How to determine what you should charge for your work
In light of the absolutely horrendous commission page DA started up which encourages artists to sell their work for literally pennies, let me talk about pricing artwork. Or more specifically, how I price my work.
This...guide? Advice? Thing? Highlights what I've learned about pricing throughout the last few years. I do not touch on the subject of beginner pricing, simply because there are no set guidelines for that and beginner pricing usually ends up being extremely subjective. This guide assumes that the reader is somewhat experienced in their craft and is looking for pointers on pricing. However I still highly encourage beginners to read! This is what pricing should be like, not mere pennies for hours upon hours of work. This also focuses on crafts and sewing but a lot of it is s

St. Patrick’s Day:
A Pinch of Green
St. Patrick’s Day
Legend has it Patrick was the son of a Christian deacon spreading the Faith in Roman Britain in the 4th century. The 16-year-old boy was kidnaped and enslaved in Gaelic Ireland. Six years later, God supposedly spoke to Patrick, telling him a boat awaited him on the coast to take him back home. The escape was successful. He later returned to convert the pagan Irish to Christianity, eventual

Mask Tricks: Parchment, Moleskin, & Signatures| How to Join & Submit | Monthly Challenges | Mask-Making Topics | Group Twitter |So I thought I'd share a few little tricks I've learned lately during my experimenting with the leather mask-making process!Mask Tricks: Parchment, Moleskin, & Signatures3 years ago in Personal More Like This
For the longest time, I had been trying to find a good way to keep my masks from touching the oven rack or pans when I bake them, resulting in that nice brown grill mark across the back of my masks. I tried wax paper, but the wax would heat up and cause a resist texture to show up on the masks when I dyed them (actually results in a cool effect on the masks, for future reference when you want to do this *on purpose*). Using foil scrunched into a ball would only conduct the heat right into the mask, resulting in brittle masks and burnt edges.
Finally, I rando

Dark Figures: Doctor Who Brings Van Gogh to Life
This review contains plot spoilers about an episode of Doctor Who (S5: E10 “Vincent and the Doctor”). If you have not seen it, read ahead only at your own peril.
One of the great joys of having a television series in which the protagonist is able to travel through time and space is that occasionally you get to feature some of history’s

Days of Doodles
Mindful Meditation of Daily Drawing
Foreword by techgnotic
Gabriel Picolo is a graphic design student in Brazil who has provided at least two people—me and himself—a most compelling reason for getting out of bed every morning in 2014. He calls it the 365 Days of Doodles Project, for which he creates, each day, one of his wildly imaginative pencil sketch and ink drawings (quite a bit more elevated than a “doodle”—more like a free-flowing meditation).
How to get noticed on deviantART!:faq56:How to get noticed on deviantART!2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I've had many people ask me this question so I'm going to elaborate the best I can.
As the FAQ above states, to get far on deviantART you HAVE to give feedback to get it. It's almost virtually impossible for you to get noticed without doing any of that. I learned that after a year of being here.
This is something that you will have to do in your dA lifetime in order to find your inspirations and be able to learn new techniques. When on the front page of deviantART it's probably the most diverse amount of artwork you'll see! Ranging from pixels to sculptures, tattoos to anime to poems, there has to be at least one that can catch your eye! There are millions of deviants here and even more submissions! Try searching for artworks that please you. You can even have a randomized search by using stuff like the random d
Character Design: An introductionCharacter Design: An introduction2 years ago in Art Features More Like This

What does 'Character Design' mean?
The character design is the process which comes after the characterisation and consists in defining the character through his/her physical appearance.
We need to consider a character as a little fictional creature, human or not, that aims to please its creator and the public as well.
While the basic characterization of this fictional creature (his tastes, his fears, his behaviors) may take a little mental effort, as it is a sort of list of emotions, facts and feelings that come and go in the life of a character, the process of visual realization of this creature may not be as simple. That's why many writers and characters creators prefer to rely on experienced hands.
Also many of the mental aspects of the character are not possible to gain by using 'static' visual medium. For 'static' I mean all the illustrations and drawings unable to tell a
