. However, keep in mind that those artworks had been done in a limited timeframe, usually within 12 hour

Contest Theme: Gingitsune Kaen
That's this guy right here:
All entries in this competition must be pictures of this specific character, who has been voted the most attractive male member of my Bleach Universe by no small amount during a somewhat recent poll. I've been looking to buff up the art on him for some time. But I've been busy spreading the love around, which leaves me the perfect opening to exploit him for use as contest fodder! And exploit him I will!
Contest Dates/Timetable: March 1st to April 1st - Midnight to Midnight (EST)
The contest has officially started and will end on the stroke of midnight (EST) on April 1st. Placements will be announced and prizes will be delivered before April 10th, during which time myself and the other four judges will sort out the scores and votes and selec
GDD Interviews: Thiefoworld on Digital ArtHello everyone!GDD Interviews: Thiefoworld on Digital Art10 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Welcome to the third of many Community Volunteer interviews! Community Volunteers are responsible for many things here on DA, one of them being Daily Deviations. Since Daily Deviations are the focus of this group, we thought you might enjoy interviews of the folks in control of the features! The third edition is with Thiefoworld, our Digital Art CV, we hope you'll enjoy the read!
1. Why did you choose to become a CV? Is the job what you expected it would be?
Well this is actually my second time as a CV, the first time was back in 2009 for Comics & Cartoons, I went back in 2012 for Digital Art. In both cases it was because I love the community and wanted to contribute in some way, to give back a little of what it has given me. I love featuring people, making activities, posting articles, etc.
It was better than I expected, the team is incredibly friendly and embracing and we support each other and talk a

dA Life #08: Hosting a Contest on dAWelcome to the eighth dA Life blog, a series created to help you enjoy your time on dA and use it's many tools for sharing your art, appreciating other people's art and taking part in the wonderful community that we have here.dA Life #08: Hosting a Contest on dA3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Hosting a contest on dA is a really fun way to inspire other artists and do something positive for the community. If you've never run a contest before, it can seem like a daunting task so to make it a little easier, here are some things to consider before you create your contest and open it to the deviant public...
Your contest should have a theme. It can be as vague (Aliens, Summer, Cats) or as specific as you like (Alien Cats in Summer). When choosing your theme, take time to consider it's appeal to your potential entrants. A less specific theme is likely to attact more people as the scope for entries is wider. It depends on whether or not you want your contest to be huge - sometimes, bigger isn't always bet
USE Color to Enhance Your ExpressionWith this online art community, we have a unique opportunity to connect with our kindred. We must avail ourselves of this experience, for, once it's gone, it may never come again.USE Color to Enhance Your Expression2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's important to USE color, not just apply it to your art. Sometimes we overlook the role color plays in our illustration, particularly when it comes to sequential art. Comic books. Storytelling. It's not just for making the picture pretty. Over on Facebook earlier today, this topic came up in conversation with a good friend. I thought I might share an excerpt with you here on DA, inviting, as always, your comments as well.

So, as I said of tumblr, I want to thank everyone for their support! We collected almost 10000 through Indiegogo donation! I know it's far from what the goal is but don't worry! We are planing phase two of the campaign! We will not stop just because we didn't reach our goal out of a first try! We will fight until we finally get there!
To everyone who donated and shared the campaign: Thank you! Your support is what helped us get even this far, we really couldn't have done without you! ;u; As I said above, we will continue to fight until our goal is reached so we aren't stopping just yet!
I will update everyone once phase two starts and I will most likely reopen Special Order (and add new ideas for it). If I still owe you those, don't worry! I quite busy with the School Festival (which was a total success! The

And since tumblr has a following size that's a third of my dA, a lot of people may be missing my WIP shots. So I hope it won't bother anyone that I make and update journals that show my process. I hope you'll find them interesting and inspiring. And also, I hope people will stop asking me what program I work in lol on top of the fact that it's listed in my interests under Tools of the Trade, I've also had a FAQ made so please check those before asking questions. My art was stolen, now what?!You're casually browsing the internet when all of a sudden you see your art ripped on someone's myspace page, or elsewhere on the net, so what do you do?My art was stolen, now what?!9 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Well if you're an American citizen, you're protected under that infamous law known as the DMCA, or the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. If you right click your ripped image and select properties, youll be able to see the address where the image is hosted. If its photobucket or some other easily accessible site then you have it easy and you know where to go to find a support email address. If your image is hosted on a dot com, youll need to do a WhoIs search and the name server that is listed will usually give away the company that is physically hosting the site. You can then get in contact with most sites through a webmaster or support email if you take a quick look around their site.
So now you know where your image is, what company is hosting it, and how to get a hold of them, then you scratch your head and ask

EDIT: I ADDED NUMBER 3 IN CAUSE THAT WAS KIND OF AN IMPORTANT LESSON TOO. HAHA
Usually I am pretty quiet when it comes to the community and its dealings with drama . But I feel like I have to write my two cents about this topic.
A lot of people have been throwing around this post around about how art schools are terrible and are not worth it ya. I am sure you can find the article somewhere if you just google it . Though everyone is entitled to their own opinion I feel that I should talk about both sides of the coin when it comes to art school.
Now I have went to art school , and have done well for myself , I have worked internationally and worked for some big companies , and currently at the moment I actually teach at an art school as well.
SO THE ULTIMATE QUESTION: IS ART SCHOOL A WASTE OF TIME?
WELL THERE IS NO BLACK AND WHITE ANSWER
What I believe is that art school i
What's the Deal with Commissions? Something I've seen around Deviantart for awhile now, and I was curious as to what other people thought about it.What's the Deal with Commissions?1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
It seems so often I see many artists complaining that they cannot get anyone to commission artwork from them. They go to great lengths to try and sell their skills, and some even adjust their prices to next to nothing or DA points.
When people don't bite, they ask me, or on the forums, "What am I doing wrong? I only want 100 points and no one buys them"
There are many artists such as myself who sell art/prints etc etc because we rely on it as a part of our income, but many of these people still live at home, or are in school. So, 100 DA points ( for example), which is $1.25 , is not really going to help anyone with bills or rent, or much of anything else.
And yet, there they are over and over, very upset and depressed that no one buys commissions from them.
When artists ask me how they can better market their work so people will buy it,
Fear of Blank Canvas.I've been painting since I was quite young.Fear of Blank Canvas.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
But still, I am overwhelmed and intimidated once I am facing the vast 'whiteness' of a blank canvas.
Like Goliath to little David, the empty space challenges me and I recoil.
I think being a good painter is nothing other than to overcome this fear of blank canvas.
Just like Van Gogh said,
a good painter never fears the canvas;
The canvas fears him.
Important News on the MLP ComicIt looks to be pretty official, according to our editor, that the MLP comic has been pushed back two weeks to Nov 28 for street release date.Important News on the MLP Comic3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Before anybody gets upset (like one jerk on Twitter did), keep in mind the scope of this production: This is not a fanmade comic as some seem to think it is: This is a fully licensed comic book from a major Comic publisher done in cooperation with Hasbro. It is also one of the most highly anticipated comics for the entire fall/winter schedule. As such, we'd rather do it well than do it fast.
The orders for this book have far exceeded what was first anticipated, so a little more padding in the schedule is going to help to ensure the product can meet the demand
I also want to remind everyone: I am NOT The distributor/publisher... I just draw it. You cannot purchase the book directly from me. Here's some ground I've covered a number of times, but I keep getting asked... so here we go:
1. WHERE IS IT SOLD? This will be sold along all the other comics

7 TIPS FOR THE 21-YEAR-OLD ME by Bobby Chiu
When I was a student in college working on my skills as a character designer, I’d had periods where I would sit at my desk working as hard as I could but having little to show for my efforts at the end of the day. I remember sitting there surrounded by blank pieces of paper, trying to come up with an amazing style that nobody had ever seen before. I would do one drawing and not be satisfied, so I would lay a new piece of paper over it, re-draw it with slight changes to features here and there. This would still not be good enough so I would put another piece of paper over my revision, make more minor adjustments trying to perfect this new style I was searching for.
I did this for weeks on end, tweaking and polishing over and over, working hard every day. But in the end, did I come up with a brand new style, something amazing that
