Character Creation Guide There will be only ONE of any one Pokémon allowed. By this I mean there can be only one Riolu, only one Pikachu, only one Sneasel etc. The only Pokemon this rule does not apply for are NPCs. If there is an NPC Voltorb in the group, then the member slot for Voltorb is still open.Character Creation Guide3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Legendary Pokémon are allowed. However, we are expecting a little more willpower in our legendaries. They aren't as easily accepted as regular pokemon. Which means your likelihood of getting into the group is a bit slimmer. The only exception is NO Arceus, no one gets to play god. And obviously no Darkrai.
Shineys are indeed allowed, and there is no set limited number. However, shiney Pokemon are going to be judged just as harsh as legendaries. Slight discoloration is also allowed, such as an Eevee with slightly more orange fur. But no neon pink Eevees, for sanities sake.
Mr. Dark can do many things, but one thing he cannot do is raise th
5%If you're reading this now, it means you're roughly in the 5%. Most people who go online to read about comics will end up reading previews and "top 10" lists--subjects we all, or course, enjoy. But the articles/blogs that critically analyze our industry are usually only read by two types: people in the biz whom are affected by this stuff, and the few readers who are interested in reading more than word balloons when it comes to comics.5%4 years ago in Personal More Like This
And I'm not knocking people who don't care to read these articles. All readers are contributing to the industry with their buying power, and I'm thankful for them, even if they're not in the 5%. I admit, if I had a normal 9-5 job and a boss that was kicking my ass 5 days a week, I might not have the tolerance for these sorts of articles either.
That being said, I think we need more of these articles/blogs written from different points of view--more from creators especially. The 2010s will likely be r
TO THE ASPIRING ARTISTS OUT THERE...." I haven't reached the point where I think I'm good at this. that's the drive. i know that its in me to be really good at it. and i think i've come close a few times, but i don't usually look at things i've completed and feel content. Which that means the next thing you start, you go in with that attitude that 'this time, I'm gonna get it right.' it doesnt mean you hate everything you do, but i'm never content. Joanne Renaud's historical Disney princessesSo there are a bunch of artists out there doing their own historical Disney princesses, but Joanne Renaud's series (:iconsuburbanbeatnik is one of my favourites by far. I found her after the fact, but she actually started her series long before I did- she has a gorgeous style and one hell of an eye for historical costuming, so if you like what I do then you'll probably like what she does:Joanne Renaud's historical Disney princesses2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Her level of accuracy definitely puts some of my older pieces to shame- she really sticks to her guns where I would often chicken out and take stylistic license. Go check out her stuff, it'll definitely be worth your while!
A New LevelAbout 14 years ago I started my comic career with Dreamwave. After that I moved onto Nelvana for a while and worked on two shows. During that I started with UDON where I still am. In 2011 I started to teach at Seneca College in Toronto.A New Level3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Over the years you've heard me belly ache about my mixed feelings about what I work on and what type of rhetorical acrobatics I do to justifiy it to myself. For the most part it's to pay the bills and that it's just what I do until something else comes along. I never claim that anything I work on is representory of my moral beliefs or religion for that matter nor do I try to excuse myself under the guise of some self serving excuse, it just simply is my situation.
I'm happy for all the work I have and am doing and I do it as well as I possibly can. I am the sole provider for my family and I thank God for all the work that i do have and my thanks and appreciation manifests itself in my effort to try and do the best I can.

But, it's not without good reason! I am using the next month to get as many pages done as possible of 5th Capsule. Thats right, a total reboot from what ever you saw in Vent. Some of the older characters might find their way in, but you'll just have to wait,
As it is right now I'm on page 28, and I am hoping to get 75 - 90 pages of story done first. I'm considering putting it alltogether in one book with about 15 - 20 full colour images in the back as well as maps and all sorts of geeky stuff.
You have no idea how much i have been trying to refine and learn from my mistakes over the last year. I have more than myself editing it, and while it will never be perfect, the lack of extreme deadline allows for us to look at it carefully.
I might do a kickstarter, but first I want to have the book done completely. All I would look for is print cost. I'm not going to commit to any det

However, "Will my dreams ever come true?" is not the most important question you can ask yourself right now.
The bigger question that bad news reveals is this:
" IF MY DREAM DIES, WHAT WILL I DO?"
It is wise to decide how you'll respond to failure and seemingly insurmountable obstacles before you face them" :

Art help and podcastUnironic question about cartooning vs realismArt help and podcast3 years ago in Personal More Like This
A few days ago I asked for help with a drawing and i got a load of great advice. However, while taking the advice a lot of it helped reinforce a notion that frustrates me. The idea that "greater detail and anatomy = better products." Whenever I get criticism for my artwork, the general notion that I get is that people want me to make art more realistically, with greater sense of detail, lighting, perspective, and anatomy. And while I agree I need to work on all those aspects... I have qualms about being pushed in that direction. I like making cartoony drawings, so at what point do you cut off the realism in favor of being more cartoony? Why is being cartoony more frowned upon or seen as being lazy? One person in the threat that was helping me mentioned that while I did good on the artwork in question, I need to take the info with a grain of salt and be careful not to let people steer me towards being a realistic artist if cartooning
Anniversary ContesttheWrittenRevolution is now two years old! As a tribute to how far we've come and to kick-off our future decades as an active and radical center for young writers, we're hosting our BIGGEST CONTEST YET.Anniversary Contest4 years ago in Personal More Like This
At some point in the future, we plan on becoming an independent, not-for-profit online writing website, a place where members can share their written work in an artistic fashion, as well as give and receive critique to help them improve their abilities. An aspect of that organization that we are rather enamoured with is publishing compilations of our members' best pieces.
Here's where it starts: we've decided to put together an eBook of the thirty best entries to this contest.
Maybe you're not that impressed, you're thinking, "It's just an eBook, no big deal." We get that. But this is just the beginning. We have to start somewhere, right?
We have prepared five themes and ten vignettes for you to choose from. You may use any of these to

If this is old news, forgive me I just found it and thought it was hilarious:
Level 5 Studios (the company most noted for the Professor Layton series) was having their 15th year anniversary this week. Along with discounted game prices, part of the celebration was to make a wallpaper featuring player voted favorite characters. Unfortunately for Level 5, the voting of these characters quickly came under attack by trolls who hijacked the results and submitted obscure minor characters instead. The final list included the airplane from Aero Porter in first place with 46,000 votes.
Rather than toss out the votes and start over, Level 5 just rolled with it and produced the wallpaper with the skewed results anyway. You can download the wallpaper here: http://www.level5.co.jp/15th/vote/
I think what I love most about this is that they actually went with the airplane. The inanimate object from the Aero Porter games gets TOP BILLING on the poster. That's hilari
Gamesmaster on YoutubeI like to have a bit of "white noise" playing in the background as I work. Either a movie I'm familiar with, a BBC documentary, Hollywood Babble On, etc.Gamesmaster on Youtube2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Today I just stumbled upon a real gem: every episode of the legendary Gamesmaster has been uploaded to Youtube by someone destined for sainthood!
(No, not the sh*tty Nintendo propaganda cartoon.)
Gamesmaster was the first TV show to focus purely on video games and video game culture, and, with no internet back then, it was the only way I got to see most games.
My sole gaming platform was the old Commodore 64 warhorse, until I won a Megadrive/Genesis in '93 ("Design a character" competition), and it was another couple of years after that before I got a PC, so things like Monkey Island 2 I only got to see moving via Gamesmaster. Otherwise, it was just a case of staring lustfully at the screenshots on the back of the box.
So, for a 20 year old British kid's TV show, visit:

The Secret Drawing IngredientIf you're an artist of any kind it's extremely important to hone your craft and technical abilities. After all, the better you draw and the better you are at mastering the drawing tools you use - the easier it is to convey your unique message for public consumption. The Secret Drawing Ingredient2 years ago in Personal More Like This
But how important is technical ability, really? Obviously, it's very important. Understanding anatomy, light and shadow and perspective are key to solid drawing. It's important to always be improving in those departments. It's also very important to master the tools you use to draw with. Learning to render or color professionally can only increase your appeal to both fans and other professionals.
But what about developing artistic appeal on a much deeper level?
It's not just about finding a pleasing style. Anyone can do that with enough practice. You can always choose a popular artist and emulate his or her style. The blueprint is right there. But why d

5 Art Selling TipsWhile I used to see "art sales" simply as bonus money coming in on the side, over the past few years it's become enough of an asset that it justifies an art dealer, record keeping, insurance, and taxes at the end of each year. It's currently 25% of my total income, and that has a lot of impact over my work. And just like storytelling, design and page flow--abstract principles that keep my career afloat daily--art sales also deserve to be studied, theorized, and understood.5 Art Selling Tips3 years ago in Personal More Like This
These are guidelines, not rules. And while most of them usually work for me, they might not all work for you, so keep in mind that my market might be different than yours. Because not only do we not draw the same, we probably have different sorts of buyers.
1. Don't stay on a book for too long
I find that doing mini series of 4-12 issues is optimal for selling art. If you spend a year doing one-shots or 2-3 issue minis, you'll be hard for buyers to keep track of because it's too infrequent. And it's hard to make an i

Back when it was common knowledge that the sun and all the planets revolved around our Earth, the phenomena of solar and lunar eclipses were mysterious and terrifying occurrences. Were the gods unhappy with us? Were these heavenly messages indicating the End of Days had arrived? Emperors and kings often felt a familial connection with the Sun, and so feared its temporary withdrawal from the sky to be a warning of its unhappiness with royal actions. Desp
