For many of us, the first “art gallery” to command our attention (and constant, even daily, monitoring) in our
lives existed within the pages of the local newspaper. It was called “the movie section” and its ever-changing movie
advertisements were like little frames that rarely contained less than pure magic for young imaginations.
The Film Poster has existed since the earliest days of silent movies and the pulse-elevating excitement of the
first sight of an upcoming adventure, action, or sweeping love story that we might have only “heard good things about”
still packs a psychic punch throughout movie lovers today.

"Scars can come in handy. I have one myself above my left knee that is a perfect map of the London Underground."—Prof. Albus Dumbledore
Early life becomes an exploration of invisible parameters, circles beyond circles, as one pushes out to test the boundaries of safety. There is one’s bedroom, one’s home, neighborhood, school and town, state and nation. Early on, maps become important documents – declarations of being and rights and privileges. In the art world, throughout history, maps have been a constant measure of human progress, from the Phoenecians recording their trade routes over 2000 years ago, or pre-Columbian times in which map

Having been thinking a lot about the origins of our globally held Dragon mythos in a recent article Reptilicus Infernicus, I couldn’t help but notice the Cthulhu legend was always lurking at the edges of my mind as I was researching the subject matter.
The Enemy at the Gates, the “Other”, forever lurking in the darkness and plotting an invasion most evil and an enslavement most hideous, is probably the original seminal “narrative” that was born when humans first acq

A magic of effective art can be a drawing that appears to be a movie still, clipped from a film narrative, evoking a powerful sense of storytelling— and the viewer wants to know the rest of the story. This phenomenon has recently manifested itself on deviantART— and in a big way— once again.

Hello everyone!! It's been a while since I last held a stock challenge for stock artists but in the spirit of the new year here you go.
What if a mirror isn't all it seems. What if your reflection wants to keep you on your side? What if you are able to climb through a mirror but your reflection keeps standing in front of you, blocking your way? You try to touch the mirror without your reflection touching the same place. Maybe the cold surface isn't the mirror you're touching, but the cold flesh of your doppelganger, pushing back, keeping you on your side.
The theme is 'Through the Mirror'

Before we get into the thick of things, we didn’t have a photo of our huge plasma screens hanging from the convention ceiling to share in our Day 1 recap, so we vowed to get that to you today! The 11 foot wide screens stream amazing works of art from Artists' Alley participants to the whole convention floor!
In Comic-Cons past, the foot traffic In Artists’ Alley got busier and busier as the week progressed, and this year is no exception. There’s something magical about speaking one-on-one with a deviant, learning their experiences, hearing how they started as an artist, and how far they’ve come. It’s an emotional connection to make with someone who was practically a stranger a few moments ago -- and then you realize you’re not really strangers when you

nomination process with contrary positions to be taken during the general election, the campaign chief
replied that stated political positions were “like an Etch A Sketch,”—meaning they could simply be
flipped over, erased and begun over from scratch.
Were it that adult life were as simple as a happy Etch A Sketch memory from childhood.
(The campaign chief took heavy heat for his flippant, if truthful, statement.) The incident made
me wonder how many of us had early experiences as “sketch artists” with that incredible red toy that
has become almost standard issue for so many children still to this day.

First imagined as a bedtime tale for his son by Kenneth Grahame in 1908, The Wind in the Willows has remained in the top twenty children’s stories ever since. But things have been getting weird out in the Willows, as the new comic on deviantART, Weirding Willows, will attest to.

It seems there is a most frightening psychological conundrum when considering the concept of demonic possession even the most remote possibility of reality upon our earthly plane is the notion that just believing it may be true could very likely be the spark needed for the Demon to discover, seek out, and ultimately inhabit its next vessel of evil: You.

What is it about a fictional character first introduced to the public in Great Britain in 1887 that has kept him being reincarnated, with generationally-correct upgrades, over and over again in film and on television? Who is this literary hero whose portrayal over the past century by such past masters as Basil Rathbone and Jeremy Brett to today’s vanguard talents Robert Downey, Jr. and Benedict Cumberbatch has inspired such a continuing outpouring of fan appreciation?

RapeI would like to address a disturbing trend Ive seen in stories posted online.Rape5 years ago in Art Features More Like This
That is, the proclivity of rape (or sexual molestation) in stories.
Rape is not edgy. Rape is not dark or cool. Rape is not a clever way to allow your character to have sex without making them seem slutty. Rape does not make your character more interesting, or stronger, or weaker, or whatever the disturbing line of reasoning behind a poor concept for a story.
It is a horrible, heinous violation of both the mind and body. People do not suffer through it and then go on to live out the rest of their lives happily ever after. It can take months, if not years, for a person to recover from such a trauma if they ever do at all.
To portray rape in such a cavalier way is not only dangerous, but offensive to real victims. To even try is playing with fire. Victims dont want to read about it, they dont want to see characters

Supernatural beings come to serve several purposes:
They kept people on the lighted path of truth and goodness, fearful of exploring beyond;

So, you've created your first chatroom and you're a bit confused on how it all works? These two lessons will attempt to take some of the mystery out of using and managing your chatroom.
Note that most of the commands mentioned in this article can be done by accessing your Chatroom Settings (a link to this is located in the bottom right of your chat screen). Most people prefer to use the commands though since not everything can be done by using the Chatroom Settings, and for the most part you can do things faster and easier by using the command.
When you first create your chatroom you'll notice that you are put into the "Guests" privclass. The first thing you should do is to type this command in the text box where you normally type:
