#deviant365 For 2013! Tell your friends!Hello Deviants!
We are so excited that the new year is almost upon us! On January 1st, 2013 the fun begins! Weekly tasks start flowing and we start handing out prizes!
But before the new year, we would like to get the word out that deviant365 is up and running for 2013! Please consider sharing this journal with your friends, watchers and groups. We really want to be there for as many deviants as we can.
deviant365 aims to bring the deviousness to the deviantART community one week at a time, 365 days a year. deviant365 is deviantART's official 365 Project where you will be provided with weekly tasks for the whole year. The aim of this is to give you motivation to participate in areas of our community that perhaps you have never experienced before, make new friends, work on your art, learn more about deviantART and enhance your experience on deviantART.
So without much more waiting, we are looking forward to the 1st and hope you a
Daily Deviation Suggestion Drive!Back By Popular Demand!Daily Deviation Suggestion Drive!3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
In January of 2012, the community was challenged by thorns to do something about their complaints on dA. Thus was born this very group! But before the group, it was just a fledgling idea on LiliWrites's account that began with a DD Suggestion Contest. The results of that contest were overwhelming. And so, under the prodding of quite a few Community Volunteers, we're going to do it again!
UPDATE: Less than 1 week in and we've already got 100 suggested DDs and 2 accepted suggestions!! Keep up the great work guys and gals. Please remember that you need to leave a link to every deviation you suggest in this journa

First of all, I have to say how proud I am of all of you! You have done great in helping me collect the 63,600 points needed to give out 100 Premium Memberships!
For those of you who do not know, I, PrinceJose am collecting 63,600 points in order to give 100 3-month premium memberships to other deviants this holiday season. The purpose is for you and other deviants to donate and spread the word and holiday cheer!
Now I will be giving you all an update on what's going on!
We are over 26,000 points in to the project which is amazing! However, it is not enough.
I know what you're thinking. "It's just September!" but if you think about it, that means 3 months until December, which really is not a lot.
Right now we need 36,882 points to complete the project. It may sound like a lot but we can get there with a simple technique.
Want to Become an Alpha Tester? Now's Your Chance!Update: A massive thank you to everyone who sent in a application to be an alpha tester! Applications are now closed. Due to the volume of applications it will take a few more days to finish going through them. Calling all beta testers, bug lovers and feature loving deviants.
I have exciting news! devBUG is looking for some new deviants to be Alpha Tester!
But what is an alpha tester?
An Alpha tester is a bit like a Beta tester only they get to test out new features before Beta testers do.
So, what do alpha testers get to do?
As an alpha tester you'll have the chance to talk to staff and developers about new and upcoming features, and help find and report any bugs that there may be, before it goes to beta testers or th

Basking in the glory of finally getting recognised for your hard efforts and photographic skill is pretty awesome and at the start of this week I took the opportunity to enjoy georgewjohnson's after he got published in a UK Photography Magazine. It's really nice when something like that happens and the knowledge that across the country - and because of deviantART and other networks - across the world, people are looking at your work. And if you're me, smiling! I once stumbled across lauren-rabbit's work in Black and White Photography Magazine and was truly proud that somebody I had found here on deviantART was here in my mag! So have you been published? Has your work received any recognition that makes you proud? What are your tips to getting out there and having your work showcased?
Top ten tips for doing the 365 challenge! 1)Perfect isn't always possibleTop ten tips for doing the 365 challenge!2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
I once made the mistake of getting a pretty good shot (yes really!) and then expecting the same thing to fall into my hands day after day. Don't let 'fame' put you off. If you win a contest with an image, get into the newspaper, get a DD, or get 'freshly pressed' on wordpress, don't let it make you think that you can't achieve the same again. You can. Just maybe not for another 365 days! Let yourself be perfect and not so perfect. Capture the epic images, but also capture the everyday ones. You never know when they will surprise you.
When you see something around your home or local area that you think needs Photographing, write it down! I've got a little notebook in which I keep all my current ideas for the 365 Challenge. I also have back up plans for days when I'm insanely busy and need to get a quick capture, and other things in the bag for when I know I'm going to need a bit of
Troubleshooting:How to Photograph Christmas LightsTroubleshooting:How to Photograph Christmas Lights3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I recently read an article on Reddit that explored the best way to photography Christmas lights and it raised some interesting points. Rather than re-hash what has already been said, I've delved into a few tutorials around the web to give an overview of some hints and tips - and will link them all at the end of this article so that you can investigate for yourself.
When you take a Photograph, the camera will often over-compensate with the colours that it's trying to capture and objects that look fairly white to the naked eye don't appear so in the photo that you've taken. White Balance aims to override that. But just setting your camera to Auto White Balance and hoping for the best is not good enough...
The above shots show the same location taken firstly with auto white balance - and then secondly with the white balance set to shade. Setting Shade me

Hello everyone, and welcome to our second annual deviantART Staff Appreciation Week! We hope that you're as excited as we are to kick off a 7-day-long celebration of deviantART and the people who make it run smoothly for us!
For this week of contests, projects, love, points, prizes, more love, and devious shenanigans, our team of volunteers has worked very hard to organize many ways of telling the staff of deviantART, rather simply, "THANK YOU!"
So, without further ado, let's take a look at our schedule of events! If you are interested in seeing what's happening during the dASAW, you can refer to this journal! We will link to all of our pertinent news articles and post the dates of our contests and projects here!
Don't forget to wish the deviantART staff a happy dASAW! :iconeeeeeplz:

Daily Deviations play a significant role behind the heart of a Community Volunteer. It is my pleasure to promote the Fan Artists that successfully give their represented fandom justice for all the world to appreciate. Please understand that I am only interested in featuring as many fandoms as I can, as the Fan Art Empire continues to grow.
So do I feature My Little Pony? Absolutely.
Scarface? Even if Al Pacino is himself.
What about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Lord of the Rings? Beauty and the Beast? Kuroshitsuji?
With that said, let me give you the easiest resource to suggest your works (either self-made or by another artist) - please read these carefully.
As of September 30, 2014 - I will only add one suggester
FASHIONABLY IMPORTANT: The ModelThere are a great number of things which are required for a fashion photograph to be successful beyond just the skill of the photographer, many of these are obvious and many aren't.FASHIONABLY IMPORTANT: The Model3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Today I'm going to talk about the importance of models and a little bit about using them to successfully improve your book.
The right model can make a shoot - the wrong one can break it. Every photoshoot is a collaboration between model and photographer - often with others as well, but always between those two. If it isn't then it will fail, if you don't work together the results will never be what you want them to be.
We all have to start somewhere, when you start out in fashion photography your work probably won't be of a quality which is good enough to attract agency models or convince their bookers to work with you. It's the beginning of an uphill climb, the first of many challenges which you need to be prepared to face if you want to scratch out a
Gallery Makeover ProjectHello everyoneGallery Makeover Project3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Recently my team and I worked tirelessly on a project to help improve the gallery descriptions and thumbnail examples. While that project was indeed tedious with almost 4,000 categories in our system, it was also educational. What I learned from sorting through thousands and thousands of categories was that we have a lot of redundancy and a lot of categories that seem to have been created on a whim that are now simply homes for junk.
Over the years, the desire to appease niche communities and people who just wanted a specific area has led to some categories that go up to 4 levels deep, and it's really no wonder it's so confusing for people to figure out where to submit their artwork.
The conclusion I've come to is simplicity. While I'm not about to rip apart everything and make 6 stand alone categories, I do believe that there is a lot we can do to simplify the category tree. That includes some of the following:
1. Merging categories that ma
Stock and Resources: Policy ClarificationThe Stock and Resources community is an integral part of deviantART, both for having an active community of its own as well as providing high quality stock to all deviants.Stock and Resources: Policy Clarification3 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
As this community has grown so much over the years, so has the amount of invalid stock and resources that have been provided by some deviants. The Stock and Resources community feels like this reflects negatively on them, the volunteers have a hard time trying to teach people about valid stock and how to use it correctly, and it gives an appearance that deviantART Staff tolerate so-called “art theft” or copyright infringement.
In this article our aim is to reinforce our policies regarding stock and stock use and clear up some misconceptions.
Stock and Resource submissions to deviantART:
What are Invalid Stock and Resources?
In short, invalid stock or resources are anything which you do not have full permission to upload. This incl
A Note on Daily Deviation FeaturesAt ten features into my tenure as Community Volunteer for Abstract & Surreal Photography I am noticing a certain trend in response to abstract and surreal Daily Deviations. I shall address some of the recurring themes here, and hopefully answer some questions along the way. At this point I would like to mention that I am talking about a small and vocal minority, and I sincerely thank the overwhelming majority for supporting the featured artists and their work. You're what makes this site such a great community.A Note on Daily Deviation Features3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
With that said, let's get to the troublesome themes I am coming across.
The "This is crap!" Argument
As an observer and a critic, you're entitled to think that something isn't very good. However, exclaiming as such on the comments of a piece of work that an artist has spent time and energy creating is not only counter-productive, but rude and insulting, especially if it's not followed up with some advice about how you think they could make their

Getting the Most out of dA: CommentingUsually, when you read something involving 'Commenting', you think of deviations and the commenting platform that allows other members of the community to voice their thoughts and opinions on the art shown. However, what is pretty evident, and something that most of us may forget, is that deviantART runs on the ability to give and get comments, be it on pieces of artwork, our profile pages, forums, and everywhere else in between.Getting the Most out of dA: Commenting3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
In a sense, without the ability to give and get comments, deviantART wouldn't be much of a website, much less #1 of online art communities around. Comments are not solely the cause of what makes deviantART what it is, but it has a huge impact on a lot of things. By giving and getting comments, not only do we interact with other members to really make this a community, we also have the ability to get our voices heard.
It's quite an odd concept with us all facing screens, typing out our thoughts and opinions, but one thing we shouldn't forget is that commen

Hey there Devious CSSkinners!
First off, hover over the Title and Stamp to see some snazzy effects. That's the kind of stuff that CSS3 allows users to play around with. As I had been an Alpha Tester on devBUG, we had a few CSS3 privileges to test in Journal Skins in which several deviants had asked me "How did you do that?" and "Please share the code so we can learn" so I've been meaning to give a few lessons on CSS3 since forever and projecteducate has given me the opportunity to do so

Food Photography - back to basicsFood is a necessity for daily life and good health (the right kinds anyway), but food is also fast becoming something of an Art as well as many turn to their cameras once a mammoth baking session is over and capture the delightful dishes in attractive and alluring ways. Since the beginnings of Still Life Photography, food has been a subject and whilst the topic has remained the same - methods, equipment and ease have changed in varying degrees across the years. Food Photography is still a genre that is vastly overlooked and majorly underrated in the art world.Food Photography - back to basics3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
It all began with Still Life Paintings back in the 17th Century. They were as far from commercial as a style could get and certainly weren't created with selling in mind. However the skill and main aspects that realism painters took back in the 17th Century are kept close to the hearts of Food Photographers today as they grip onto Realism, effects of light, composition and arrangement. Props have always been an important part of
