Now, I don't know about you, but I'm quite happy with technology these days. My computer does everything that I want it to do, at a pretty good speed; my Dad has a fancy camera, but more importantly, he lets me use it; then there's various other gadgets of the 21st century, like 3D TVs and smartphones, and they're all pretty awesome.
And yet, it is often the case that we look back into the past, at, say, my parents' generation. They didn't have the luxury of computers, their cameras relied on film instead of pixels, and things like 3D were unheard of. Compared to our current living standards today, it's easy to think that life was 'hard' back then - but they lived through it quite happily. Perhaps, while they were writing letters instead of texts, they felt grateful that they had a postage system at all. Thanks muchly for all the birthday messages! A total of five people sent me the Arrogant Worms Happy Birthday song, which is a new record! (In case you're unaware, this is the song I send to everybody on their birthday.)
Anyway, I've had a very eventful three weeks, but after each day I kept wondering, "Is this journal-worthy? Hm... nah, I won't bother." That included a two-day engineering course, receiving a Gold Award at the National Concert Band festivals (as part of an ensemble, of course), and four days' work experience at Rolls-Royce. The past two days, however... I feel I'm obliged to write about them, no?

I should probably provide some back story instead of just spazzing out. I received the Premium Membership via a deviantArt promotion. This promotion involved asking people who already had Premium Memberships to suggest a friend who was worthy of one, and as a result both would receive a 1-year Premium Membership. Everyone in New England sure loves snow.
Yep.
Boy do we love snow. We love it so much we get it while the trees still have leaves on them, thus weighing down the branches and causing even thick branches to snap off and crash to the ground, young saplings to bend over so their branches nearly touch the ground, and power outages across the town. Luckily, I've been spared the last of that triplet. For now. We'll see how long that lasts...the lights have been flickering for a while now. And it's been snowing here since around 11am and it hasn't let up.
Welp.
We sure do love snow here.
Pokemon X and YOk, I saw the video and wow, its just... beautiful :') it's the type of Pokemon game I've been waiting for to see. However at the same time I feel so sad because I don't have a 3DSPokemon X and Y4 months ago in Personal More Like This
You'd think I'd have the money soon with my b-day just a week away, but think again, I'll be lucky to get $60 let alone the $150+ needed for a 3DS. I may be turning 16 but we still aren't rich enough to do stuff like that, as I've said to my friend "I'm lucky to have even $20"
But I don't know whether to be happy because of the new Pokemon game or cry because I can't play it. Also it was brought to my attention that apparently there are now a total of 666 existing Pokemon, can someone say creepy-pasta? (:

On one hand, the maths nerd in me loves the numbers. Statistics are unquestionable, virtually tangible and coldheartedly true. Anyone can view them and know that they're free of bias, and it gives a superficial indication of where that person fits in the world. It allows me to compare what I like with what the general public likes. In fact, I don't feel the need to defend this half of the argument. It's maths; it works, and that much should be obvious.
On the other hand, of course, there are the countless social aspects that numbers simply cannot handle. How much publicity has this person had? Are the stats an accurate indication of the artist's skill? Does 'popularity' even matter at all? Allow me to briefly focus the spotlight on a certain mythical creature of mine:

People seem to love to jump to conclusions. If there's one thing I want people who visit my page or read my comics to understand, it's this: If I poke fun at something, that does not automatically mean that I HATE it.
I'm restating that now because it came up again recently in the "Nintentroll" comic. People seemed to think that because the comic is making fun of certain pokemon that means I am decrying the whole series or somehow personally insulting those who actually do enjoy the specific examples I used. Let me reassure you, I am not.
I guess I just want people to lighten up and not always be in such a defensive mode all the time. Everyone has different likes and dislikes and if I don't like something or happen to poke fun at something you do, that does not mean I am personally attacking you and there's no reason to be so knee-jerk defensive about it. I'm sure you've all seen the jokes, but this one stems from David Cage, who gushed over the tech demo of an old man's face for the PS4, remarking about how the only way to get "true" emotion is by bridging the uncanny valley with high resolution models, hi-def textures, and realistic shaders. "True emotion" of course can't be found in books, TV, or cartoons because none of those things can depict the exquisite details of a wrinkled face in true HD glory. I'm sorry to say this, David Cage, but if I can get an emotional response out of 16-bit pixel sprites from Chrono Trigger, or a pictureless book... your logic is faulty.
