dA Life #08: Hosting a Contest on dAWelcome to the eighth dA Life blog, a series created to help you enjoy your time on dA and use it's many tools for sharing your art, appreciating other people's art and taking part in the wonderful community that we have here.dA Life #08: Hosting a Contest on dA3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Hosting a contest on dA is a really fun way to inspire other artists and do something positive for the community. If you've never run a contest before, it can seem like a daunting task so to make it a little easier, here are some things to consider before you create your contest and open it to the deviant public...
Your contest should have a theme. It can be as vague (Aliens, Summer, Cats) or as specific as you like (Alien Cats in Summer). When choosing your theme, take time to consider it's appeal to your potential entrants. A less specific theme is likely to attact more people as the scope for entries is wider. It depends on whether or not you want your contest to be huge - sometimes, bigger isn't always bet
ShameA tear rolls down her cheek, her entire existence feels so bleak.Shame3 years ago in Personal More Like This
One of many mistakes runs through her mind, how on earth could she be so blind? She's filled with hatred, scars and shame gone through hell through the fire and flame. Cuts are healed yet still remain, it's only a memory of the pain.
PE: Preproduction is Key!Surprise! Contrary to what rydi1689 announced, I'm here to deliver one final article on Manga & Anime week! And it's pretty huge... prepare yourselves.PE: Preproduction is Key!2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Special thanks to my partner in crime, J-Cleo, for helping me write this!
Creating manga is quite daunting as a project. You have to worry about so many things and prepare for unforeseen problems. While I don’t claim to be an expert on the field, I can at least share with you my experiences while on a quest to create my own manga.
Bear in mind, this guide is geared towards individuals serious about entering the field or wanting to create a well-developed story. That doesn’t mean you can’t use this advice if you’re a hobbyist (more power to you!) but this focuses on taking it that extra step.
The Story Concept
The first thing you need should be obvious: the concept, or idea, for your story. This could be something you’ve had in your mind for a while, a sud
Being Real with PoesdaughterThere's nothing better than a good story...unless it's a good story that also happens to be true. And that's why we have an entire genre known as "creative non-fiction." It doesn't get a lot of press on dA, but essayists like David Sedaris and authors like Mary Roach and Jon Ronson routinely make the bestseller list, and rightly so. Creative non-fiction isn't limited to essays and memoirs.Being Real with Poesdaughter1 year ago in Literature Features More Like This
Which doesn't say what creative non-fiction is. Thankfully, better minds are on hand to answer that question.
While PoesDaughter is new to dA, she's no stranger to creative writing—her master's thesis is a series of creative non-fiction essays.
What is "creative non-fiction"?
Oh, geez. This very question always sparked interesting "discussions" in my creative writing classes in college, and I don't think anybody had like definitions! I mean, this is something that's been up for debate for...

Y no encontraba!

It's been awfully quite here as you may know XD. Soon I'm very close to the finals of this year's semester, so for that I haven't spend much time here in DA, I'm sure many people are in the same situation like me, and the thing we have in common is that we get so easily stressed at the finals, and you can't really stop worry about it either..I just hope I'll pass this and be done with it

I've wanted to tell you the truth for some time now. I want to tell you how I feel, and why I am how I am. I would tell you in person, but I can't muster the strength. So this letter will have to do. This is my side of the story.
At first, I thought it was just brotherly love, or admiration. I always wanted to be with you, and I couldn't stand it when I wasn't. When I got a little older, I realized that it was more than admiration. I saw I had a crush on you. It was sorta like how kids have crushes on their teachers. I thought it would just be a phase, that I would get over it. But as I grew up, my feelings only strengthened. These feelings didn't go away, and it scared me. I wanted to be more than just your brother. I loved you, but I saw I could never be with you. Unless we split. That was when I decided to leave. I didn't revolt to hurt you, or to make you less. I did it because I loved you too much. I had to stop being your brother, so I could have a chanc

Over the past few years, projecteducate has worked hard to provide educational articles for various art forms. Within literature, we've seen our fair share and over the past 2 years we've used our own group CRLiterature to manage these articles to ensure as much of the community can see them. However, sometimes we miss people and that's a shame because the articles we've written as a community have been pretty spectacular and still valid today.
So to help people pick up the articles they may have missed, here is a list of them all! This is a great chance for you to read what you may have missed, or tag your friends who may find them useful!

Welcome to HaikuWriMo Bingo!Greetings haiku enthusiasts, and have we got a surprise for you!Welcome to HaikuWriMo Bingo!1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
This month, during our first celebration of our HaikuWriMo, we'll be doing rounds of Bingo to help urge your creative spirits to get to haiku writing. There will be fun, and our prize pool is always on the lookout for more donations to either myself or betwixtthepages.
We've prepared a multitude of prompts from all but three of the group's genres to serve as the numbers for our gameboard, and we are also welcoming two new additions to the gallery, the Erotic genre for sensual content (but not explicit), and the Epistolary Genre for haiku letters.
Without further chattering let's get right into how this works, shall we? Here is the gameboard I'll be playing with:
