Middle-earth in picturesMiddle-earth is a world created by J.R.R.Tolkien, one of the most complex creations and foundations of classic fantasy. Many artists are inspired by this amazing world, and there are not many events in its history that escaped a painter's brush... I bring you a short (yes, I call this short ) summary of the events, in a more or less chronological order:Middle-earth in pictures4 years ago in Art Features More Like This

The Beginning of The Lord Of The Rings
We’ve all had at least one special book that we’ve loved and reread but when it comes to books that have defined and influenced us that list becomes much smaller. On most peoples lists J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic work The Lord of The Rings would be at the top of the list.
Without it many of the artists and writers we kno
USEFUL STUFFHere's some nice useful things to check out (if you havent already) that i like to look at to improve or just watch for inspirationUSEFUL STUFF9 months ago in Personal More Like This
FYI i learn more from watching things so most of these are gonna be video tutorials, artists talking while painting and timelapse paintings, since i prefer analyzing peoples workflow and try it out than straight tutorials that tell you what to do (not there's anything wrong with it though )
LEVEL UP: https://www.youtube.com/user/levelupsessions
omg.... the amount of stuff you can learn from these amazing artists is crazy! i suggest watching from session 1 till the latest. you cant miss a thing these guys say, plus these guys are pretty fun most of the time. its a nice light, but informative bunch of videos
Marc Brunet is a great teacher! i really enjoy how he explains things and just his process in general. really good to listen to and pretty entertaining to watch
2000 Watchers Q and A!To celebrate hitting 2000 watchers, I asked you guys to send me your questions. Here is the result:2000 Watchers Q and A!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
1. Why did you set up this account?
When I set up my dA account (original username: DinsenchantedDestroya) I got it because I'd heard good things from other websites. It looked like a great creative community that I really wanted to be a part of. I had the account for nearly half a year before I got the guts to post something.
2. Have your pieces gotten the reactions you wanted?
I never really want a specific reaction, I just get what I'm given and am thankful for it. However, when my work gets praise or starts a conversation or maybe even gets others writing, then I consider that as having reached my goal.
3. Where do you get most of your inspiration?
Usually in bed when I'm trying to go t

Happy National Day of Silence!First of all, you may be wondering... Olivia, why the fuck aren't you in school?Happy National Day of Silence!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'll tell you why!
So I came to school in ripped blue skinny jeans, a Killjoys shirt, my hair sprayed, streaked blue and pink, and silver duck tape over my mouth. I also wrote BISEXUAL FOR 14 YEARS... MAYBE IT'S JUST A PHASE...
My friend, Reilly, she gave me blue duck tape so I wore that instead.
First period RAC class, I participated in class by writing on a white board.
Second period, in Art, my teacher told me it was against the rules to wear ducktape and I had to take it off.
He sent me to the principals office, so I left the room, and in the hallway, I got ducktape, taped a paper to my chest that said I GOT IN TROUBLE FOR WEARING DUCK TAPE.
A few people read it.
Anyways, in the principal's office, well, technically AP's office, he made me sit down and he talked to me.
I answered him, but mostly asked questions with just writing stuff down. I can't remember exactly wha

Hobbit ConHey there,Hobbit Con1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I’ve been asked to submit some pictures from the HobbitCon2.
Unfortunately, most of the rather few pictures I made are quite crappy for I asked too much of my simple camera.
Also my best friend, who went with me, said if I submit any pictures featuring her, there will be trouble.
And when a gnome like me made any pictures from the stage, there were always quite a lot of heads in the way, plus I forgot completely to make any photos on the first day.
So have mercy on the little I can show you.

Excuse me, I thought this was a Community This is not in response to any one person or recent event. It is something I have been meaning to express my thoughts on for some time. However, I have lightly touched on it before.Excuse me, I thought this was a Community4 years ago in Personal More Like This
At first 'surprise' is the word I would have used but I think now its more of a fascination and curiosity when deviantART puts out new features such as llama badges, cake badges, Groups, points, and so forth. There is always something of a this-is-destroying-dA (or the like) response.
I am aware that change will most always be met with some level of hostility. To some it appears that these features make the art mean less. I can't see that. The ART in deviantART comes second but is in caps - ART will for always be the core root of this site. Is ART all that defines an Artist? No, we are all deviant too.
It is the beautifully elegant combination of
that forms this sense of Community we have here

Cuba by albercriso
One of the rare places on the planet where art has not greatly benefited from the Internet, and the free expression its unfettered discussion encourages, has been Cuba.
The official U.S. economic embargo of Cuban goods has been in place since 1960, making the sale of art to wealthy American investors a hassle involving shipping through third

What's Hot (Beta): Trending Artwork on deviantART
With the vast amount of artwork on deviantART, it can be easy to miss something, and it's common for artwork to get a spike of traffic long after it was originally submitted. Our new “What’s Hot” browse mode surfaces artwork that’s receiving a recent increase in exposure, regardless of when it was submitted.
Prize List (Updated 10/17)As you know, almost a month ago we had talk here in the group about an upcoming contest (our very first!). And indeed, that contest is now getting into it's final stages of being written up and double-checked, but we've come across a problem: we need more prizes!Prize List (Updated 10/17)3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The contest is set up so there shall be three spot winners: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd (But everyone will be mentioned and given recognition for their participation within the group and contest). For each spot, we need donations of llamas, features, points, sketches, and any other thing that you as a member of our lovely group are able to put forth!
So, as this-is-an-outrage is working on the fine details and rules for such an event, this blog entry is focused on getting as many prizes as possible!
SUPER EDIT: Oh lord people, I cannot even begin to thank you enough! Just after a few days, we already have a good pool of prizes coming through! But this doesn't mean that other people can't keep adding to the pot; keep up the
