The Coltello Killings Chapter 1Ignoring Parents and Trusting Strangers
"Mom? Dad? I'm home," I called when I walked in the front door after school. "Hello?" I thew my backpack on the floor and walked through the living room into the kitchen. There was a note on the counter.
We are sorry to leave you alone, but something has come up. We have asked your grandfather to call and check on you later. Please, keep the curtains closed and the doors locked. Do not have any friends over, do not leave the house, and do not open the door to anyone. We will see you tomorrow.
Love, Mom and Dad
I sighed and said aloud, "Why? Why can't a fifteen year old girl have a Friday night with her friends?" I sat on the couch and turned on the TV. Sometime later, the doorbell rang. I looked out the window, but I didn't see anyone. Ignoring what my parents said, I opened the door.
"Hello," a guy in a black hoodie said. "Are you Anna?"
"Why do you want to know?" I asked. "And who are you?"
"I'm sworn to secrecy. Just come with me.

He had just begun happily munching on his muffin when Donovan popped her head through his door, “We’ve got a domestic case I think you-“
“Not our division,” he called nonchalantly, taking another bite of his muffin, and you stepped into the doorway, “How about a favor for a friend then?”
His eyes went wide as he choked on the mouthful he’d just taken and you gave Sally a nod as you stepped into his office and shut the door behind you. You’d already gotten her to promise not to mention anything about this to anyone, surprising

I kissed you twice in that park,
Once because I wanted to,
And once again
Because you asked me to.
Then we walked back to the mall
And warmed up in a coffee shop
Before my mom picked us up
To take us back to my house.
There we went through your things
To make them all manageable
For you to carry home,
Then found something to watch.
You munched on popcorn,
Curled up next to me,
And put your bare feet
Up on the couch
Beside your legs.
I wrapped my arm around you,
Moving only occasionally
To keep it from falling asleep.
We were both content
Up until you had to leave.
I wanted to walk you home,
Since my mom was busy with work,
And you lived within walking distance,
But you insisted
To go on your own.
I settled for giving you
A goodbye kiss.

You trudged down the stairs, rubbing your eyes as you came into the living room only to jump when they found Sherlock in his chair. You snapped your head to face forward and then consciously avoided that area, slipping into the kitchen in search of John.
You found him, as usual, making tea and quietly began poking at Sherlock’s science equipment on the table, you’d always been interested in the oddly colored liquids he worked with and wondered briefly what would happen if you mixed two of the vials together.
John happened to look up just as you got a wicked smile on your face and picked up a vial with something blue in it, “Pu

I woke up this morning
Not to the smell
Of my mom's breakfast,
But to your ringtone.
You said in my ear,
"So I know that
We're supposed to go out
And do something fancy,
But how would you feel
About me coming over
In sweats or pajamas or something
And celebrating the beginning
Of autumn with laziness?"
I sat there staring,
Slowly letting your words seep in,
Then mumbled a yes,
Which didn't really fit your question,
Making you laugh.
It surprised my mom
When you showed up
In your pajamas,
But she didn't care,
And we sat in the living room
Curled up together
And binge watching
Your favorite show.
It wasn't my favorite,
But on a sad episode,
You clung to me,
And I couldn't have been happier
To be here for you.

He certainly had a lot to think about with everything that had happened so he started with the most trivial, the fact that Moriarty’s name had come up. This wouldn't be the first time it had but since the pool incident his presence had been suspiciously lacking. Still, it wasn’t surprising that he’d been behind the stolen Monet, though it was unfortunate that his pawn had been connected to you.

Only getting snagged on something
My teacher was happier than I was
That I entered the contest.
She told me I could expect the results
To arrive early January.
How would I wait that long?
With you, I probably could.
I called you after school,
And we chatted for hours,
Even while I had to stay home
And pass out candy.
It wasn't until
Long after we'd hung up
That I remembered
Was still hanging
In the corner of my closet.
Was it really a full year ago
When you wore this
And we held hands?
It could have been
A few hours ago
For all I knew.

When the doorbell rang.

But I hugged you,
Pulling you up the doorstep
Before you said anything.

As my three cousins

Around my neck,
Leaning into my chest.
As we spent the day together,

It was going to be
To not see you every day.

Driving to your house
Was more stressful
Than asking you out.
I had to wait in your living room
For you to walk down the stairs.
You were wearing something new,
And it looked like your aunt
Is better at doing your hair
Than my mom is.
You said goodbye to her
With a hug,
And I shook your uncle’s hand
Before we got in my car.
I said before you buckled in,
“I know this might be weird,
To start our date in my car,
But I have something for you.”
You watched me silently
As I reached behind my seat
And pulled out a wrapped gift.
“My mom may have wrapped it,
But the present’s from me.”
You tore through the paper carefully.
It was closer to pulling it off, actually,
Because you didn't tear it,
But when you opened the box up,
And were those tears
Welling up in your eyes?

Without lifting your head.
You took the necklace out carefully
And held it in your hand,
