How to be successful with commissions? How to be successful with commissions?9 months ago in Personal More Like This
Hello dear readers!
After being on deviantart and other places and making commissions for few years I have gathered quite a bit of experience. I do try to help others with advices if I am asked. It seems to me, that the best thing is to make a journal entry with summarized guidelines for people who make commissions.
I hope you will find this helpful and enjoyable. Read on!
To sell anything (pictures, writing, crafts...etc) you need first to be seen by others. Here how you can make that happen, these all I have observed over the years from others.
The initial part - get to be seen:
join social sites - not only deviantart account, but facebook, tumblr, twitter, etc...
display your works there - sha

UPDATE (7/21/14): Got the job, moving to Cali! Commissions will have to close, sadly. Those who had pending commissions will still of course receive theirs. :]
Hey folks! Thanks for stopping in. I know it's been a while but I've opened for commissions again.
INFORMATIONS! Please read before commissioning!
1. Commissions must be paid for in full prior to work on the piece starting. Paypal only.
2. You CAN order multiple commissions provided there are slots open for them.
3. I reserve the right to decline a request based on subject matter/content.
4. Small corrections can be made to the finished product if necessary, but major changes/complete overhauls will require additional payment.
5. You have the right to use the image for personal purposes, but if you plan on commercially profiting from it (ie., selling / redistributing), the price will have to be adjusted accordingly.

How to be a good subject for your photographer! You should try to:How to be a good subject for your photographer!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
- Instantly listens to quick prompts / direction.
- Be open to any critique mid or after shoots!
- Have a decent understanding of what the photographer is looking at (light/framing)
- Pose naturally and (if in Cosplay) act in character .
- Be confident for the duration of the shoot.
- Avoid being self concious.
- Be aware of the direction of light (to avoid unflattering shadows, etc)
- Loosen up! Literally. Shake your limbs and relax your muscles from time to time.
- Avoid squinting. If the sun is too bright you will naturally squint. Close your eyes and ask the photographer to do a count down.
- Throw ideas at your photographer. Be creative.
So there you go.. If you want to make life incredibly easy for your photographer try and nail the above points.
While I'm shooting I need 100% trust from my subject. I also can't have anyone disagreeing with my requests however odd they are (unless I ask em to do something dangerous, lol).
This completely breaks my creative flow
FAQHere I've compiled a list of the questions I get asked the most often ^_^FAQ4 years ago in Personal More Like This
1) How long have you been making miniatures?
I started out in July of 2008 with a book by Sue Heaser called Making Doll's House Miniatures with Polymer Clay. It's a fantastic book with very easy to follow tutorials on everything from miniature potatoes to Tiffany style lamps. I was amazed at how such simple clay techniques could produce incredibly realistic results. From there I started using pictures of real food as a reference and it's spiraled into an obsession ever since!
2) Where do you purchase your plates and other miniature accessories?
Luckily there's a local miniatures shop called Little Enchantments (http://www.littleenchantments.com) that has anything doll sized you could possibly ask for. I've also bought dishes and all sorts of cutlery from Ebay.
3) Do you make the plates or just the food?
I only make the food ^_^ The only n

YEAH GUYS we want a mascot! Read on for guidelines, rules and prizes!
What's this contest about exactly?
A group mascot is basically a little character that the group displays on its homepage as a,,, well, a mascot! Mascots are just a fun little patron for the group, a symbol sort of. If you enter, your job will be to design a character like the one I just described. The winning character will be selected by the mods, and judged by quality of design and not necessarily artistic skill.
What should the mascot look like?
The mascot should look like a humanoid, anthro, or kemonomimi. It does not have to be themed on adoptables, but by all means it can be! It should be able to be chibi-fied, too.
The mascot should not

2014 Yaya Han Calendar - it's here!I thought now would be a good time to make the calendar available to the public since they were shipped out to me yesterday! After the successful trial run of last year's calendar, I wanted to make an even better cosplay calendar for 2014!2014 Yaya Han Calendar - it's here!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
To summarize: The 2014 Limited Edition Yaya Han Calendar features 12 months of new cosplay images printed on glossy 11x17 paper, which flips open to a 11x24 calendar. Out of the 12 monthly images, only 2 have been released before, all others are brand new and shot exclusively for the calendar. None of the images will be available as a print or poster, you will only be able to see them in the calendar.
FREE shipping within USA and Canada, $10 shipping everywhere else! It is again $24.99, just like last year, and will be signed and personalized by me! I'll post some teaser pics soon but you get a great idea of the calendar's look from the cover and back cover alre

Printing your own manga: Ka-Blam, Lulu or else?Greetings everyone,Printing your own manga: Ka-Blam, Lulu or else?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Since a lot of people here are manga artists, I was wondering if I could ask you something:
Do you print your own manga?
I've been visiting some PODs websites (Print On Demand) and so far, when it comes about publishing your own comic or manga, I've stumbled on KA-BLAM.com & LULU.com. I've read reviews from people who have used their services in the past and the opinions are quite mixed. I heard about ComiXpress, but it goes shot down...
Anyone among you ever experienced one of these printing services? And how was it? Who is better among these two? Please let me and everyone else hear about it. Thank you.
Of marketing and creators.Really interesting and thought-provoking entry by Moonie-Dreamer on marketing one's work:Of marketing and creators.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I posted in the comments there, but wanted to archive this in my Journal Entries for future reference, as well as give a heads up to people interested in the topic. It's certainly an important one!! This is less actual for people with a dependable 9 to 5 job, but for a freelance artist it's a must to consider these things, since you never know which of your promotional efforts will get you a job (or which won't). For example, I never would have gotten the TOKYOPOP publishing offer if I hadn't joined the GirlAMatic and WirePop comics collectives; and I wouldn't have been invited to _those_, if I hadn't been putting my comics and things on my own website in the first place
