A MESSAGE to Bullies and those that are Bullied~To the bullies-A MESSAGE to Bullies and those that are Bullied~2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Why would you bully? Why would you cyber bully? Do you really think, that taking anger out on others helps? There are people everyday committing suicide for this reason. Maybe you should think to yourselves, that if that were you, the one being bullied, how would you feel? To be insulted, ignored? Just because you don't know this person online, it doesn't mean that there's a living, breathing person with feelings too, behind that screen. Just remember this- It takes just one word to hurt someone. It can kill them just like it can you.
And then to those who are bullied-
Don't listen to what others say. They are just words. Yes, they can hurt you. Try to ignore them. If it gets bad, maybe you should talk to someone about it. Don't go the long way out. Don't do something you might regret. Don't reply and go down to the same low level they're on. Listen to what you think of yourself, not what others think.

Congrats, guys (:
I came up with this idea when I installed commission widget on my page, in order to get more points for buying more premium memberships to talented deviants...
'cos I love making someone happy (:
2 random people who this journal will get a free photo editing of one of their images.
What is photo editing?
Photo editing is the changing of images. These images can be digital photographs, illustrations, or prints (photographs on film). Some types of editing, such as airbrushing, are done by hand and others are done using photo editing
To artists who want to offer commissions.I would like to address something I have been seeing as of late here and on other sites. Artists who are asking if someone would commission them if they were to offer commissions and if so, how much should they charge or how much are they willing to pay?To artists who want to offer commissions.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I say this with a real heart to all artists, but that is a foolish line of questions.
Really. I have been there. I even did those myself. But look at it from the side of a potential buyer.
1: Would you even commission me?
Can you imagine if a doctor were to say that? If I were to open an office would you even come to me? That makes the doctor feel like a failure. Like he has so little faith in his ability to do his job he is afraid to do it. So he has to ask a thousand people IF he were to open an office would ANYONE come? Would you? Or would you want a doctor who just opens it and does his job and believes in his ability to treat you?
Same with an artist. You sound like you have no f
What's Wrong With Praise? So this is another one of those artistic taboos we're never suppose to talk about, apparently. The idea of giving back positive feedback to an artist. It's seen as "coddling" as "babying" as "inflating the ego" and has such intense negative associations. It seems to be generally accepted that the only way to critique someone's work is to point out ONLY the negative parts. Any attempt to point out anything positive or something you liked about the work is seen as being unhelpful towards the artist's growth. What's Wrong With Praise?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
And frankly I think that's a bunch of hogwash.
Speaking from my own experience, I rarely ever get anything positive said about my work in a constructive way. I might get a lot of "good jobs" or people talking happily about my comics because they made them laugh, but I rarely if ever get any comments that go into detail explaining WHY I did something right. On the flip side, the amount of negative criticism and nitpicking is almost hilariously rampant, not just on my artwork but on th

The ancient battle was fought,
You held them back.
What I wouldn't give to see you again,
To see your smiling face,
To know you are with us.
But for now you are away,
Where you are healthy and can laugh,
I shall meet you there,
But not for many years.
So this is to say goodbye and good luck,
I hope you are safe in the land of the lost.

If you are considering going into the industry....If you are an artist or want to be one, especially if you want to get into the VFX industry, you should watch this:If you are considering going into the industry....1 year ago in Personal More Like This
It touches on a few things I feel are important to understand as an artist and even as consumers of art:
1.) Art is not an exact science. It can be difficult to put a price tag on it, let alone the often very complicated processes of making it.
2.) Computers are tools that facilitate our work but they DO NOT do the work for us.
3.) Don't get into this industry for the money. If you go into this line of work, you do it because you love it. If someone happens to get lucky or has a really great idea and he/she hits it big, GREAT! Good for him/her. But don't go in expecting that to happen to you. Chances are it won't. If you are lucky, you will find a nice middleclass job you can support yourself and your family on for a while...... until....
4.) Unfortunately, a lot of employers see artists as disposable. When they no longer need you, they will kick you to the curb an
Filed under 'M'....for 'Misplaced'As a kid, I always idolised those crazy characters in movies that worked in a chaotic environment, filled with papers and books. You know the ones? Objectification of MenAfter reading through the comments on my last journal about Tropes Vs Women in Gaming Part 2 I noticed a lot of people are angry we're even talking about sexism because (as they put it) "men are ALSO sexualized and objectified in gaming so women shouldn't complain that they are too."Objectification of Men2 years ago in Personal More Like This
And while that's a nice thought that sounds logical at first... any causal observer to gaming and most media today will be able to recognize that the two sides are not equal enough to make that sort of comparison. Here's the difference as I see it: Men are objectified and sexualized, yes, but it's not done for women. It's done for men. The objectification of men in gaming and other media is a self image fantasy FOR men. In other words, both the objectification of men and women are done for the benefit of men.
Not only that but again a casual observer will note that the standards of "beauty" are not at all equal on both sides. Female heros are all designed to be attractive, sexy, thin, sensual, pure,

reposted art removalI think a lot of people might already know this but having only recently found it myself. I think it's a good opportunity to share it with everyone! If someone has posted your art on deviantart without your permission, there's a really simple way of having taken down instead of filing a report (which, from experience is completely ineffective). All you have to do is fill out this form, it's a DMCA form which means as the copyright owner of the art you can elect to have it taken down, by law.reposted art removal1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I didn't find out about filing DMCAs on deviantart until I googled it (silly I know) but they have long existed on tumblr and I've also seen one on weheartit.com. Filing DMCAs seem to be a lot more effective, the art is taken down in a couple of days. And in the case with tumblr all reblogs of the post in question are also deleted, along

I know this is a little late, but it’s still an excellent read. This article that came out after the sorority murders in California a few months back details pretty succinctly the problem I and others have with how Nerd Culture treats women.
The article touches upon the narrative that a lot of nerds internalize, the idea that women are prizes to be “won” after a series of persistent attempts. The idea that jocks are dumb and nerds are smart, which is a concept even I bought into until fairly recently.
In fact, if I may, I would like to apologize for this strip from 2011: http://syacartoonist.com/things-i-will-never-understand and any others that I’ve done over the years that depict “jocks” as dumb brainless animals. It’s a narrative belief that I bought into and now understand isn’t as true anymore today as it was when I was in high school some 15 years ago.
But anyway, the article its
PainPain is a gift. Humanity, without pain, would know neither fear nor pity. Without fear, there could be no humility, and every man would be a monster. Stop humanizing wolves...[please]Just so this is clear: This has nothing to do with the term 'anthro' or 'anthropomorphism'. This is an article talking about REAL wolves, not fantastical depictions of them or even characters. By 'humanize' I mean the actual definition of it -- "make (something) more humane or civilized." -- "give (something) a human character."Stop humanizing wolves...[please]1 year ago in Personal More Like This

Alright, now before I get started I'd just like to say a few things so that people won't jump down my ass and call me some kind of asshole that hates wolves or thinks they should all die. I love wolves. They're beautiful, intelligent, and amazing creatures. They're part of the Earth's ecosystem and they belong in the wild where they are.
I studied the wolf for 10 years of my life (maybe more; I

Remember RememberPeople across the pond often explain Britain's "Bonfire Night"/"Guy Fawkes Night" as the UK's version of their July 4th celebration.Remember Remember1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Penchant for detonating sparking, explody things aside, they're not at all similar.
One is about a nation celebrating its independence (or the defeat of alien invaders, depending how strong your grip is on reality) the other is basically a nation trolling terrorists, rubbing their faces in failure.
That the thwarting of the November 5th gunpowder plot is remembered is arguably one of the two reasons why the Brits are universally unafraid of terrorism (the second being that Fair Blighty has faced down the largest war machines the world has ever seen. A random yahoo that wants to blow himself up is an irritant by comparison). You leave the nations of the UK alone and they fight among themselves in a 600mile long drunken brawl. However, if an outside force so much as prods them with a stick in a manner that they find remotely unpleasant, they unify
Anime: home of the arsehole.I can list a whole range of eastern-born cartoons that I think look absolutely gorgeous, and whose visual style I wish very much that I could emulate.Anime: home of the arsehole.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Only a handful of those, however, can I refer to as being "good". Or even "tolerable".
Having watched them for most of my life, going back to things like Mysterious Cities of Gold and the original Astro Boy, I can say with a certain degree of authority that: Japanese storytelling is a bit wank. Daring and dynamic visuals, sure. Crap narrative.
And it can't ALL be blamed on "bad translation".
There's a wide range of gripes to be had, but chief among them these days is that the major characters, those who one would assume you're to root for, across however many episodes the series consists of, are generally complete and utter dicks.
I'm currently wading through Gurren Lagann, a series which people have raved about for a while but which I'd not had the chance to watch until now (spoiler approaching, should you be in the same boat).
Line art, tracing and referencingI have been getting a few people asking to make Line-art out of my work or you know a trace of some artist piece so everyone can have a recolor of it.Line art, tracing and referencing1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Some ask, some just go ahead and do it, I'm NOT OK with you tracing someones work line for line and posting as your own for others to recolor, its a little insulting to the artist even more so if it was a commission.
Using someones else art to make bases or adoptables, is wrong and ruins the artist's original vision. There are 100's of free bases out there and cheap ones, you shouldn't be tracing work without permission for adoptable and bases.
Its ok to trace someones art for learning purposes, but it should never be posted! its even ok to highly reference peoples work for learning purposes, but don't post it! or at lest ask the artist for permission first before doing so.
I made a chart below to show the differences, hope that clears up some confusion.

A probable solution to commission chargebacks.Artists who create commissions know one caveat with accepting PayPal: their Seller Protection doesn't cover services, so they can and will be SOL if the buyer decides to dispute the transaction. While Buyer Protection doesn't cover services either, PayPal is notorious for ruling in the favor of the buyer, so the seller needs to look into other ways of protecting themselves.A probable solution to commission chargebacks.1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Which leads to our discussion here, of how we can leverage Seller Protection to ensure scamming buyers can't run off with the money after the service is completed -- by converting your commission service into a tangible product.
Seller Protection covers tangible products that can be shipped to the buyer, and by making a commission, you can take advantage of this by printing out your commission and mailing it to them. Right there, you have a tangible, physical item that is mailed to the buyer, and thus is covered by Seller Protection.
Adjust your commission information and terms of service to indicate the buyer is pu
