Need faces? We've already had "Need references?" and "Need textures?", time for something else. This actually is about references again, but about these more specified ones. Emotions. How many times have you wondered why is that the faces you draw look as empty as dead? Depicting moods can be a very hard task. Try sketching yourself (yes, a mirror would be a nice thing to have in this case), pull faces at diffrent angles, change light. And take a look at these below. All of this is open-source and available to the general public free of charge. The books documented below cover all sorts of subjects from different eras, from anatomy to portraiture, fashion to architecture, from the works of Leonardo Da Vinci to the letters of Vincent van Gogh.

DD Whaaaaat? Thanks to all those who faved just about everything in my gallery, sorry I can't thank everyone personallyDD Whaaaaat?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Stuff I've faved recently:
So little timeSorry guys, I don't want to let anyone dissapointed...you know that the main reason I got banned is because of some explicit photos I have posted! I will continue posting nude pics but more censored ones...the least I want is to get banned again...Hope you like my photos anyway and to those who don't, I just don't give a f***. Just don't watch them, if you don't like them...that's how it goes...I work from Monday to Friday from 8.00 a.m to 15.00 a.m. so don't expect much on these days, I will probably post more photos during weekend!!!Thanks again for your support!!!! Million kisses & hugs to everyone!!!!!So little time2 years ago in Personal More Like This
P.S. Just an hour ago, I got my periods, so I will have to be off for a week, sorry no nudes for a while, maybe no new photos...but I will log in every day and I will be ready for new shoots soon!!! hehehe at least I am not pregnant!!!! Phewwww
Need references?Although drawing and painting "from life" is way much more effective and efficient than drawing from photos (I'll be writting a separate journal about this soon, no worries), you simply can't have a person to model for you every time you want to create something. And there are situations when you don't exactly know how to place that bloody hand or if the foot is drawn correctly. Similiar issues can happen with architecture, perspective... with everything you draw. Then, when you look for help, you may stumble upon Stock gallery and you find awesome things. Remember about crediting the used stock directly!Need references?6 months ago in Art Features More Like This

Photomanipulation walkthroughStep 1: Idea (message, composition)Photomanipulation walkthrough1 year ago in Personal More Like This
You decided that you want to make a photomanipulation. But what to make? There are so many photomanipulations already out there and mostly with the same theme. So you decide you don't just want to stick a pretty girl onto a beautiful background. No you want to be original and have your manipulation portray a message everyone can relate to.
Think of things that are important to you, that lay close to your heart. They can be emotions (love, hate, sadness, anger) or experiences, hobbies (art, sports etc), things you are struggling with. Or they can be global themes like (beauty, money, economy, eating disorders, war, relationships etc.)
Of course if you choose to portray something as love there are many ways to do so. Do you want it to be a surreal depiction of love, or dark, fantasy, sci-fi, conceptual, humourous... your choice will of course decide the whole 'feel' of the image.
So choose wisely as they say.
Now that you have your theme you nee

Photomanipulation-Related Submission FAQsHello everyone,Photomanipulation-Related Submission FAQs8 months ago in Digital Art More Like This
Sometimes with the flood of information these days, it becomes really easy to lose track of the basics of what you can and cannot do and what is and is not required for submission. I thought I would put together some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for the Photomanipulation Community. Many of these answers are also relevant to the rest of dA.
I hope this is useful as we move forward with PE: Photomanip Month!
Does my artwork need a mature tag?
deviantART defines mature content as "Mature content is considered to be anything which contains nudity, excessive violence, blood, gore, or any other potentially upsetting or offensive material" and suggests that images that are controversial, such as religion and politics, may also be considered "mature." But, the definition of "mature" is more broad than that. See :faq220:
So what does this mean for YOUR specific artwork? The FAQs also explain that: :faq554:

Learning to draw with Loomis: art book featureIf you want to become a better artist and you find that your own "How to draw" books, or the tutorials on the internet are lacking in scope, then this article is for you. I'm going to talk to you about some of the best books on making art that have ever been written - and that's not an exaggeration.Learning to draw with Loomis: art book feature2 months ago in Resources More Like This
These books were written around the WWII-era by a man called William Andrew Loomis. He was a very accomplished and widely published artist at the time, but what he's currently more well-known for is a series of art books he created during that time. These books have stood the test of time and their contents are still commonly used and recommended to art students of a wide range of skill levels, and if you're looking to improve your drawing skills, particulary faces and the human body, these books are a good place to start.
The major strength of his books is that they're not a step-by-step guide or tutorial on how to draw a specific picture, portrait or pose. Many art books fall into this ca

Wonderful resources for PhotographersHello lovelies! How has everyone been?Wonderful resources for Photographers9 months ago in Photography More Like This
I've been overwhelmed with the amount of questions and comments I've been receiving about how I edit my photographs, what Photoshop actions do I use, how I do I get a "soft" effect, etc. I've been trying to keep up in answering them all but I thought it would be much easier if I give an explanation / tutorial / information about my editing in this journal. My only ask in return is that you please "like" my Official Photography Page "Sarah Jane Photography" via Facebook - I do update frequently and give tips on photography & editing. There's even a bokeh video too!
Before I delve into resources to use... I want to say to all photographers and photoshop users that everyone has a unique way in editing, and everyone has personal styles in the way they want their 'finished' photo to look. I am deeply humbled that so many enjoy my photographs; every comment and critique is very meaningful to me. I started using Photoshop when I was 13, and I love playin
PE: Importance of AnatomyThe importance of anatomy.PE: Importance of Anatomy5 months ago in Art Blogs & Mags More Like This
Understanding anatomy is crucial to many aspects of your art.
You'll notice that anatomy is essential for drawing. It becomes difficult to accurately draw a complex pose, or even a simple one, if you don't understand what's under all that skin or fur, or even bark. Knowing how everything fits together is important.
Once you notice where that certain muscle is, shading and form become much more accurate and more natural. Knowing why the nose and eyes fall where they do make it much easier to draw from memory, and nail that natural look you were going for.
Learning the anatomy of the subject you're going to draw is quite important, and will definitely help you on several levels.
It's also easier to drawing sequences of movement. One will know what connects to what, and how they move. What is possible, and what isn't. (Range of motion)
Drawing people and other animals can be intimidating. Once you have a solid foundation, it's much easier
Anatomy booksI'm frequently asked how I learned to draw and the answer is very simple - a large part of my knowledge is self taught from books. That's why I thought it would be a good idea to share some titles I owned or came across and used them through the years. Hopefully someone will find this list useful :3Anatomy books6 months ago in Books/Graphic Novels More Like This
Books that are awesome:
"Anatomy for the Artist" by Sarah Simblet
"The Artist's Guide to Animal Anatomy" by Bammes Gottfried
Books that are good:
" Drawing the Head and Hands" by Andrew Loomis
"Figure Drawing for all it's Worth" also by Andrew Loomis
Books that are ok but from the time perspective I do not recommend them:
"How to Draw Heads and Portraits" by Jose M. Parramon
"Human Figure" by Jose M. Parramon
Books that are pure unrefined shit and should be burned on sight:
Anything from Christopher Hart
