The weather echoed the overall mood of those gathered dark, ominous, threatening. The leaders and the nations gathered Italy, Russia, France, England, Germany, Austria, Prussia, China, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Belgium, Hungary, Poland, Denmark, Spain, Finland, Sealand, Turkey, Greece, Romania, Belarus, Ukraine, Latvia, Sweden, Switzerland, Lithuania, and Estonia, as well as many others wore pensive, worried, and angry expressions. The tension in the air had become palpable as those gathered sat in silence. What needed to be said had already been said, and no one was in agreement on what needed to be done.
Their subject of concern was the one nation not in attendance. Indeed, he and his leaders didn't even know they were in one place, holding this meeting. America, a

My name is Emily Felicity Kirkland. I am a proper young lady; I go to church every day, I work extremely hard to make life bearable out here in the unforgiving country-side, and I always speak when spoken to.
However, I'm not like other girls. Other girls stay home and obey their husbands. Other girls are meek and humble; they don't work outside in the filth and the harsh, torrential heat like I do. No, their duty is to go to church, thank the Almighty Father for all that they have, and take care of the little ones.
I am different. I have specific duties to fulfill. You see, I am a British colony. I am the South. I am the North. I am the middle. I'm not just some me

No one knew or understood how he could stand with his back straight, his face expressionless, emotionless. He'd just suffered an attack to his lands and his people, the first one to hit since the bombing of Pearl Harbor in December of 1945. They'd expected him to be hunched over, still reeling from the pain, yet he stood straight, he stood tall, and he stood proud.
Perhaps it was because of his stubborn nature America had never been one to let anything get him down for long that he refused to show weakness in front of them, that he even showed up for the meeting in the first place. No one failed to notice the blackened skin circling his right eye or the gash above his right temple. There were probably some more bruises and cuts where no one could see, all equally painful.
They wouldn't have blamed him, if he'd decided to not show up for the meeting. The loss of life in such a short amount of time had to be breathtakingly staggering and painful

Rumor has it that all of the U.S. embassies in China were shut down several weeks prior, but Chinese officials have refused to say. Trade between the two nations has come to a standstill, but there still is no official word as to why this is taking place . . ."
Japan listened as the reporter spoke about the relations between China and America or the lack thereof. No one from either government had commented as to why the two were no longer in communications and trading with each other or why it had ceased in the first place. Neither had asked other nations to intercede, either, and it had the rest of the world watching with baite

Spring, it's coming again. Finally. I was almost afraid it would stay away this year... But it won't. It's coming back. Hooray! Because not only spring is coming, but also little animals such as ducks, sheep, cows, etc. And of course, flowers.
So beautiful, flowers. It's kind of a habit of my aunt to give me (and my sister) a little plant for Easter. The only problem is that I truly can't keep a plant alive. It's not an exaggeration this time. I just keep killing plants! Not on purpose, of course, but they keep dying. Once I got a little plant (which was supposed to produce some kind of weird strawberries, but honestly, I've never seen anything like that...)
I kind of forgot about that plant... So it slowly died of thirst and lack of attention.
The second plant I got was truly beautiful. The flowers were all kinds of yellow and it was growing really well. Because I remembered what I had done to my previous plant, I decided this one was definitely N

The next morning found Katirina sitting confused at the kitchen table, looking down at a plate with a large slice of tiramisu cake and two strawberry crepes, sitting beside it was a steaming cup of french vanilla cappuccino.
"Fel...what is all of this?" She asked, staring at the food with wide eyes, looking in between the two.
"We figured you would need breakfast for your first day back." Monika explained, smiling softly.
"I made the tiramisu, and Monika made the crepes and your cappuccino. They're amazing, trust me." Feliciano explained, bouncing on the balls of his feet in excitement. Katirina gave a faint smile before cutting into the thin pastry and eating before preparing to leave.
"I'll be home a bit late tonight. I've got some stuff to do."
"Alright...be careful." Feliciano called, anticipation lacing his voice.
Pulling up at the school she smiled, pulling her bags out of the car and heading inside with a grin.

Greece tried to not be bothered too much by the goings on in the world. Life would flow the way it was meant to, and, to an extent, there was no sense in worrying about the final outcome. He figured there was no sense in trying to manipulate the things that were beyond the realm of control. To try and do so was foolish, and there were more important things (and people) who deserved the concern. There was little sense in worrying over the economic cycles. Recessions, depressions, and prosperity were all part of the game. There were no easy fixes, despite the demands for such.
For some, his laid-back attitude caused a great deal of concern. His country struggled for years with economic and political troubles, and he took it all in stride. Many of his fellow nations thought he didn't care about his people for how laid back Greece approached his economic crisis. They even criticized him for his apparent lack of concern, but he'd learned a long

The sun was slowly lowering in the sky of the Sword Coast. Within a few hours, it would be twilight. The air was thick and humid, alive with the sounds of insects.
Dunstan slowed his chestnut mare from a trot to a walk as he approached the village of West Harbor. It was a tiny settlement, barely more than a spot in the road. With no inn, he would have to trust in the hospitality of the townsfolk - it was far too close to evening to brave the rest of the way to Waterdeep, and only a fool would traverse near the Mere of Dead Men at night.
A few of the villagers glanced up from their activities as his horse ambled by. On every face was a look of concern or dread. He met their eyes with a small, but warm smile. Yet, it obviously did nothing to ease their minds.

Rhaine looked in the mirror.
Six years had passed since Dunstan had taken her from West Harbor.
She was no longer the cherub-faced little girl, but a striking young woman. Her face had become angular as it matured, though with softer bone structure than most elves. Her emerald eyes had brightened in color and taken on a slight slant. Her lips had darkened and become fuller, as had her auburn hair the tips of her elven ears scarcely surfaced above the red waves. What's more, her robes actually fit her now, hugging her curves rather than hanging like a sack, as they did during her awkward teenage years.
Her slender hand went to the sacred medallion at her neck, as it often did when she was lost in thought. It was the mark of her full sisterhood, which had been granted shortly after she turned fifteen. The High Father continued to push her, however. He seemed almost desperate to teach her the greatest secrets of the Kelemvorite Church. And

The moment time stood still, was the moment she could hear the birds sing their beautiful songs. Each had a different melody; a different composition of sounds which seemed to fit perfectly. And, in harmony with the songs and the whispers of the grass, she could hear him breathing softly next to her.
The moment time stood still, was the moment she felt the soft grass beneath her. The sunlight touching her skin; treasuring it, touching it lightly. She could feel his arms around her. Keeping her safe. Making her feel loved. And love was what she felt that moment.
The moment time stood still, was the moment she still tasted the taste of his kiss. His loving kiss. The kiss she never wanted to end. She could taste the fresh taste of the air around

She wishes he will come soon, the prince who always saves the princess. At least, that's how it works in fairy tales.
But those fairy tales are dead to her now, along with the mother who used to read them to her, softly and gently.
There is no time to be gentle now, not with the scaly winged creatures lurking outside her door.
The girl rises from the chair, snaps off a chair leg, and prays they haven't heard her. She is careful to be silent while making her way across the room. If she makes a sound, they could hear her.
She slowly opens the door and quickly, swiftly, silently; slices her makeshift weapon through the air. One of the creatures' slimy heads is now impaled on the piece of wood. The rest of its body slowly falls to the ground.
She inwardly shudders at what she has done, but there is no time for weakness.
The child runs out of the tower, away from the dragons guarding it, her long golden hair flowing in the wind behind her.

So here's the story. A long time ago, when I was about six or something, my family and I went to visit some relatives on the other side of the country. It was a pleasant enough visit but when we first got there our parents decided they wanted some peace and quiet so me and my brother got sat down in front of the telly with the other kids and made to watch this film from 1982 they had on an old VHS tape. And let me tell you right now, I remember being completely engaged from start to finish with this movie.
But the funny thing about this is, I never actually watched the movie again for a good number of years. In fact, so long ago was my last viewing that I even forgot it's name. It was only a few months ago when I was

Taste in stories is subjective, but overall, a common flaw tended to appear : lack of focus and the presence of elements that weren't necessary to achieve the « goal ».
By « goal », I mean the feeling or ideology that the story is supposed to defend.
I think a more detailed example would be more explicit. And since I have one of those discussions as digital text available, I can copy it as an example and a way to illustrate how writing can be done with efficiency in mind.
Of course I edited this text so my « victim » can't be identified with certainty (thank you, laptop and train travels!). I don't want to sound like I am specifically attacking someone, when really this is all about this idea of efficient

"Welcome to my home!" Zerobi said triumphantly as she and Lucario entered a fairly small room. She had carried him all the way to the mountains he had seen in the distance earlier, where he dismounted her and promptly gave up on any plans to act macho. She had then led him into a cave and where they went through a very long and complex system of paths within, making the room they had just come across almost impossibly difficult to find. Looking over the room, Lucario could hardly see anything because there was only a very small source of light. With what little he could see, he was able to make out a bed in the corner and what appeared to be magazines thrown all over the place.
"Hehe " Lucario snickered sarcastically, "Must be hard keeping the place clean with the constant stream of visitors you're getting."
"It's a cave, there's really not much you can do about it " Zerobi sighed as she at long last shed the cloak she was wearing. Lucario stared eagerly, having been curious
