She had spent the whole morning bucking apples from the trees of her family’s orchard and had decided to take some time for herself. “How do you expect to beat me at the next iron pony competition if you can’t even handle this orchard?” asked the cyan Pegasus with the hexachromatic mane.
“Rainbow Dash! How dare you! Ah woke up at the call of the rooster this morning just so ah’d be able to get this work done before the sleepover at Twilight’s tonight,”
“Hey, hey take it easy AJ, I was only teasing, besides the reason I’m here is to show you this awesome trick I came up with,” exclaimed Rainbow Dash. “It will have to impress the wonderbolts with its awesomeness.” Applejack rolled her eyes.

Twilight cast the spell on Applejack, merging her mind with that of the comatose Pegasus Rainbow Dash, in an effort to wake up Rainbow from her coma. The coma was a result of a brutal attack by Rainbow's former friend Gilda, the griffin. Twilight slumped down, exhausted from the effort of casting such a difficult spell. Fluttershy flew over and helped her up.
"Are you okay Twilight?" Asked the timid yellow Pegasus, Twilight nodded to indicate that she was okay. The others that had gathered in Rainbow's hospital room breathed a sigh of relief. Twilight's friends had all gathered to give Twilight support; there was Fluttershy, The white Unicorn Rarity, the pink earth pony Pinkie Pie and Applejack's Brother and Fluttershy's coltfriend Big Mackintosh.
"So what do we do now Twi." Asked Big Mac, his voice full of concern for his little sister, Fluttershy flew over and hugged him.
"We do the only thing we can; we wait." Said Twilight, she had originally intended to go into Rainbow's mind to r

Twilight was breathing heavily as she chased the Griffin Prince Alistair through the narrow back streets of the Griffin capitol city of New Grifburg. Her white and red hood and cloak flapped in the wind and Twilight could just see the barest glint of the knife embedded in Alistair's wing joint, preventing him from taking off and escaping her. She had been sent by Princess Celestia to assassinate the prince, and at first, she believed it was only to destabilise their society with the absence of the Griffin emperor Gregor, but after spending some time amongst the city's denizens, she came to the conclusion that her mission was in fact to save them all from the tyranny of the prince's regime. Alistair changed direction abruptly, heading up some stairs that were attached to the side of a building. Twilight followed, never letting him out of her sight for more than a second. He dived over the railing, landing on a gravel covered rooftop. Twilight didn't hesitate, leaping over the side. Her

Near the centre of town sat a large tree. It had originally been the town hall during Ponyville's early years. More recently, however, the tree house had become Ponyville's library. It was a place of peace in times of trouble and much to the residents' dismay, it was often damaged. The tree was bathed in the golden light of the morn, making the frost on the leaves sparkle like the stars. These were the same stars that the tree house's sole occupant, the unicorn Twilight Sparkle, had spent most of the night gazing at. Twilight turned over as the sunlight filled the room, trying to catch a few more minutes of sleep before she had to begin repairs on the hole in the ceiling that Twilight's Pegasus friend Rainbow Dash had made the day before. Normally she would have fixed it

Rainbow Dash woke up on the wispy cloud she had come to rest on, with Celestia’s dawn sun warming her back. She dropped down from her high perch and flew back to her cloud home, and to her wife, Applejack. On the way there, her mind went back to the day before, and the imposter that had tried impersonating Applejack. The news that the imposter had brought her was troubling, distracting and hard to swallow. The imposter had told Rainbow that her whole world was a lie and Rainbow was beginning to doubt herself. The imposter had seemed so sincere, so genuinely concerned about Rainbow that she couldn’t get her out of her mind. She arrived at her home to find Applejack making a batch of Apple pancakes, Rainbow’s favourite.
‘Yuck, I wanted blueberry,’ thought Rainbow for a fleeting moment. She sat down and ate without talking to Applejack. Applejack however, talked the whole time; about the girls, the farm, how much she loved Rainbow. Rainbow was onl

Rainbow Dash stood enraged against the imposter; an exact duplicate of her wife, in all ways but the dark orange wings that Applejack now had. What was worse, the imposter had attacked her at her own home, an act of war in Rainbow’s book.
“Oh IT…IS…ON,” threatened Rainbow, the imposter was rubbing her neck after the strange attack that had knocked Rainbow onto her back.
“Please Rainbow, it’s me, Applejack, your best friend,” pleaded the imposter, beginning to tear up. “Ah know that this is hard to believe, but ya really are in a coma. Me and Big mac saved you from Gilda. You are in the Ponyville hospital, surrounded by your friends.”
“I’m gunna stop you right there, Gilda? You think Gilda attacked me. Wow she must be pretty determined to have come back from the dead,” said Rainbow mockingly.
“What do you mean dead?” asked the imposter, her eyes had widened and she began to back away from Rainbow

Applejack’s eyes were red from crying, and her mane was dishevelled and unwashed. She ran her hoof through the mane of a comatose Rainbow Dash, her true love and best friend.
“So the girls told me that Big Mac and Fluttershy are getting close, which is good, they both deserve to be happy,” Applejack told her, hoping that her voice would bring Rainbow back into reality.
“And apparently, Spike and Rarity and been seen together a lot,” she smiled weakly at the thought. “Oh Rainbow, ah wish you would just come back to me.” Realizing just how tired she was, Applejack laid her head down on Rainbow’s chest, but as her eyes began to close, she was startled awake by the excited calls of Twilight.
“Applejack! Applejack! Guess what! I think I may have found a way to bring Rainbow back to us,” she smiled, a look of pride upon her face. Applejack sat up straight and looked at Twilight in disbelief.

‘What! I’m never up this early on my days off,’ she thought, but she knew that it wasn’t true; for the past few months she had been struggling to sleep and even not wanting too at all.
‘Why am I thinking these things, having these dreams, Applejack is my best friend, this..is..wrong.’ These thoughts kept going through her mind as she struggled to make sense of them.
‘I-I need to tell Applejack about this,’ and with that thought in mind she opened her wings and flew at top speed out of her house, leaving her signature rainbow trail behind her. She never got tired of flying, the speed, the adrenaline, the unerring freedom, but today she had trouble enjoying herself, not with this huge weight hanging on her shoulders.

Applebloom couldn't see more than a few hooves in front of her. The snow was too thick; it blinded her. She tried to squint through the billowing whiteout in an attempt to see the trail ahead of her, but to no avail. She was growing disoriented. She hadn't been able to see any part of the ground save a featureless, white blanket since they had left the ice-choked river. It had been nothing short of miraculous that they had found the bridge over the stream in the first place, having only just managed to stumble across it after leaving Sugarcube Corner.
Applebloom was thinking more and more that they should have never stopped at the bakery in the first place. Pinkie Pie had, of course, tried to fill them up with as many free sweets as she could, but this was of little comfort to the fillies now. The snow had only started falling when they were inside, and Applebloom knew that they had had enough time to make it home before the blizzard began. The window had been open just enou

Rainbow Dash's nose twitched. This was an involuntary movement, more of a reflex than anything else, brought on by the perceived presence of something bothering her face. To the barely-conscious pegasus, the sensation was strange. If she had been able to think about it, she would have thought that something was brushing against her closed eyelid. As a last-ditch effort to retain her sleep, her hoof lifted to the level of her eyes in a half-conscious attempt to remove the irritant. Unfortunately, this action had little effect as the slowly-waking pony soon found herself waving her hoof around in front of her face in a dazed early-morning stupor, futilely attempting to ward off the encroachments of the sun as its light streamed in through the window, falling across her still-closed eyes. Groggily, Rainbow Dash's eyelids slowly blinked open, taking in the extent of the bright early-morning light for the first time. She was momentarily confused, groaning and closing her eyes aga

Rainbow Dark lay on the ground, the surprising strength of the orange pony had caught her off guard, and now she was hurting because of it. She looked up to see the pony’s accomplice, a grey Pegasus entirely clad in silver armour, come hurtling out of Rainbow Dark’s cloud mansion and crash in front of the orange pony. Following her was Rainbow Dark’s wife, Applejack, her mane and tail ablaze.
‘Oh you two are going to get it now,’ she thought, smiling to herself. She looked down at the orange pony, who suddenly vanished and reappeared in the air next to Applejack. The orange pony punched Applejack, who fell to the ground, followed by an enormous bolt of lightning that seemed to come from the orange pony’s hoof. The light was blinding and Rainbow Dark had to turn away to protect her eyes and when she looked back, the orange pony was on the ground, one of her front hooves was blackened from the heat of the lightning. Twilight awoke long before the others, and decided to take a walk in the morning air. Tightening the straps that held her cloak in place, so as to keep herself warm in the winter air. She was having trouble adjusting to the climate of New Grifburg, where the snow only begun to fall halfway through the season. But even then, it was still just as cold. Sticking to the rooftops so as not to be noticed, Twilight headed toward the docks and watched the ships come into the harbour. She lowered her hood and sat on the edge of a building, allowing her mind to wander back to Equestria, and to her friends. A smile spread over her lips as she thought of Ponyville and all of the good times that seemed so far away to her now. Her cheeks turned red as she remembered what had happened just before Princess Celestia teleported her to New Grifburg. Her friend, Pinkie Pie, had kissed her, and much to Twilight's utter surprise, she had enjoyed it. Twilight had never thought of romance before, and up until

Applejack's eyes were watering as the air bit at her skin, becoming almost razor sharp as she ran faster than the speed of sound. Her vision was hazed, the landscape of Equestria and all of its varied colours melding into a beautiful cacophony of light and colour. Applejack knew that it was only a mixture of luck and reflexes that was keeping her from colliding with anything along the road and becoming just an orange stain on the ground. As she approached Maneflow Springs, she took as deep a breath as she could and shot through the small town, maneuvering herself so that she had more space by running along the docks. Behind her, light, random objects were being dragged along in her wake, along with the occasional pony. Applejack ignored it all, focussing on getting herself to Rainbow's side and rescuing her friends from the assault of diamond dogs. Breaking clear of the town's borders, Applejack slowed down just enough so that all of the objects that she had inadvertently collected wer

Twilight was searching through all of the hidden pockets in her outfit when Max finally awoke from his tranquiliser induced slumber. She giggled to herself as his groggy form lifted off the ground and promptly fell back down, his eyes crossed and his tongue rolling around uselessly in his mouth.
"Whad habbened? Whad time is it?" Asked Max, once again trying and failing to stand. Twilight walked over and helped him to his feet, leading him to a chest in the corner of a room. Max sat down and took long, deep breaths, eventually regaining full control over his body. Twilight told him of her encounter with Archangel and the subsequent drugging of Max. He stretched his wings, and Twilight got a good look at her new companion. He was a smaller than average griffin, his wings tipped with a healthy brown colour, and his talons were much less sharp than Twilight was used to.

With every fading heartbeat, the prey let a little more of red fluid flow from the open wound in their neck. A scowl crossed her lips at the thought of the fluid that sustained her being wasted. With a growl, she started walking back to her nest, the first warm slivers of sunlight beginning to break over the surrounding hills. Applejack adjusted the wide-brimmed purple hat that sat on her head and took a deep breath, watching as her family prepared for a battle that would decide the very fate of Ponyville. In the distance stood the largest building in Ponyville, the town hall that rested in the centre of town. At the moment however, it looked more akin to a fortress than a place to pay fines. The police that had surrounded the building were quaking in fear as uncountable amounts of arrows and magical fireballs assaulted them from the Minotaur and traitorous police that hid inside. Looking out over the battle from the balcony on the top floor was Flame, leader of the gangs that had taken over Ponyville. The smirk on Flame's face made her wish that her powers were working so that she could teleport up there and wipe it off his face. Applejack spotted the Police chief hiding behind Roseluck's florist, as the fire department tried desperately to save the stores and homes from the fireballs.

Rainbow Dash pulled Applejack closer, savouring her marefriend as they shared their first real kiss. She let Applejack's warmth console her, still distraught over recent events. Applejack pulled away, her green eyes looking deep into Rainbow's and smiled.
"How does it compare to the dream?" asked Applejack and Rainbow giggled.
"I don't want to ever stop." Said Rainbow, smiling wide. She kissed Applejack again, softer this time, not ever wanting the moment to end. Rainbow jumped as a flash of light appeared behind Applejack. She flipped her over, trying to protect Applejack, as the light dimmed, leaving a pony covered by a white and red hood and cloak.
"Who Who are you?" asked Rainbow, frightened of the stranger. The stranger made her way over to the two frightened ponies. She lowered her hood, revealing a very familiar purple unicorn.

The grey tinged snow melted slowly in the windowsill as the new spring sun shone through the stained glass windows in the church tower, filling the octagonal room with a mix on blue, green and red colours. Twilight was pleased that winter had ended, so that she could make a bigger effort on helping the city, without the threat of her horn freezing off. Her new friends were also pleased, as it meant that New Grifburg would soon be having its annual Spring festival, an event that brought together the rich and the poor in the name of mutual celebration of the end of Winter and the upcoming season of hatchlings. Max and Jean had informed Twilight of the significance of the event, as it was only in the spring and summer months that Griffin eggs would hatch. They also told her that only a handful of griffins had even been born out of season, two of which were Prince Alistair and Princess Gilda. It was a time of peace for the griffins, one of the few times during the year when they would call

Well, I did what Tia said, 'Start a journal of your thoughts and feelings now that you are back.' I suppose she is right, it might help me to collect myself, focus on things, not to mention the fact that it will be good to have a record of my progress. I mean, I do have over a thousand years of Equestrian history to catch up on.
I just wish the spell that Tia gave me wouldn't change what I'm saying into so called 'Modern Equestrian.' Lazy and stupid if you ask me.
Well I suppose I should start by saying hello, or should I? I'm the only one that's meant to read this aren't I? I shouldn't have to say that my name is Luna and I am Princess of Equestria, what point does that serve other than to stroke my ego and create vanity within my heart. But it is strange to be sitting here in the dark with nothing but the glow of the magic and a single candle to help me see what I'm doing.
I like the dark, it is my element after all, but there is something about it now that feels… off. I

The endless sky opened up, the wind was strong, but not so strong as to throw off any flying. Rainbow Dash smiled as she looked at the ground below, Equestria, in all of her timeless beauty lay beneath her. Rainbow saw Ponyville in the distance, as well as cloudsdale and the royal city of Canterlot which was a dot on the side of a mountain. She dropped into a steep dive, placing both hooves out in front of her, gathering speed.
Rainbow felt the intense pressure build up inside her head, then, when it seemed like it was too much, Rainbow broke the sound barrier and the pressure subsided. The sonic rainboom tore through the sky, vaporising any clouds that it hit, while behind the cyan Pegasus, a beautiful and perfect rainbow was drawn. Using this, Rainbow quickly started her complex pattern; zigzags, loops and flips. When the trail ended, Rainbow flew down to the stage on the ground, striking a pose as the replica of her cutie mark branded into the sky shone in the light of the sun.

The shockwave rippled up her arm as her hoof collided with the cheek of a griffin guard. Twilight's mane and tale were ablaze with magical fire; mostly for show, it was just an illusion to make herself look more intimidating. Her entire body was covered in magical armour; plates of glowing magenta energy that defected nearly any blow. Around the knees of her hind legs and going all the way up her legs and spine was a complex mechanical system of Twilight's own design. It supported her knees and back so that she could stand upright, much like Pinkie Pie after her bout of brainwashing. It was both a huge strain on her body and her magic. The spell used up a surprising amount of energy and with Twilight already exhausted from her earlier fight, she was struggling to keep it stable.

Twilight rubbed her bloodshot eyes as she stood in front of what remained of the mirror in the cathedral's bathroom. Hours and hours of crying over the loss of her mentor, Princess Celestia, had left her physically and mentally weak. Her companions, the master thief Archangel and the Griffin twins Max and Jean had been sent by Twilight on a mission to gather supplies and any information that might be useful. The main reason she wanted them gone was because Twilight didn't want them to see her in what she considered a vulnerable state. Looking back into the mirror, Twilight couldn't help but remember Celestia's face, and how her disfigured eye and scar was a part of her because of the loyalty she felt toward the princess. Twilight had fought in the war not just for her friends or for the safety of Equestria; she fought because she didn't want to let down Celestia. Celestia's sun shone brightly up in the pale blue sky, sending arcing beams of light down through the air to illuminate the scene. Every cloud shone with the bright white of pure sunlight reflecting off of water droplets. The densely packed formations of water droplets floated lazily in place. Each formation was a place where a pegasus pony could stop and rest, and none were as large as the collection of clouds which safely held hundreds of ponies in the air at once. From the weather factories to the Cloudesium, the city of Cloudsdale was a floating metropolis for the the winged citizens of Equestria.
At this moment, dozens of those winged citizens were gathered in the Cloudesium, attending a very special event, an event featuring ten pegasus ponies who all stood nervously in a row, lined up next to one another in front of a stage made of clouds. Applejack was shaken awake by Derpy, who had clad herself in shiny steel armour. Her cutie mark was made of gold and her wings were bladed.
“Wake up AJ, it’s time to go,” she said, with a seriousness in her voice that unnerved Applejack.
“Hey Derpy, do you really think that armour is necessary? “asked Applejack. Derpy looked at her with a small smile
“Applejack, you don’t really think I’d go into a fight without armour, especially a fight like this do you?” she asked jokingly. A thought occurred to Applejack, one that made her feel sick.
“Derpy, what happens to you if you don’t survive this fight?” she asked, suddenly becoming worried when she saw Derpy’s head dropped.
“If I don’t make it, Rainbow’s mind will just choose a new avatar for me, but in real life, Rainbow won’t know who I am, and the aspects of her I represent may be diminished,” she replied quietly.
