I had a recurring dream as a child about a mummy my father said used to live in his attic when he was a child. I never saw its face in the dreams though. I'd always wake up before it got that close to me. To get to the attic, you had to go through a long dark closet and there was only a dimly lit light bulb hanging halfway in. All the way at the back of the closet was the door to the attic. It was terrifying as a child.
Years later, a friend of mine made up this character called the Greeper. It is a skulking, elusive and vicious creature that prefers dark spaces. For some reason, I tied the mummy and the Greeper together into one being.

My entry for the MAMA Scared Stiff Contest. My greatest fear as a child, as a teenager, and creeping into my adult life, is spiders. Or a spider. Anything remotely close to resembling a spider. Pieces of lint in the semi-shape of a spider... Anywho, this piece took me FOREVER to finish because I wanted to research what different spiders looked like. And let me tell you, Google Image searching "scary spiders" for anyone who's arachnophobic is a HORRIBLE idea! But it's done! I hope you like it, or it creeps you out. Either or. Crits welcome! Thanks!

darkness is cancer of the imagination.
it can mutate into anything. nothing is more frightening than that which the imagination can conjure.

sometimes the dark is enough to be afraid of..

Entry for Mama Scared Stiff contest....obviously. Wish the picture could have turned out darker but this will have to do. Done with mostly charcoal. A little bit of colored pencils here and there. Enjoy.

Rhizoma is a Latin word for a certain root. the Rhizoma is a mute creature that can be found at the edge of dense forests watching the sunset. once the sun sets it lurks the dark forests unseen searching for blood. the Rhizoma mostly stands still and lifeless like a tree until you turn your back. when it gets close enough it uses its roots to grow into your skin and deep into your veins and absorb your fluids from the inside out. no one has ever spotted the Rhizoma during the morning. it is believed that it burrows and divides into the ground as ordinary roots during the morning and waits for sunset to reform. there have been stories however of this creature sneaking into unsuspecting peoples houses near the woods and absorbing small children in their sleep leaving only their clothes behind on their beds. the motive behind this creature's actions is unknown but it is known to be very dangerous.

last night, the door opened wrong. like a dog door.
and through the impossible angle, with a fanfare of horrid bending, and wishing, rawhead leaked through
