Ms. Male Character - Tropes vs Women in Video GameI hate talking about Anita Sarkeesian, but primarily because there’s such anger induced hatred of the woman herself that people tend to gloss over what she’s saying and ignore the bigger issue by nitpicking her to death. That’s very frustrating for me because whenever I talk about her videos or so much as refer to her by name, the response is almost magical. Saying Anita Sarkeesian on the internet is like a magical incantation to summon trolls.Ms. Male Character - Tropes vs Women in Video Game2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It’s almost impossible to talk about the subject matter (which is the actual issue that needs to be discussed) without devolving into a venom spewing hate storm against the messenger (Anita). And remember, this is coming from someone who DOESN’T LIKE HER EITHER. Her views on “Sucker Punch” were so misjudged and ill informed that it’s almost comical. That being the case, I feel the need to preface this journal with some requests. Please for the love of god if you are going to respond to this journal
Things I wish Comics Would Stop Doing Part 2Transparent Sound FXThings I wish Comics Would Stop Doing Part 21 year ago in Personal More Like This
This one is kinda less known but it bothers me a lot. I understand WHY it's being done (it allows them to have a big sound effect over the artwork and not miss out on too much of the art itself), but I just can't stand the way it looks. It feels cluttered and has little to no impact in my opinion.
So side note: I've been getting a bunch of death threats lately. Got at least 2 e-mailed to me yesterday and one sent to my DA note box today. Dunno if they're all the same person, or if they're just trolls, or if they're just people who don't realize that threatening someone with death is wrong but... yeah...
Lesson learned: Never stand up for women's rights because anonymous people on the internt will want to murder you for your opinions...
How do I find MY STYLE?I've gotten that question a bunch of times. Here's some thoughts on it:How do I find MY STYLE?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
As far as "Style" questions go, I dodge those like crazy. Honestly, I don't feel I have much of a style. I never have. I have an "adaptable" ability to draw like Disney, Nick, etc. Whatever I need to draw like for a given job. Within reason. Some cruder styles (like, say, a Mike Judge style) would be harder for me because its hard to break drawing rules you've been taught for so many years. Yes, I'd say some of my "Bancroft girls" have my style but its also kind of a Disney style. In my opinion there are two kinds of "style" artists: the ones that have a SUPER destinct style (like "Cheeks" or Jack Kirby) that have been drawing that way since the beginning and can't draw any other way, and the rest of us- whose style will evolve through the years based on work experiences and artistic influences. The latter won't have extremely strong styles but will be more adaptable to other styles. We tend to follow up
The Commandments of Sherlock Holmes(Out of topic) Before I get into this, a note to all Sherlockians: Go check out Andrew Lane's Young Sherlock Holmes book series if you haven't already! Thank you.The Commandments of Sherlock Holmes3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Reading up David Hume's texts on "Problems of Induction" inspired me to compile an essential list pertaining to systematic workings of (canon) Sherlock Holmes in my personal journal, and :iconwindmaedchen: encouraged me to share it here; so here we are.
Let's face it: I'm not a criminal investigator. Far from it! However, especially because I'm more of an artist, writer, literature lover and conceptionist, the philosophy of logic appeals to me as much as the philosophy of... well, everything! I've compiled the following list of self-applied codes of Sherlock Holmes -- a character imagined by the ingenious writer, physician and logician, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle -- from the canon, of certain axioms and theories to consider in contemplation and practice. These comma
Sucker PunchedThis is a LONG one so settle in!Sucker Punched2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I’ve been re-watching Sucker Punch a lot lately and have been humorously admiring how misunderstood it is. It’s almost comical how a movie that comes right out and says “I am about the negative connotations surrounding the constant sexual abuse and objectification that women endure,” gets reviewed and dismissed as “just another pandering male geek fantasy of objectified sexualized women.”
I could write a book on the various subtle metaphors and messages Sucker Punch visualizes, but I don’t wanna bore you all. But to demonstrate what I mean let’s just dissect a small piece of it.
Before we begin we need to understand two things. First, Director Zach Snyder made the film with the express intent of it being a feminist critique on geek culture. If you don’t believe me, hear it from his own words: http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/features/interview-zack-snyder-on-the-sexuality-and-world
Facebook is NOT a GAME. Things you didn't know**HEY GUYS- THIS HAS BEEN UPDATED - **Facebook is NOT a GAME. Things you didn't know3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I wrote this journal originally a couple of months ago, but now realizing that I kind of wrote this out of pure bitterness and judging..I admit it. So instead of saying all the wrong stuff people are doing with Facebook (self promoting or superficial beauty contests or who's the prettiest contest or who has the most likes and etc trying to get 3000+ friends.) I won't go on, you probably have a whole list of things that annoy or aggravate you on Facebook. Well I am here to inform you.
EVERY SINGLE THING YOU DO ON FACEBOOK IS not private or for you and your friends eyes only, UNLESS YOU CHANGE YOUR SETTINGS. There are a lot of creeps out there and you don't know who may be watching your stuff. If you are fine with it or do not think it is serious and no one is bothering, feel free to do what you please.

This so-called MOOD SYSTEMMany people, especially emoticonists, have been wondering about this mood system. As far as I know, spyed came up with the idea, and he told me that it's his favorite project that was released with v5. spyed messaged me around 2am a few nights ago and asked me to take a look at the Mood System. He explained to me what it was and what his vision of it was. I went through the list, adding in emotes and categories/sub-categories. A half-day later, the moods system was complete with 190 total moods and emoticons. Many of these emoticons were not in emoticon legend. I could have picked out more that were in there, but I ultimately decided that it would be a good thing to bring in some new life. Much love goes to Pachunka, dionyziz and the other IT geeks for coding this up in collaboration with the Creative Team. If you have any suggestions for the moods system, feel free to post them here and I'll see what I can do.This so-called MOOD SYSTEM9 years ago in Personal More Like This

Comic faces and expressions tutorial!Hello guys!Comic faces and expressions tutorial!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The expressions tutorial I did for Wysp Learning Engine is finally on run!
It contains of 20 separate panels, each of them are meant to show a process of how to draw faces and expressions; so if you are interested, you can try it out here
The learning engine allows you to try practicing on a digital canvas right there on the site, which is really helpful because you're able to see your progress instantly; and hopefully you will find the tutorial I did worth seeing!
There also are some other tutorials; such as male and female anatomy and dragons tutorials; so Wysp is definitely worth checking out, especially for young learning artists
Sorry I am not very active lately, but have a nice day, by the way

Just something to writeThere was a happier time with you in my arms... after it vanished by one fateful demise,Just something to write3 years ago in Personal More Like This
the rest of myself on the inside died. I take responsibility of the path that had lost us along the way,
though I shan't allow full blame, there were monsters amidst that kept bashing you and I to the ground.
Through unforgettable arguments and the fight that keeps you and I united, revenge hasn't tasted as sweet
as the dirt I force feed the enemy which caused such havoc.
... Sweet Dirt, indeed.
I pray a long the way to what ever higher power is out there... you will return to my arms yet again.
I miss the angel I called you and still call you till this day.

But seriously...just been very busy as of late, now working part-time at my father's business, earning money for my fursuit, which should be ready sometime around February-March. I have lots of really nice locomotive shots to upload; hopefully I'll find the time to sit down and show them to you all soon. ALSO: Inflatable Balto has entered production and the toys are now being tested for air retention! I'm not counting on it, but a Christmas delivery would be super. ^^ Thanks for your patience, everyone!

(sort of) Poll: Are you content with your art?Since I can't actually do polls, you can just answer in the comments.(sort of) Poll: Are you content with your art?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
It seems like a stupid question to ask, but I'm asking it anyway. Are you content with your drawing style? Is there anything you'd like to improve upon? Are you really happy with the way you draw a specific thing?
Of course this can go for any type of artist, not just illustrators. If your art is metal work or knitting or music or writing or cosplay, I'd still like to know!
If you comment, it'd be cool if you listed a few of your favorite artists, whether they're world wide famous, classic, or simply here on DA. You know, people you look up to, or just really like their style.
