CA.Org/TAD Are Stealing Artist RoyaltiesMy name is Brad Rigney, I am an illustrator, some of you may be familiar with my art and also with my tutorial entitled "A Hostile Takeover" that Conceptart.org produced, distributed and later sold through Conceptart.org and The Art Department (TAD).CA.Org/TAD Are Stealing Artist Royalties3 months ago in Personal More Like This
First of all I want to thank those of you who have purchased my tutorial through legitimate means. Your support has been incredible, myself and my family can't thank you enough, the notes and letters I have received from many of you in regards to the tutorial have honestly been touching and inspirational - it's been an experience unlike anything I expected to find in this business.
It is that very experience which has prompted me to come forward and lay my cards on the table and finally expose what has been transpiring behind the facade that is being presented to you by these institutions, because you deserve to know the truth for your own financial and intellectual protection.
I've waited to come forward about it because I've wanted my mo

Lore?Alright. So, most people agreed on option 1 for the roleplay group. Therefore, it's time to put some heads together and not only create the group, but create the lore behind the current situation in the currently unnamed world.Lore?9 months ago in Personal More Like This
For those of you who are not aware, option 1 was:
"The universe, or world, is watched over by two 'gods / goddesses' (I am aware that this is a common concept to follow). One of them, wishes to have a 'perfect' world, meaning that everyone in it is kind, loving. The other one wants to run the world into chaos, and his/her followers do his/her dirty work.
Beneath this pair, there are four clans of people. The clans are very distrusting of one-another, therefore, there COULD be occasional war. Each of the clans will specialize in different areas of magic, or ability. Which goddess you choose to follow, does not affect the clan you can belong in."
Those of you who are interested, note me and I will gladly hand over skype details and a link to the interactive notepa

It's been proven over and over that there is no evidence on the vile rumors that fly around about Bane. All people claiming to have evidence have been shot down with laughter as they failed to produce the evidence, as they had none.
The only 'evidence' is the art people commissioned from the old subleader depicting their character how the commissioner wanted, which isn't about the guild at all, but the commissioner's ideas for artwork.
Why I bring this up? Because somebody I know, who seemed nice, apparently believes the rumors (still lol) and thinks even I got involved with it all.
Gulliable isn't in the dictionary.
Bane had no futa rape and all that shit.
No. I don't deserve it. I am not guilty. Don't play innocent. I kept Bane as clean as possible. Whatever members did -outside of the guild

The thing about seeking critiqueA cross post from my Tumblr:The thing about seeking critique2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I always get super nervous when people present artwork to me, requesting critique. I tend to shy away from nitpicking aspects of a specific image in favor for offering broad stroke suggestions that could apply the artists' entire body of work as a whole. There are plenty of people who are much more qualified for nitpicking, and are more happy and comfortable to do so. I am not one of those people.
But there is a reason for this.
I come from the school of thought that believes the more work you produce, the better you'll get, faster. You can spend a month painting one image, trying to get it as close to perfect as you canor you can spend that month painting several images, applying what you learned from the last image to the next. By the end of that month, it doesn't matter which route you take, you'll never end up with a perfect image. However, should you take the second approach, you will find yourself with a larger body of work to show f
TAD: Making It RightHere's an update about the royalties situation:TAD: Making It Right3 months ago in Personal More Like This
John English over at TAD stepped up and did the right thing by sending me a check for my royalties, which I have already received and banked.
He also gave me his word that he would be taking care of the other artists royalties who were wronged as well.
Whether that happens or not remains to be seen, but he called me not long after I made my post wanting to know what he could do.
John said he didn't think people should get credit for doing the right thing and I agreed. But I still want to take the time to flesh this out a little because I want to keep my side of the street clean and because there's a lot of confused, angry, hurt, people.
Justified or not; dropping this nuke hurt TAD and TAD isn't only populated by the people who wronged me; it's comprised of people *just like me* trying to make a living in art.
I was wronged, but TAD isn't some cartoon villain plotting to suck the life-force from hapless artists; no one goes into business
5 Reasons to WriteI wrote a blog once that urged comic artists to try writing their own books. I held back a bit on what I said--Punk Rock Jesus hadn't come out yet, so I didn't feel like I had the proper authority to really speak up.5 Reasons to Write8 months ago in Personal More Like This
Since then, there's been a lot more discussion about the etiquette of publishers toward their freelancers, the recent rise of creator owned books, and the effects of Hollywood moving into comics (or vice versa). And as friend of mine at Newsarama pointed out recently, I'm one of a few guys who's found a middle ground--not only because I'm writing and drawing my own book, but because my OGN is partially owned by DC Comics.
Certain events of the last year have created new concerns within our industry. Do you still need to work for big publishers if you want to "make it"? Do they deliver a better product than creator owned books? Are the Big Two treating creators as fairly as they've always been? Between the rise of digital comics and comic-based movies, are creators getting

When I first sold LMS to Paramount, a lot of people asked me: "How much money did you get?" "You're probably rich now, right?"
I mean, the solid gold mansion I bought was just a little gift to myself...but...
Ever since I was little, I've known I wanted to draw. From the day my parents put a pencil in my hand, this was my future. I just knew it, I had that gut feeling. So I stuck to it, and thankfully it took me to heights I'd have never imagined possible. Now with my new book Redemption heading off to studios soon for a hopeful movie package, I can't wait to see where this new road takes me.
That said, there's something else that tops all of this.
The other night I went out to visit my girlfriend's cousin and her family. Incredibly kind people with very sweet kids. Other than the two parents, there were 3 kids, but the one who caught my interest was the eight-year old boy, Diego.
Diego, shy, tiny, slender, reminded me of myself when I was his a

Below you'll find a list of tutorials I personally think of as the best on dA. If I have any problems with painting something I usually take a look at one of those.
Is there anything you're having troubles with? Need help looking for a good tutorial? Or maybe you'd like to see a video walk-through of me painting something?
I'm open for suggestions for what kind of tutorial/walk-through you'd like to see from me. If you're interested in anything, post your suggestions in the comments!

Character Design: An introductionCharacter Design: An introduction4 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Arvalis-2012 by `arvalis
What does 'Character Design' mean?
The character design is the process which comes after the characterisation and consists in defining the character through his/her physical appearance.
We need to consider a character as a little fictional creature, human or not, that aims to please its creator and the public as well.
While the basic characterization of this fictional creature (his tastes, his fears, his behaviors) may take a little mental effort, as it is a sort of list of emotions, facts and feelings that come and go in the life of a character, the process of visual realization of this creature may not be as simple. That's why many writers and characters creators prefer to rely on experienced hands.
Also many of the mental aspects of the character are not possible to gain by using 'static' visual medium. For 'static' I mean all the illustrations and drawings unable to tell a

It's not that i don't like the deviant art logo... it's a 'nice shape'
But when it is used as a watermark placed right in the middle of an image it is nothing but an annoying distraction.
Watermarks can, and should be subtle and can even add to the effect of an image.
If used, a watermark should be part of the creative choce of the artist and not some random event.
