I look into the night sky and see only you.
Those eyes glimmer, signaling your desires or dreams.
Is it perfection that you have, smelling sweet like perfumes?
So is it fate, that from your lips were no screams.
Your eyes, not hesitant to show no fear of a monster.
Oh, how my emerald eyes betray me of the things I can't understand!
Under the moonlight, your hair, your light, why must you taunt a hunter?
Reaching to a light out of my reach, even my wings won't let me leave this desert land.
Here I stand disappearing silently, into dust, into the night.
Each one of you friends has come to rescue you from the dark.
A fierce warrior serves you and knows that I'm not right.
Realms of loneliness I finally come out, but you're already marked.
The warrior must end me to win you back, but why does love always betray?
Time to end it here, and now, the winner earning your heart.
Happiness should relieve you, but yet you linger and stay.
A most wondrous sight I see, that you don't want to be pulle

Now, some of you may be aware of the publication of the next Bleach: UNMASKED character book, the third one to date, which includes a section on Ulquiorra's past prior to becoming an Espada.
If not, here's a link to all the scans as well as the translation of the Japanese text: http://bleachness.livejournal.com/646106.html
From this, we can see how his character as an Espada formed.
THE TITLE: 'NOT BE, BUT BE,'
I admit, I looked at it and thought: 'WTF?' But as we well know, Kubo always crams his titles full of intriguing possible explanations as to their meanings. This one, therefore, is no different.
Then some kind of insane inspiration hit me, as it often did. The familiarity of the title, as if I'd heard those words uttered in some other form somewhere else...
Oh my God. Of course.
Shakespeare's play 'Hamlet', in which a certain famous speech

Ulquiorra was perched comfortably upon Orihime's shoulder, his tail waving back and forth time-to-time, sending shivers up Orihime's spine.
Uryu glared at the tiny bat, rage and jealousy burning in his eyes.
They continued to walk through the sands towards the closest battle with Byakuya, Kenpachi, and Yammy.
Once they reached the battleground, they were met with a defeated Yammy. He was on the ground in a lump. Captain Kurotsuchi was just beginning to open a garganta for the use of bringing the remaining captains back into the real world.
The captain of the 12th squad spotted the two humans, his lanky golden eyes running over their beaten and torn clothing as they were walking towards the group.
While Orihime and Uryu struggled to walk down a steep sand dune, Ulquiorra noticed the captain's eyes caught sight of him, a smile growing upon his face. It made the small bat feel uneasy. "That's Ku

I've long pondered the question...why, after healing Loly and Menoly (TWICE,) Orihime simply didn't try to heal Ulquiorra, even after he reached out to her.
It can't be something so simple as "Ulquiorra was too goddamn strong to survive that fight and Kubo had no where to put him in the Fullbringer Arc." That just seems like bad storytelling. But I think I may have finally figured it out. (I was talking about this on my IchiHime thing before and it just suddenly clicked.)
An important thing to FIRST take into consideration is what Kubo himself considers The Heart to be in his story, because without an understanding of what the author is trying to do, analyzing the story itself becomes pointless.

I do not understand.
Smiling is a mere false show;
Crying, the product of the eyes' foul itch;
Anger, the worthless pretence of self-justification;
Gladness, the putrid writhe of chemicals in the gut;
Happiness, the dirty concoction that poisons with despair;
Love, a weak blood organ waiting to burst.
I do not understand these idle things, empty concepts as they are.
Void, I feel nothing, and nothing is what is necessary.

The black night was pierced by the pallid glow of the white moon streaming through the barred windows of the vast edifice. Hanging frozen within the dark abyss, it was like a pendulum with whose string it had never once been connected. Its eternal presence seemed to mock the black wretches that crawled beneath its false light.
The colossal white palace of Las Noches was icy in its cavernous silence. It was as if no life had ever dared breathed within its walls. Not even echoes of the wind whispering in the wasteland surrounding the

"I don't understand," Ulquiorra said blandly. "What are these contraptions? And why is it so noisy?" He glanced at a few of the customers. "What are they all staring at?"
"Oh, they're all playing video games," she explained. "They're like... games, but... on an electronic screen. Y-You know, like my TV!"
She always did a poor job of telling Ulquiorra about living world things, but it was better than nothing. Someone needed to enculture him on the world of the living, and she rather enjoyed the duty.
She gave him a gentle push. "Just pick something and give it a try!"
He scowled. "You go first."
She immediately turned down the idea. "I-I-I don't know how to play these, either!"
"Then what makes you think I would be interested?"
"You don't always have to have the same interests as I do, Ulquiorra-kun. I'm just giving you options."

A pair of pale hands reached into the crib, gently picking up a just-waking 11-month-old baby girl and settling her into warm, waiting arms.
"Meika," Ulquiorra greeted softly, hoisting his daughter against him.
She responded by yawning in his face.
Ulquiorra couldn't help but give her a faint smile. "I assume you napped well."
As if sensing a missing presence in their family of three, Meika began twisting around, making incoherent noises as she searched for her mother.
"Your mother's at the store," he told her, stroking her hair. "She'll be back soon enough."
It seemed that she understood, for she turned back to her father with a bright smile that instantly reminded him of Orihime.
However, that little display of quick understanding and possibly emerging intelligence came from him. Obviously. "You are definitely your father's daughter," he murmured with a bit of self-satisfaction. He leaned his head in to nuzzle against her soft, chubby face, b

But he had to take her with him. No one was to touch her, and around midday, too many Arrancar would have access to the corridor in which her cell was located. Taking her with him at this time was what Aizen-sama would want.
She was an insult to fate. She could undo most everything that happened to a person, and in so doing, she could defy the one universal aspect of death: emptiness. Dead is dead is dead is dead, just as this place was white on white on white on white, until she came here. "HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Gotcha, you brat!" You panted, trying to catch your breath and grabbed her around the waist, lifting her up. "You know today is your day to help with dinner!" You glanced down to see a man with a white button up shirt with little hearts printed all over it, a black feathery coat and long skinny pants. Oh shit.... you thought, setting Baby 5 down and leaning down to grab the hand of the man sprawled out on the ground, better known to everyone as Doflamingo's younger brother. You helped pull him up, only for him to fully stand up towering over you. You watched his straight face turn into a scowl, glaring at Baby 5.

For some reason, Ulquiorra and Orihime found themselves spending many of their dates at the park, and today was no different. It was a particularly cool spring day. The sun beamed gently upon them as they sat together on the grass, leaning against each other underneath a shady tree.
As usual, she was chattering away while he listened mostly in silence, replying only every now and then. It was a routine that suited them ever since he came back into her life.
Everything had been a whirlwind of emotional development since the beginning. Their relationship went from a gesture of redemption, to a steadfast, comforting friendship, and finally, to a nearly perfect consummation of their romantic feelings for each other.
And months and months later, even as their habits stayed put, the love only grew stronger.
Orihime suddenly cut herself off from her enthusiastic rambling, watching with blushing fascination as a smile forced its way to Ulquiorr

It came out of nowhere and in the most unexpected way. Ulquiorra wasn't one that rifled through the belongings of others. He was not nosy, and he did not pry into things that had nothing to do with him. But Orihime did have something to do with him, which was why he found it absolutely permissible to read the folded paper she'd so hastily stuffed in her coat pocket yesterday afternoon.
She was hiding something from him, and his curiosity to find out what left little room for dignity in such a situation. Although surprising to most, they had a very close relationship and secrecy had never been an issue between them. Not until now.
Emerald eyes once more scanned the noteno, not just a note. A love letter from a secret admirer, telling of how he's always watched her from afar, admiring her divine beauty and the way in which she could make even the most miserable person smile. How seeing her was the highlight of his day, and every night he hoped she'
Why I CryHe did not know how many Arrancar still had memories of when they had been humans. To be perfectly honest, Ulquiorra, the Cuatra Espada, couldn't have cared less. He wasn't sure why he still had memories of when he was alive. He did not want or need them. All that was important to him now were Aizen-sama's wants, needs, and orders and, at the moment, all three of those involved taking care of the human girl that he had brought to Hueco Mundo.Why I Cry7 years ago in Fan Fiction More Like This
Ulquiorra hated the girl, Inoue Orihime. She was the reason that he had started getting back those troublesome memories of his life as a human in the first place. They started emerging the first time he ever met her. Once the girl started living in Las Noches and he was required to spend time around her as her guard, the memories came back to him more f

You had worked over again. Your eyes narrowed a bit. “He could at least pay me over-time for all the extra work I put in…”
You jumped as something shattered behind you. Your head snapped in the direction of the sound to see Ururu standing in front of a broken vase, her large puppy-dog eyes filled with tears. Her whole body was trembling as she tried to suppress a crying fit.
“I-I’m sorry,” she apologized. You gave her a half-hearted smile as you pulled the broom from its hanging-place in the closet and began sweeping up the jagged pieces of porcelain. Ururu immediately ran to fetch the dust-pan and

Green eyes glared daggers at the woman holding back laughter behind her hand. Sitting at the kitchen table, no longer bothering to pretend that she was reading the magazine in her hands, Orihime watched as Ulquiorra stared vacantly at the ingredients set upon the counter.
"It's okay if you want help, Ulquiorra," she teased, uncovering her smile.
In response he picked up a leafy vegetable and studied it, trying to remember how Orihime had prepared it. He would not lose this ridiculous challenge she'd so brazenly proposed. It seemed that after one meal too many in which he required copious glasses of water to wash down the putrid taste, Orihime had finally had enough of him criticizing her food. And now it was his turn to prove himself to her that he could do better. That even a novice such as himself could cook something edible, maybe even appetizing.
But his confidence was all a façade. Especially as he scanned the ingredients laid before him. Separately he could identi

Let me just take a moment to sum up the roles of the 'other characters' (Ichigo and co) in terms of helping develop Orihime's character (prior to the Fullbring Arc):
Sora: Her gaurdian that protected/shielded her to the point where she felt a burden to him and thus refrained from telling him her troubles because she thougt that doing so would only further 'burden' him. Even after he died, she would never show anything but happiness to him. She was forced to bottle up all her pain and sorrow without taking the chance to solve her problems thenceforth because she felt like a burden. Sora may have been positive in his self-esteem-boosting compliments on her hair colour
