So Where Were You? [RotG Poem Non-Fiction]"My fellow Guardians, it is our job to watch over the children of the world and keep them safe... To bring wonder, hope, and dreams..."So Where Were You? [RotG Poem Non-Fiction]1 year ago in Personal More Like This
My wonder dwindled at an early age,
At seven, I think it was, when my parents divorced
And among all the pain and the hurt and the rage
Somewhere, my wonder took a turn for the worst.
I grew obsessed with death, and darkness, and rot,
And my thoughts were obscure distortions of the truth.
Naughty list? Didn't matter, no gifts anyway; So Santa Claus,
When my wonder abated, where were you?
My hope disappeared as the sun does at night,
It just withered away, like the light in the sky,
And while the clock ticked away, while my parents would fight
I would curl up and cry for you, wishing I'd die.
Now it seems, to be frank, life is painful and crummy
Forced to live in a warzone, while the soldiers ran few
Every year, I believed in you; I still do now. So Easter Bunny,
When my last hope had faded, where were you?
My dreams were infested by a frightenin
Policy StatementThis is ridiculous to me, but I guess to be 100% fair to all who visit this page, I ought to post this statement up front:Policy Statement3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I have made it clear from the outset that I am simply not interested in arguing with people with opposing views over the internet. To disregard that request is, in my view, trollish behavior. "Discussion" is a waste of my time. Every minute I spend "arguing" with someone (who has not arguments, but rather, beliefs) is a minute spent away from poastering, sending emails, making phone calls, trying to raise a little money, and other useful things to advance Occupy/Anon/anti-SOPA, and other progressive movements.
If someone wants to discuss on this page how to advance the goals of Occupy, Anon, anti-SOPA, pro-women, 'green,' etc., or, how to make these poasters more effective (including suggestions and requests), they will be welcomed and their comments will receive a courteous reply. If people want to exchange friendly, admiring, helpful, or even flirtatio
What's Wrong With Praise? So this is another one of those artistic taboos we're never suppose to talk about, apparently. The idea of giving back positive feedback to an artist. It's seen as "coddling" as "babying" as "inflating the ego" and has such intense negative associations. It seems to be generally accepted that the only way to critique someone's work is to point out ONLY the negative parts. Any attempt to point out anything positive or something you liked about the work is seen as being unhelpful towards the artist's growth. What's Wrong With Praise?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
And frankly I think that's a bunch of hogwash.
Speaking from my own experience, I rarely ever get anything positive said about my work in a constructive way. I might get a lot of "good jobs" or people talking happily about my comics because they made them laugh, but I rarely if ever get any comments that go into detail explaining WHY I did something right. On the flip side, the amount of negative criticism and nitpicking is almost hilariously rampant, not just on my artwork but on th

who don't like the main characters of something.
people who HATE the main character for no reason other than THEY'RE THE MAIN CHARACTER.
I MEAN IT'S GREAT IF YOU LOVE ANY OF THE OTHER CHARACTERS BECAUSE OF WHO THEY ARE, THAT'S ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM AT ALL.
BUT IF YOU JUST
HATE THE MAIN ONES
JUST BECAUSE THEY'RE "HOGGING THE SPOTLIGHT" OR "TOO MAINSTREAM" WHATEVER THE FUCK
GET HOW YOUR MIND WORKS.
IF THEY HAVE A GOOD STORY AND A LOVABLE PERSONALITY, WHY HATE THEM?
Really you guys?
Love what you love, but don't hate for no motherfucking reason.
I get poked at a lot because I tend to choose characters that get a lot of screen time- IS THAT SUCH A CRIME? REALLY? WHAT THE HELL GUYS.
OH LOOK AT ME I'M A FUCKING HIPSTER I HATE THIS CHARACTER BECAUSE THEY'RE LOVED BY TOO MANY OTHER PEOPLE. WHOOP-DEE-MOTHERFUCKING-DOO.
AND IF YOU DO ACTUALLY LOVE THE MAIN CHARACTER BUT YOU DON'T SHOW IT, GROW A FUCKING PAIR OF BALLS.

is hosting a new contest!
This contest is going to be a bit different from the contests we held in the past.
Since Deviant ART is such a friendly environment I decided you all deserve a present!
How are we going to do this?
It's quite simple (:
We are going to make presents for each other.
The idea is every one who wants to take place in this contest leaves a comment in this journal. Stating information about yourself that helps the person who comments before you. Because the person who will comments after you will make you a present!
Since the first person to comment can not make a present I will be the first one to comment.
And also the last one to comment will receive a gift. This will come from the contributors of our group!
This is how you enter

A poem about my day.I whisked away to go to Wal-Mart,A poem about my day.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
When I got there I walked into a fart.
I grabbed a cart and tried to pry it off the other one,
A lady asked me for spare change, dear god she must have weighed a ton.
I said to poor fat lady "Not today."
In which she replied "What are you gay?"
I asked poor fat lady "Why do need money? Why not ask some other men?"
She said "I really need alot of money, I need it to feed my children."
I looked into her cheeto stained shirt as she stood tall,
I said "Well you should have shared the food with your kids instead of eating it all."
I got what I needed and stood in the express line,
And of course there standing behind me is a loud man who smelled of wine.
He would not shut up OH it made me so mad,
Then he fell over and could not get up HA it made me glad.
The lady in front of me said "Could you go help that man",
I said "I wish I could but I am late for a tan."
She said "No really he looks like he is dead",
I looked over to the drunk with his legs all spread.
So you've decided to talk to an artistHey everybody, this is going around over on tumblr, but I feel like it's just as relevant here and it's a really good informational post for people that have/want to have good dealings and interactions with online artists. Because seriously, these are really good things to know. (I mean, I've been pestered by almost all of these at some point or another, and if people had read these they might have saved me a lot of annoyance) So give it a read if you'd like. The original post comes from www.phantom42.tumblr.comSo you've decided to talk to an artist10 months ago in Personal More Like This
Don’t tell an artist, “SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!" or "I would totally buy that!" if you’re not ready and/or willing to back it up with an actual purchase. Artists love that you love the piece, but often produce pieces/quantities based on apparent interest and potential customers. Gauges of potential buyers and gauges of general interest are both very important, but they are very different.

In other news, I finished the 3rd volume of Witch and Wizard!! \;o;/ It was so many pages, so SO many pages... But now it is done, and there was a cute story that happened while I was finishing it, I posted about it on my Facebook:
I have to run off now, but will be back with artses 8D
Hugs to everyone to wants them!!
Concerning re-blogging my comic.People please, could I kindly ask that if you want to re-blog my Moth and Flame comic on other sites like Facebook and Imgur, PLEASE don't post it with the April Fools page. That page isn't Moth and the Flame 17. It's called "Got Ya!". Without the explanation of what that page is it will create a lot of confusion to new readers and they won't know the story isn't over. I would really have appreciated if posters came to me first to ask permission, just so I could have got this point across.Concerning re-blogging my comic.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I really love that you want to share my work, but please respect the flow of the story. I updated and re-submitted the April fools page with a new title and explanation 12 hours after I first posted it and wrote a journal entry about the joke to clear up any confusion, and blogging that page as part of the story is creating a bit of a mess on other websites, without that context.
I'll have Page 17 up by the end of the weekend

One is a jaunty Bohemian while the other is a snappy Plague Doctor. AMAZING.

GraduatedSo, I guess I graduated...Graduated9 months ago in Personal More Like This
I've been a student my whole life. I don't remember ever not being a student. My mom's a preschool teacher, I used to go through her workbooks when I was little.
I went to college right after high school because I didn't trust myself to go through with it if I took more than that summer off in-between. I worked hard, I never missed any of my deadlines. I graduated magna cum laude.
So now it's like, I've got to be a real person now or something. If people ask what I do, I can't say "I'm studying illustration."
But like, am I just an illustrator now? I had to change my profile here because I'm not a "student" anymore. Am I really a professional? I have business cards, I have promo material...
But am I legit now? Because I walked across a stage and got a diploma cover? I don't know, it's weird.
I've just got this "now what?" thing happening. I'm going to take some time to chill and then... try to

PE Prose Basics: Pacing ( and Show vs. Tell)Hello, everyone! As you all know, this week over at projecteducate is Prose Basics. We're here to help all you prose writers (whether flash fiction, short stories, or novels) get better at your craft with some basic tips for growth. Today, I'm going to be talking about something you've probably heard about again and again: pacing.PE Prose Basics: Pacing ( and Show vs. Tell)1 year ago in Literature Features More Like This
What is Pacing?
No, it's not what you do when you're stuck on a scene and need to get up and stretch those leg muscles to get your writing juices flowing. It's actually a very important ability that writers have to control the speed their story is read. You as the author get to manipulate the reader in a way and make the speed of the story match the scene. What better way to drop the reader right into the moment? But, pacing also holds the ability to make or break your story and keep or lose your reader's interest. This is why it's so important in writing.
