My Thesis will focus on the influence of a group of sites known collectively as the *chans, and their activities and acts, from their internet raids, hacking and invasions, the belief in free speech and destruction of mainstream taboos, NFL bomb threat hoax of 2006, the rise and proliferation of the song Chocolate Rain by Tay Zonday, the World-wide Scientology Protests, their formation, rise and hegemony over internet culture and various other actions. This paper will attempt to argue the idea that the existence of these sites is a good thing, an evolution and advantage rather than a bad thing.
