I've been undergoing some huge events that tore me away from being around unlike years past. Details withheld, a new full-time career and moving to a new place, far from home and IRL friends, contributed to an overwhelmed schedule. Back in April, I ran into someone who I went to Junior High and High School with. (We had friended each other on :iconfbplz: two years ago, but nothing really happened.) Since April, we had started talking once every two weeks. (It was the holidays, her dad came in for surgery, she was playing nursemaid, etc) Then it was every week. Then every day. Afterwards, when he went home, we had one date. She then left for Vegas, again to assist her dad and mom while he was continuing to recover. We had talked maybe once a week then (only because of the time difference).

So, now I find myself writing full-time, both the novels and for Dark Nova Games, as well as being a stay-at-home dad to my daughters. It's only fair, I missed half of my toddler's life while I was in Iraq on my last deployment, trying to make it up to her and spare my youngest from going through that. That being said, I have to say that in 21 years of working in law enforcement, PMC contracting, executive protection and the military, NOTHING has been more stressful or rewarding than being a dad. I honestly had less stress and got more sleep in third world warzones than I do as a dad. I only half-joke when I say send my ass back to A-stan so I can get a vacation. VBIEDs

1) It's a tough life as an artist. You need more than just good drawing abilities to get by. I know a lot of people who are WAY better than me but can't make it as artists. You need to be personable and likable. Work on your people skills and be sincere. People can tell when it's fake.
2) Learn a broad range of skills. Don't just focus on illustration, but also learn the fundamentals of design, sculpture, painting, storyboarding, etc... those skill will help you more than you can possibly imagine.
3) Be yourself. Find your own style and really refine it.
4) Don't waste your education. Don't go out and party and drink when you should be studying and doing homework. They give you that homework for a reason!
5) Always try to be the best. Challenge yourself to make your assignments the best in your class. Always try to be

I will eventually post stuff here on DA, but I felt the format of my blog lent itself better to an overview of the process, and to acknowledge some of the others involved. So I decided to begin with that out of consideration to the talented people I feel privileged to have worked with!

There is an "Art of" book, which I just got - and it's quite nice! But it contains only a fraction of the art generated for the project by myself and the other artists on the team.
I worked with a small group here in the US that included Steven Messing, David Levy, Ben Procter, Carlos Huante, Neville Page & Daniel Simon. And there are other artists who worked over in the UK when the film went into full production. So you can imagine quite a lot of artwork was generated!
Dark Nova Expansion KickstarterWell, we were a wee bit more successful in our quest to expand than we expected, and wound up with a LOT of international orders for the Dark Nova RPG. This ate into our budget for the print run for the expansions, as international shipping is obscene, especially for a four-and-a-half pound book. So, we've been trying to compensate by making up the difference with a kickstarter page for Fortune and Glory. We need another $600 and we're in the black again, so if any of you can help contribute, or pass this info along to those who might be able to, it would be greatly appreciated. We have a deadline of 18 days from now to pay the printers, so we're in a corner. For those who haven't seen already, I am back in school. What does this mean? Well, it means that Everlasting Snow chapters are probably going to be slow in coming. I'm predicting that that won't happen and I'll still get one or two out a day because I'm a master procrastinator. That, and we're so close to the end of the fiction, so it's kind of that "you're in the home stretch" kind of feeling.
Aah, yeah. That's right. It's ending. Coming to a close. I know, I know, it's sad for me too. If it weren't for the workload that I already have from school, I wouldn't know what to do after it's over. I know that I'm really going to miss it though...all the comments and stuffs. BUT IT'S NOT OVER YET, SO WHAT AM I SAYING.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far! I would like to reiterate that I am looking for "cutting edge" stuff. I like some of the old designs that have a futuristic feel, such as Landmates from Appleseed, and all the Macross stuff, but I just can't consider a 20+ year old design to be cutting edge. Gundam definitely doesn't qualify.
