Please welcome J.R.R. Tolkien expert and TheOneRing.net producer/writer Cliff Broadway (aka theoneringnet) as he shares his take on the man behind the beloved series of books. I decided to put my knowledge to use, for the benefit of our artistic community and all people out there trying to thrive.
As I've written in my ID, I'm a literature and language teacher. I've been working hard to get my master degree in French Literature and Narrative Theories, which will come latter this year.
And as for this, I thought I could be at your service to read your literature deviations and post you honest constructive critics based on the best of world wide letters!
But I have to be clear about one thing: I am not the kind of person that only say what you might want to hear.
I will never be rude or disrespectful BUT... it is needed of me to say sometimes things you may not agree or accept.
If you ask me for a critic don't be upset if I eventually point an aspect of your composition that needs to be improved.
I'm sure that it's not

Golden Age of IllustrationArt History WeekGolden Age of Illustration1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
The 19th century marks a huge technology development, with printing techniques improving enough to make newspapers and books a truly mass-popular medium. Along with that, there appeared new opportunities for the illustrators. In the second half of the 19th century, the popularity of illustrated books and magazines reached the highest level recorded by that time and it eventually became the foundation to border the official beginning of the Golden Age of Illustration's timespan: 1880's. Formally it lasted until 1910's-1920's, with variations between Europe and North America.
The core illustrators lived a long time after this period and continued creating pictures in their style - which is defined as typical for the Golden Age. However, new styles and the slow decrease of popularity of book and newspaper illustrations (supported by the rising popularity of photography) after the World War determined the formal end of this age. The European illustrators were influenced mo
YAY HOBBIT!Just returned from the midnight viewing of The Hobbit. And no, I did not dress up. All I had was The One Ring I got from an old Lord of the Rings bookmark and put it on a chain. I believe that small token at least satisfied the god of Tolkien nerdyness.YAY HOBBIT!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm not going to say much about the movie other than my overall opinion, for I don't want to spoil anything for anyone. I had only a few severe dislikes about the movie, but for the most part I greatly enjoyed it. And I really very much want the soundtrack. :iconheeplz:
And now I am putting myself to bed.

"NEVER SEEN BEFORE" - big Tolkien themed contest
Details in MirachRavaia's own words:
I recently got a comment on my art which made me realize that there are many scenes and characters in Tolkien's book which almost never get illustrated, while you can find hundreds of illustrations for others. Just a few examples would be
- the events during the Scouring of the Shire
- the Ringbearers arriving and living in Valinor
- Galadriel living in Eregion or passing through Moria to Lórien
- Pippin exploring Minas Tirith with Bergil
- the "lesser known" kings of Gondor and Númenor and Chieftains of Dúnedain
- Túrin attacking Glaurung in front of Nargothrond's gates BEFORE the dragon's look paralyzed him
For this contest, you need to find one that you have NEVER seen illustrated before. I won't give you more examples so you can think of your own, but feel free
March Update and Feature~Critique FolderMarch Update and Feature~2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The Critique Folder journal will go live shortly after this one. Anyone that submits their work to that journal will have their work displayed in the Critique Journal for some time so that group members can offer input. So keep an eye out for that!
I'm a bit too busy with my degree and business to do be the only one doing submitted critiques so that system is changing. If you need a critique, please submit your query to the group via that folder like usual and a journal will be updated weekly so that group members can help with critiquing. Hoping this new system allows for more varied input. (:

Infos about the abandoned locationsI know that a lot of you are curious to get more information about the abandoned places in my photos and I receive a lot of questions about them.Infos about the abandoned locations3 years ago in Personal More Like This
There is a reason that I don't give any though. I do love abandoned buildings, I see so much beauty in those places. Unfortunately, many people don't.
I do act very respectful inside those places, but there are too many idiots out there that don't behave like me.
I've seen so much vandalism, theft and other bad things happening to those buildings after they have become popular, that I will do all I can to protect those beauties.
Therefore, I don't give any infos about the location (not even the country) or history about them since every little piece of info makes it easier for people to find it.
I'll gladly help you with any info about all non-decay related shots, but there is no chance I tell anything about the decaying beauties. No exceptions.
Please respect that and don't post any info in the comments, they will be deleted without warning.

[GUIA] HTML no DAAve! :iconkittydividerredplz:[GUIA] HTML no DA3 years ago in Personal More Like This
For the fellow Snaiad fans!I have an idea that I'd like to explore! There has been a bit of a lack of Snaiad related artwork around here lately, so I think I'd like to invoke some fan-art creativity with this "contest".For the fellow Snaiad fans!8 months ago in Personal More Like This
Okay, so it's not really a contest, 'cause there's nothing to win, but I think it would be fun if we came up with artwork of Snaiadi citizens interacting in some way with the planet's local fauna. Like, for example, we have humans playing with their pets, visiting creatures at a zoo, tending to a sick/injured creature, taking biological surveys, or even getting attacked by a Snaiadi creature! The idea for this came from the fact that there isn't a whole lot of Snaiad art involving interaction with either the creatures or the environment.
So anyway, if anybody is interested in doing this, I'd be really excited to see what you come up with! I wish I could offer some kind of prize, but maybe just the satisfaction of creating something like this would be enough.
Contest Time: Nr. 4Alright, so we've had crossovers with movies, we even had our favourite tunes mixed with our favourite show. After that we took the director part and made our very own Episode with all the monsters, weapons and places we heard of. It was all great, right?Contest Time: Nr. 43 years ago in Personal More Like This
But secretly, we would like a crossover with our other TV Shows we watch. Because next to Supernatural, we all have our other series we watch and love. And have we not thought about what it would be like if Daryl Dixon met Dean Winchester? Have we not imagined how it would be like if the Winchester Brothers were after a shapeshifter only to discover it was Dexter doing his rituals? Or how Sam Winchester investigates a murder in the Dunphy house?
Well, here is your chance to mix Supernatural with any other TV Show you would like! Any TV Show goes, any situation is possible, any place, any time and any character.
Your entry must contain at least one character of Supernatural and o

Tolkien Illustrator’s First Aid Kit: Elves
Tolkien’s texts are notable for their abundance of characters, many of them mentioned perhaps only once, other playing very important parts in the stories. However, it is often very difficult to find any description of how those characters look, and this is what we, artists and illustrators, are usually most concerned with.
So here it is – Tolkien Illustrator’s First Aid Kit – a list of all those characters, whose physical appearance is mentioned in the texts, including The Silmarillion and The History of the Middle-earth.
To start with, the Elves. As we know, during the march from Cuiviënén t
New Book Project IdeaGreetings my friends:New Book Project Idea2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've had this idea for a long time to do a middle-earth version of those beautiful old victorian-style "historic costume" picture books. I've been doing a few "plates" lately, in a pen-and-marker style that I find is alot quicker and easier for me than pencil.
here are a few
I'd like to keep going with these, with the (VERY long term) aim of covering all or most of the times, cultures, ages, and styles of middle-earth's long long history. alot of them will just be generic costume design plates, depicting the styles of dress and/or armament from a certain time and place, like the numenorean armors, and others will be of particular famous characters like glorfindel and ecthelion above (turin with his swiped elven maille and

I know I keep contradicting myself. I originally said I had no need for a dA journal (since I have a LiveJournal). But I think I've really wanted to do something like this for awhile. And given it's heavily art related... Some of these artists I feel produce stunning work yet go a bit under appreciated. Well, here is the place to appreciate them! New pieces will be featured at least weekly or monthly, it'll depend. If you'd like to be featured for anything (I'm not just going to limit to HP fan art, this is only the first) and I see your work is quality effort, all you need is ask.
Please comment to/ the original work.
