Just some Thoughts- Sort of rant/personal stuff, I guess? Just a little warning for those who don't like this stuff!Just some Thoughts3 months ago in Personal More Like This
When you post things online, it'll get taken, stolen, edited, usually horribly at that, you won't get credit or people will pretend they drew it. Worst being when they steal your work to make a profit. This is something that happens and nothing can really stop it, not watermarks or anything and it's a preference not to do those, I certainly don't want to put such things on my art, others don't mind So you post online despite the risk and learn to just not care about it.
My only, prominent thought on this is; If you love this artist so much, wouldn't you want to respect them? I don't understand this mentality of doing something that clearly hurts most artists. If I loved someone's art so much that I wished I drew exactly like it, that I was tempted to pretend to be them, I would be in awe by them, and I would hate to make them feel bad. These people have a tendency to act like a huge
On pricing your artwork and creating a career...I am going to be speaking at an "Entrepreneurship In The Arts" program later today, and I've been organizing my thoughts. One subject that is certain to come up; "how do you arrive at a fair price for your original artwork?" I have some definite ideas regarding that question. On pricing your artwork and creating a career...2 months ago in Personal More Like This
I was always told that the accepted model for artists and artisans, when it comes to pricing, was double your costs for materials, figure out an hourly price (double that for your retail price if you plan to have wholesale/retail differentials), add it up and there's your item price. I think this model is pure bullshit.
I was also told "charge what the market will bear!" Again, vague bullshit. What if you live in a depressed area? What if you live in a third world country? What if you're at some artist's ally at a little convention and there is a kid sitting next to you selling her character sketches for $5 each?
Here is what I think. There are so many variables when it comes to pricing original art. Yo
about photoshop and hard work...damn it!WARINING- EITHER READ THIS COMPLETELY OR DON'T BOTHER, AS THAT IS ONE OF THE CHARACTER TRAITS THIS JOURNAL IS ABOUT!about photoshop and hard work...damn it!6 months ago in Personal More Like This
okay, so after a swarm of questions many of which left me with my jaw on the floor... i realized something...
people are afraid of pushing a button to see what it does
okay, to backtrack first. i am self taught in photoshop, had no books had no tutorials, had a borrowed i think 7... dunno which was before cs2 when i started, i learned it by ....pressing a button and seeing what it does
i explored, i tried stuff out.
i had no teachers no schools no education on this stuff
i saw a button i pressed it.
that is how about 9 years ago when i first decided to try and apply digital coloring to early pages of ravine, i was dabbing paint on a page. i came to the point where i had to paint a waterfall. so , just for fun i tried putting scattering on the foam brush i made, a simple thing. and i was gonna see if smudge could be scattered. it had a weird side effect.

I was requested to feature this project cause many of you will mostlikely take interest on it + it's for a super good reason! If you're an artist and capable of doing commissions and rather than recieve money would like to help wild animals, this is your thing! Or in the other hand, if you're a commissioner and would like to get art and have the money go for a good reason - you can find artists from this project to commission! I shall copypaste a message from the organizer of this project cause they explain it much better than I can!
" We are looking for artists to project the nature- we are looking for you!
Do you like wolves, tigers, birds of prey, otters, snow leopards, pets, ocean animals, wild bees or bats?
Do you draw your own artwork and would you like to make a contributionto protect our beautiful nature?
If so the international “Naturama project 2013” is your chance tobecome an active part in saving
