On the run - Chapter 5
Steve’s eyes quickly adapted the darkness in the room and as he got closer to the end, the more light started to appear. When he was almost near the back, lights flickered on, revealing an old set up of computers.
‘I don’t understand,’ you started, looking around you, seeing the same old technology as Steve did. ‘This technology is as old as you are. No offense, but how could this possibly be the platform Zach was talking about?’
‘What about that?’ Steve said, pointing at the USB portal that was standing on the dusty desk. ‘That seems less than 95 years old.’
You picked the S.H.I.E.L.D. drive from your bag and clicked it onto the portal. As you let go of the drive, all the computer and machines were activated and the tapes started turning. You both looked around you, astonished by how big the room was and how many computers were standing in rows behind and next to each other.

You walked out of the store together with Steve, both taking in your surroundings.
‘You sounded surprised about Wheaton,’ you started. ‘You know it?’
Steve nodded, putting his hand on your lower back and pushing you around the corner. ‘I used to, but let’s discuss our past later, shall we? They’re here. Standard tac team. Two behind, two across and two coming straight at us. If they make us, I’ll engage, you hit the south escalator to the metro.’
‘They won’t make us if we act casual, captain,’ you smiled, looking up at Steve and pulling his arm around you.
He frowned at you as you pulled him closer, laughed and hit him softly on the chest.
‘What?’ you smirked, as Steve looked over his shoulder, suprised to see the two members of the S.T.R.I.K.E. team walk past you. ‘It’s not like we haven’t been that close yet today.’

You were going through your things quickly. The agents would probably be here within minutes, but if you were going on the run there were certain things you needed. You put the gun you kept at home in the back of your pants and stuffed everything you needed in the bag you had taken from Maria’s office, along with the files she told you to look at.
As you walked back into your living room, Steve just pulled your ex-boyfriend’s shirt over his head. You stared at his muscles, swallowing hard, until Steve had put on the vest and was walking towards you.
‘Thanks for the clothes…’ Steve said.
‘Don’t worry about it,’ you smiled. ‘My ex never picked them up after we broke up. It’s a coincidence that they fit you. Would you like something to drink before we go?’
Steve shook his head. ‘There is no we, [Name]. I have to do this by myself.’

‘[Name]…’ a soft whisper and a tug on your arm, woke you up.
You felt a sharp pain in your side and your head was feeling like someone punched you repeatedly in the face. Your lungs were full with dust and you gasped for air as Steve moved the large piece of the building that had collapsed above your heads.
‘Come on!’ Steve cried out softly, lending you his hand, making it easier for you to climb out of the hole. ‘Are you alright?’ he asked, inspecting you from head to toe once you had climbed outside again.
‘I’ll be fine. Let’s go!’
Steve nodded, ducking as helicopters flew over the collapsed building, lowering several men down with ropes. Steve took you by the hand and led you towards the back entrance of the camp, into the woods. He gestured you should be quiet as he pushed you down to the ground slowly.
When all the HYDRA agents had left the camp, you quickly ran bac

‘So,’ you started, looking at the blueprints of Fort Meade on Zach’s computer. You were standing beside the road only a few miles from Fort Meade and were discussing the plan. ‘The suit is locked away in this room. Three floors up the south stairwell at the end of the hall to the left. I will go inside with Sam, and Zach and Steve, you will stay outside to navigate us through.’
‘Wait,’ Zach objected. ‘Why are you going in? No offense, sis, but I think Captain over here is way more qualified to break into an army base.’
Steve placed his hand on Zach’s shoulder and nodded to you. ‘We discussed it together and we think the risk of them recognizing me is too high. Besides, your sister is more than capable of taking care of herself.'
‘If you say so…’
‘Once we have the suit, our cover will be blown,’ you continued. ‘We will have thirty seco

There was no time to worry about Steve, as the winter soldier opened fire again, this time with an automated gun. Others had joined him, firing at you repeatedly. You quickly ran behind a car and fired at the soldier with the couple of bullets that were still left in your gun.
‘Sam are you okay?’ you cried out, looking behind you, seeing Sam taking cover behind one of the other cars.
‘I’m fine! Who the hell is this guy?’
‘There's no tome to explain. I’m out of bullets!’ you yelled again, tossing away the now useless gun. ‘I’m going to go check on Steve. You try to get your hands on one of those guns.’
‘What? Are you insane?’ Sam screamed after you as you ran away from the car and jumped to the other side of the freeway, rolling between the cars.
‘I thought we had already established that!’ you smiled, pushing yourself from the floor and hiding beh

Steve was standing outside the cave on a bridge, overlooking the water. He visualized the day when his mother had died back when we was just skinny Steve Rogers. Bucky had insisted he would stay at his place, not wanting Steve to be alone. Steve had kindly declined his offer, but he could still remember the words Bucky had spoken to him. I’m with you to the end of the line, pal. It was hard to accept that the winter soldier was that same man.
‘Getting some fresh air as well?’ you asked sweetly, joining him on the bridge and waking Steve up from his daydream. You folded your arms into each other and leaned over the railing, staring into the distance.
Steve nodded, looking at you while you closed your eyes and smiled as the wind blew up your [hair color] hair. Steve thought you were unexplainably beautiful and in that moment as the wind blew the color back in your face, Steve promised himself he was never going

‘[Name]!’ Steve screamed into the earpiece. ‘Sam, please tell me you caught her.’
You opened your eyes again, feeling the wind caress your skin. You looked up to Sam, who was holding you into his arms, flying you back to the ground.
‘I did. She’s fine.’
‘Thank God…’ Steve sighed. ‘[Name], don’t ever scare me like that again. Sam, I’m gonna need a lift.’
Sam put you on the ground, letting go of you when he had made sure you were okay.
‘Go,’ you nodded. ‘I’ll be fine.’
Sam didn’t let you tell him twice and took off again, leaving you to figure out what you should do next.
‘Maria, how much time do we have?’
‘Under five minutes. Captain, you’ll need to be fast.’
‘Got it,’ Steve replied.

Steve walked into the elevator on the top floor of S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters. He had just had a conversation with Alexander Pierce, one of the counsel members of S.H.I.E.L.D. and a friend of Fury. The conversation had however left him with the chills. The way Pierce had spoken to Steve had left him with more questions than answers. Besides that, Fury had told him not to trust anyone. Not even his friends. That was why he had let Natasha go with Maria. He didn’t know if he could trust either of them, even though his gut told him he could.
When Steve had told the elevator where he wanted to go, the doors started to close. Before they closed completely however, Rumlow and several other S.T.R.I.K.E. team members walked into the elevator, pushing Steve a bit further to the back.
Their hands were on their guns and Steve frowned while his heart started to beat faster as he tried to figure out what was going on. The elevator stopped aft

Steve was sitting in an armored truck. Heavy metal chains on his wrist prevented him from punching anyone. He was staring out in front of him, thinking about the winter soldier, Bucky, his friend. He could only imagine what HYDRA had done to Bucky for him not to recognize his best friend anymore. He re-lived that day on the train over and over again, until his head felt like it was going to burst. He couldn’t believe how stupid he had been for not searching for Bucky. Now HYDRA had made a weapon out of him and it was all Steve’s fault. Or at least that was how it felt.
He sighed, looking up at you while you moaned softly. There was a large cut on your lip from where one of the S.T.R.I.K.E. team members had hit you in the face for knocking him unconscious in the elevator.
‘Are you okay?’ Steve cleared his throat, seeing the pain in your eyes and the spreading bloodstain on your side.

Steve pushed Jasper Sitwell through the door that led to the roof of one of the buildings in New York. You had dropped off Zach at his house and had followed Jasper Sitwell around for several hours, until he was finally approachable. He hadn’t really been cooperative to this point and it was time to scare him a little. Enough for him to open up about everything that was going on within S.H.I.E.L.D..
‘Tell me about Zola’s algorithm,’ Steve said, walking through the door determinedly. You were only a few steps behind him.
‘Never heard of it,’ Jasper said nervously, picking himself of the floor.
‘Oh, please,’ you scoffed. ‘Like we believe that.’
Steve nodded. ‘We know you’re HYDRA, Jasper… What were you doing on that ship?’
Jasper kept taking steps back, while Steve and you kept taking steps forwards, until Jasper had no way to go, but down.

A soft beep filled Steve’s ears. Every single bone in his body hurt. He couldn’t remember how he had ended up here, but he was definitely in a hospital. A monitor was beeping next to his head and as he had finally figured out what had happened, he started to wonder why he was still alive.
He turned his head, as he felt a soft tug on his arm. You were sleeping next to him, holding his hand while you lay in the chair. You were wearing a hospital gown and he could see the bandage on your shoulder and the stitches on your lip and brows.
Steve smiled, looking at you while you were sleeping. He liked the warmth of your hand in his. He squeezed your hand slightly and brought it up to his lips to press a soft kiss on the back. The sun was shining brightly, while Steve was driving his bike through the streets of New York. He liked the feeling of the wind tugging his hair and the tingling sensation the warm sunrays spread over his skin.
He had just been at the Smithsonian to look at the special exhibition they had put up in his honor. He didn’t know how he felt about that. They made him out to be a superhero, but he doubted he could live up to that. Sometimes he just wished he could have a normal life. A life with a family, friends… even a girlfriend or just someone to love.
Steve swallowed hard thinking about that as he drove up to the elderly home Peggy was staying in. He parked his bike on the parking lot and made his way over to the entrance. He had been here a couple of times, but it was still hard walking through the halls, knowing he should have been here, with her.
He smiled at the nurse behind the check-in desk and turned the corner to g

After you had finished breakfast, you and Steve had told Sam everything that had happened and were now discussing what you should do.
‘So, let me get this straight,’ Sam started, looking from Steve to you, and back. ‘S.H.I.E.L.D. has been infiltrated by HYDRA, which was supposed to be gone for over 70 years. This doctor Zola wrote an algorithm to use Project Insight for some evil plan HYDRA has been cooking on for the last couple of decades, and you are the only two that are trying to stop it, or even know about it?’
Both you and Steve nodded. ‘The algorithm must change something within the program that is already installed in the Helicarriers,' you mumbled, 'but I just can’t figure out what…’
‘Fury said Project Insight was going to be used to neutralize terrorist threats before they even happen, but what good would that do for HYDRA…’ Steve continued.

I'll Be Home for Christmas (Steve Rogers x Reader)It had been a long and depressing mission - three months of constant exposure to poverty, suffering, and death in war-torn Ukraine. Hydra had teemed up with a radicalized band of Russian Neo-Communists in an attempt to restore the Soviet Union, with plans to take over even more countries over time. There had been an initial month of warfare in the area. S.H.I.E.L.D, the Avengers, American soldiers, Ukrainian soldiers, and even reinforcements from Britain had unleashed the full potential of their firepower to deliver a crushing blow against the uprising.I'll Be Home for Christmas (Steve Rogers x Reader)1 month ago in General Fiction More Like This
After a month of intense battles, most of the foreign soldiers had gone back to their homelands. Most of the Avengers were forced to return home as well. Clint and Natasha had both been injured, Thor was needed in Asgard, Tony' suit sustained too much damage to be of any use, and Bruce desperately needed a break from hulking out. This meant that you and Steve would be the only Avengers left in
A Daughter's Wish (Steve Rogers x Reader)(Name) stepped into the elevator after a successful, and tiring, day of grocery shopping and leaned her head against the cool interior to close her eyes. She had been Pepper Potts assistant for three months and already wished she turned down the job. There were some good things about (Name)’s job though. One being that the paycheck she got was huge. This made the once-in-a-blue moon shopping sprees very fun, if you could call spending three hours in a bookstore fun. The second was that she lived in Stark Tower and never had to worry about being late for work. The final reason was the people. Even though Tony Stark was one annoying man and Mrs. Potts was the epitome of overbearing, Steve Rogers and Bruce Banner were the sweetest people (Name) ever met, and s

'If you like her that much, why don't you ask her out?' Natasha told Steve, while she sat behind Tony's desk at Stark Tower, overlooking the training room and going through some reports.
'What makes you think I like her?' Steve frowned, looking inside the training room and watching you help Clint get all the arrows, he had shot during training, back. Tony didn't seem to be very pleased about the holes in the walls.
Natasha laughed, turning around to face Steve. 'Oh, come on! I'm not blind and neither is she. I bet she is dying for you to ask her out.'
'I remember a certain captain once said finding a girl in the same 'line of business' was hard, well, open your eyes, cap. I think you found her.'
Steve smiled, watching you run around the training room together with Clint and dodging all the projectiles that J.A.R.V.I.S. fired at you. You took the two Asgardian blades - a present from Thor, since you were not Asgardian yourself - from your back and turned them around in your

You were walking through the mall, constantly looking over your shoulder. You had lost your guns along the way, but they wouldn’t do any good in such a crowded place. Steve’s steady breathing was only a few steps behind you. You had been able to lose the men that had been chasing you for over 15 minutes, but you knew they would find you again eventually.
It was supposed to be a simple mission, but it had turned out rather differently. There had been no bomb underneath the mall, only several men waiting for you with guns. Steve had saved you from the first ray of gunfire and now you were walking through the mall, trying to find a way out of this mess. There was no sugar-coating it; Steve was miserable.
(Name) had been assigned on a mission hundreds of miles away from DC, and SHIELD wasn’t sure when she’d be back.
It was a dangerous mission, sure. But it’s not like he was overtly concerned for her well-being. She was a level seven Agent. She could handle herself.
Nevertheless, he couldn’t help but feel incredibly lonely, sitting by himself on the couch and watching The Andy Griffith Show reruns on TV. It was always more fun when (Name) was with him, attempting to explain some of the odd, outdated technology he’d missed out on while he was frozen during the 50s. They also enjoyed laughing at/mimicking the Southern drawl every character had. But since she wasn’t here, there wasn’t a point.
By his feet, (Name)’s German shepherd Finn snored, snoozing happily next to his master’s husband. Steve sighed, breaking away from the TV to reach down and pet the adventurous dog, who made a cont
