Daily Deviation Suggestion Drive!Back By Popular Demand!Daily Deviation Suggestion Drive!5 months ago in Contests More Like This
In January of 2012, the community was challenged by `thorns to do something about their complaints on dA. Thus was born this very group! But before the group, it was just a fledgling idea on `Kneeling-Glory's account that began with a DD Suggestion Contest. The results of that contest were overwhelming. And so, under the prodding of quite a few Community Volunteers, we're going to do it again!UPDATE: Less than 1 week in and we've already got 100 suggested DDs and 2 accepted suggestions!!
Keep up the great work guys and gals. Please remember that you need to leave a link to every deviation you suggest in this journa

I would like to formally welcome each and every one of you to the official #deviant365 group! We have a fantastic year ahead for all of you filled with events, contests, weekly tasks and perhaps most importantly, prizes! Every week we will be posting a task that hopes to get those creative juices flowing in your mind. Sometimes they will be simple, sometimes you might have to submit art, and sometimes they might be a week long task you partake in! But in every case, we hope to make them fun!
Happy New Year, and may these tasks lead you to your greatest endeavor!
This week the task is to answer this question: What are your goals, ambitions, or artistic endeavors for the upcoming year? Comment with your idea, and two deviants who do will win a devWEAR T-Shirt of their choice!
Plus, we want you to get some exposure! Submit something new you posted on deviantART to the n

Calling all beta testers, bug lovers and feature loving deviants.
I have exciting news! #devBUG is looking for some new deviants to be Alpha Tester!
But what is an alpha tester?
An Alpha tester is a bit like a Beta tester only they get to test out new features before Beta testers do.
So, what do alpha testers get to do?
As an alpha tester you'll have the chance to talk to staff and developers about new and upcoming features, and help find and report any bugs that there may be, before it goes to beta testers or th

Seniority Announcements - January 2013Seniority Announcements - January 20134 months ago in deviantART Blog More Like This
This article marks the latest additions to the dizzy height of Senior members in our community. With just over 1000 deviants holding the highly saught after ` -- it's clearly a moment that deserves recognition.
:faq29:
So what does it take to become a Senior? That's a question many have asked and have never really been able to get a straight answer on. Some have gained Seniority as a thank you for their time spent as a Volunteer, or to recognise their contribution to a particular project or collaborative action. Some have gained Seniority because of their community spirit, providing help and assistance to many other deviants and taking time out to promote the work of others in the community.
Some people have received Seniority because of their artistic endevours, having a positive influence on their peers by sharing resources, providing constructive criticism and by being a voice that stands out above the many other

Troubleshooting:How to Photograph Christmas LightsTroubleshooting:How to Photograph Christmas Lights5 months ago in Community Relations More Like This
I recently read an article on Reddit that explored the best way to photography Christmas lights and it raised some interesting points. Rather than re-hash what has already been said, I've delved into a few tutorials around the web to give an overview of some hints and tips - and will link them all at the end of this article so that you can investigate for yourself.
When you take a Photograph, the camera will often over-compensate with the colours that it's trying to capture and objects that look fairly white to the naked eye don't appear so in the photo that you've taken. White Balance aims to override that. But just setting your camera to Auto White Balance and hoping for the best is not good enough...
The above shots show the same location taken firstly with auto white balance - and then secondly with the white balance set to shade. Setting Shade me

Sana is an enthusiastic member of the community who is loved by many. She joined deviantART almost 6 years ago. She's a true inspiration for anyone who wants to be more involved around deviantART. Sana received seniority status in August last year, on top of that she alpha tests for dA over at #devBUG - which means she plays around with new features before Beta testers get to!

A Note on Daily Deviation FeaturesAt ten features into my tenure as Community Volunteer for Abstract & Surreal Photography I am noticing a certain trend in response to abstract and surreal Daily Deviations. I shall address some of the recurring themes here, and hopefully answer some questions along the way. At this point I would like to mention that I am talking about a small and vocal minority, and I sincerely thank the overwhelming majority for supporting the featured artists and their work. You're what makes this site such a great community.A Note on Daily Deviation Features5 months ago in Community Relations More Like This
With that said, let's get to the troublesome themes I am coming across.
The "This is crap!" Argument
As an observer and a critic, you're entitled to think that something isn't very good. However, exclaiming as such on the comments of a piece of work that an artist has spent time and energy creating is not only counter-productive, but rude and insulting, especially if it's not followed up with some advice about how you think they could make their

Gallery Makeover ProjectHello everyoneGallery Makeover Project2 months ago in Community Relations More Like This
Recently my team and I worked tirelessly on a project to help improve the gallery descriptions and thumbnail examples. While that project was indeed tedious with almost 4,000 categories in our system, it was also educational. What I learned from sorting through thousands and thousands of categories was that we have a lot of redundancy and a lot of categories that seem to have been created on a whim that are now simply homes for junk.
Over the years, the desire to appease niche communities and people who just wanted a specific area has led to some categories that go up to 4 levels deep, and it's really no wonder it's so confusing for people to figure out where to submit their artwork.
The conclusion I've come to is simplicity. While I'm not about to rip apart everything and make 6 stand alone categories, I do believe that there is a lot we can do to simplify the category tree. That includes some of the following:
1. Merging categories that ma

(FACT: It's not just because some of us have crappy vision.)
I know some of you like the effect, but here's the deal: do whatever you want on your own monitor and keep your hands off mine.
Did you know that, in Windows, holding Ctrl and moving the scroll wheel up or down changes font size? You do now, and it's not much harder to change zoom size on a Mac (I hear it is most likely cmd++ or cmd+- , cmd+0 reverts it to the original size). I know it's just as easy in Linux, anyway.
I already have my browser's text size display set to what I want, thank you very much.
Anyone who uses Word must be familiar with the concept of font size in points: 12pt Times New Roman, especially, when it comes to turning in essays for teachers. (And 13pt periods for those of you who couldn't hit that minimum page count)
Well, here's the deal: Web display doesn't work quite the same way. You can force all text to be 16
Everyday we're CV'ingAs a Community Volunteer - I do as much or as little within the community that I feel comfortable doing. We're not pressured to do this and that, we don't even have to give a Daily Deviation every day, we choose how we promote our selected galleries/chats and forums and we're not fixed to any specific rule on how much or how little we do. But I do believe that it's important to share with you just what the community volunteers do and why we do it. More importantly it's so easy to get lost on this site full of many people - and miss out on the awesome that's going on. So I'm going to share with you exactly what the latest awesome is...Everyday we're CV'ing7 months ago in Community Relations More Like This
