Project: Improvement for the Better (UPDATE)September is Self-Improvement month. I thought this would be a great time to launch my project that I am calling "Improvement for the Better."Project: Improvement for the Better (UPDATE)1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
As artists, we are really self critical of our work.
I thought it would be interesting to see how much you have improved.
So, to participate in this project, you will take an old work of yours, be it on the site or not, and redo it. To submit it, you will place the two side by side, and label them Before and After. You may also say in your artist's description something like "the one on the right is before, and the one on the left is after" or something like that. Your title will be "Improvement for the Better: (how much time between the two) You will submit to a folder named Improvement for the Better in my group #Proud-ToBe-Divergent You don't have to be a member there to submit. (Thank you to *Apacofishie for beta-ing that). Everyone gets one entry per person. This project will end at the end of September.
There will be prizes, which

The Basement MassacreThere is a knock on my door. The Basement Massacre1 year ago in Free Verse More Like This
I walk to it, and open it.
It is one of the guards.
"Miss, I am to take you to the basement.
There are riots.
Please Miss, for your safety." he says.
Why would the guards suddenly care for my family's safety?
We are prisoners of the rebellion.
But, I get up, and follow him
to the cellar.
I see my family there.
My sisters, my father and mother.
The guards gather us together.
Their leader pulls out a slip of paper.
He starts reading the orders that we are to be executed,
Before any of us can do anything,
he takes a pisol, and fires at my father's head.
He collapses in a growing stream of blood.
My mother is praying.
She gets shot too,
before she can finish her prayer.
Then they turn to us.
Now I have completely registered in my mind that I,
Daughter of the Russian Tsar,
will die tonight,
in this basement.
The guard that led me here
fires at my chest.
The bullet somehow bounces off my corset.
The other guards shoot at my siste
Witness: Fire From the AschPOV of a 14 year old mill girl who works at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory where she spends more than 12 hours at a time sewing shirtwaists for a low wage.Witness: Fire From the Asch1 year ago in Free Verse More Like This
It's late afternoon.
Work's almost done.
I am shutting off my sewing machine,
when I hear the cry.
It's repeated several times.
I see the blaze,
it's on the other end of the floor.
We all rush for the doors.
I reach them first.
They are locked.
I can feel the heat
from the flames.
I start sweating.
My hair sticks to the back of my neck.
I can't breathe.
Coughing, I fall to my knees.
I feel a draft of cold, clean air.
I crawl towards it.
That air is my beacon of hope.
My skin is getting burned.
I can feel the pain as the flames lick at it,
turning it black.
I'm only 14.
It's too early for me to die.
But, I know deep in my heart
I won't survive to see tomorrow.
I find the source of the draft.
It's an open window.
I see other girls jump to their death,
