Created for `thorns' Complaint Challenge.
Feedback Generated As Of February 1st: 4,085
The Inspiration:
The +Fav and Run Phenomenon.
Have you ever received Favorites on your deviations, but did not receive any comments or critiques? Have you added a user's work to your Favorites, but never left them any comments or feedback on those pieces? Many would agree that while views and favorites are great, that comments and critiques are the most valuable. This contest aims to fill that void, by giving deviants a chance to return to the artwork they collected and provide feedback for it.
The Mission:
To leave Comments, Feedback, and Critiques on Deviations in your Favorites Collection.
Go through your Favorites Gallery, and comment on the deviations you find there that you did not leave a comment on. You may also
Photography Troubleshooting: Understanding ISOHeader created by ~TouchedDPhotography Troubleshooting: Understanding ISO3 months ago in Community Relations More Like This
=TheGalleryOfEve asked recently about SLR settings and in particular, a troubleshooting article focusing on ISO. So here it is! Hopefully this article will help you to understand ISO better, whether a beginner or not.
What Is ISO?
ISO within traditional photography, was an indication of how sensitive a film was to light. Within digital photography it measures the sensitivity of the image sensor. Basically, the lower the number then the less your camera is sensitive to light. Higher ISO numbers are generally used in dark situations to get faster shutter speeds but this can often mean that your shots are noisier. ISO 100 is the most widely used and gives crisp shots with little to no grain. Shooting in automatic means that the camera will select the appropriate ISO for the situations that you are facing, and work out the rest for you to reduce noise as much possible. But it's when you start getting more technical and

This is a series of articles where we interview a deviant who is both a
stock provider and a stock user.
Our second interview is with *Kuoma-stock/~Kuoma!
Hello! Firstly, how is the weather in Austria this time of year?
Hi! We had first snow yesterday, no one has expected it because usually snowfalls begin in December
I see you have been on your art account, ~Kuoma, for 5 years. Did you have any accounts before that one?
No, this is my first and only art account on DA.
You have some gorgeous fairy art. How did you get into fairies? Would you say they are your favorite mythical creature?
Thank you, happy you like them. In past I used to draw a lot of mermaids, they are actually my favourite creatures but at some point I got a book of Brian Froud presented to my birthday and I have fallen in
Self-Injury Awareness 2013 Fears vs DreamsThe FactsSelf-Injury Awareness 2013 Fears vs Dreams3 months ago in Happenings More Like This
March 1st is a day that calls attention to a sensitive subject that takes on many meanings and forms for people. Self-injury, or self-harm, is the act of deliberately harming oneself physically, usually as a mechanism for expressing distress or coping in difficult situations. Self-injury is commonly associated with cutting, but can also refer to burning, scratching, bruising, bleaching, overdosing, some forms of hair pulling and picking, and breaking bones. Binging and purging may also be considered self-injuring behavior.
The reasons behind self-injury and the people who self-injure vary greatly, but one thing to keep in mind is that it does not matter what culture, ethnicity, gender, or age you are: there are people who have injured themselves from all walks of life. Triggering events like bullying, trauma, abuse, school, work pressures, bereavement and difficult relationships can all contribute to the distress one feels that leads them to self-injure, but
PE: The power of contextA picture is indeed "worth a thousand words", a complex idea can be conveyed with a single still image. This quote also characterizes one of the main goals of visualizations, namely making it possible to absorb large amounts of data quickly. In our perception of artworks we see every day, some get closer to our hearts than others. Imagine a painting, strong and powerful, technique showing an experienced, steady hand, needing nothing but a pair of eyes to enter one's sensitive soul. Are you satisfied with what you see? I wouldn't count on that, but I would be quite sure that after a while your head fills with numerous questions.PE: The power of context4 months ago in Art Blogs & Mags More Like This
On the contrary, your favorite artist publishes their recent work and you, as always, immediately love it. If, however, you would allow your mind a little exercise, you could clearly see that if this work was shown to you at random, under different circumstances and you would not know the author, hardly would it catch your interest for a second.

Everyday, millions of users from all over the world use deviantART, and it is really hard for new users to get themselves noticed. Oh yes, it is HARD. It can actually be a really disappointing experience for some of us. But, if you show some patience and work for it, you may just be able to crack through that wall standing between you and exposure to the community. Remember, all it take is patience. Lots and lots of patience. Oh, and you also need to trust yourself. Just because you couldn't get a huge fan base in several weeks or months doesn't mean that you will never get them. But, there are some really important stuff you need to follow first before getting there.
dA is also a community, just like any other community in the world. The only difference is dA is and online community and the others, well they are totally offline. So, this means there will be some standards to be held in there, or else it

This article marks the latest additions to the dizzy height of Senior members in our community. With just over 1000 deviants holding the highly saught after ` -- it's clearly a moment that deserves recognition.
:faq29:
So what does it take to become a Senior? That's a question many have asked and have never really been able to get a straight answer on. Some have gained Seniority as a thank you for their time spent as a Volunteer, or to recognise their contribution to a particular project or collaborative action. Some have gained Seniority because of their community spirit, providing help and assistance to many other deviants and taking time out to promote the work of others in the community.
Some people have received Seniority because of their artistic endevours, having a positive influence on their peers by sharing resources, providing constructive criticism and by being a voice that stands out above the many other

I made a screenshot of my chatroom, cropped out certain areas and marked them with words
I'll write down some things about those areas and I'll try to include some tips as well.
So here we go.

This is a very useful thing. Why? Because instead of one million browser windows, you can have one window open and have as many connections to dAmn chatroom as you want. You can close one as well but without leaving the other rooms as well.

Photography Troubleshooting: Winter WildlifeFor many parts of the world, Winter provides a beautiful backdrop for some of the best landscape and water scape Photography out there. Snowy hills, Frosty trees and more help to convert a world of vibrant Summer or Autumn into subdued yet awe-inspiring Winter. But what about the wildlife? Extreme weather conditions can make it more challenging to get out and about with the camera, but can also give you more opportunity to capture those elusive animals.Photography Troubleshooting: Winter Wildlife5 months ago in Community Relations More Like This
When I first started investigating Winter Wildlife Photography I thought that I would have to aim for things like Foxes, Deer and other wild and sometimes elusive animals. But actually, wildlife Photography and in particular in the Winter - can start right in the back garden.
Birds in particular get hungrier and needier during Winter months in England. I'm sure this is true for many parts of the world too. Depending on the kinds that frequent your garden, you could encourage them to linger pretty quickly or it might
Food Photography - back to basicsFood is a necessity for daily life and good health (the right kinds anyway), but food is also fast becoming something of an Art as well as many turn to their cameras once a mammoth baking session is over and capture the delightful dishes in attractive and alluring ways. Since the beginnings of Still Life Photography, food has been a subject and whilst the topic has remained the same - methods, equipment and ease have changed in varying degrees across the years. Food Photography is still a genre that is vastly overlooked and majorly underrated in the art world.Food Photography - back to basics4 months ago in Photography More Like This
It all began with Still Life Paintings back in the 17th Century. They were as far from commercial as a style could get and certainly weren't created with selling in mind. However the skill and main aspects that realism painters took back in the 17th Century are kept close to the hearts of Food Photographers today as they grip onto Realism, effects of light, composition and arrangement. Props have always been an important part of

Here are a few techniques + approaches to improve
the quality and helpfulness of your critiques!
Critiquing could almost be an art form in and of itself! It's complex, but needs to be accessible. It can be approached from many different perspectives; there are no right answers. In essence, critique is like collaborative problem solving!
You as critic work with an artist to identify a problem (maybe one that they themselves are unaware of), then you work together to find a solution to it. They communicate through their existing body of work, and the technique they've developed or concept they've expressed. You communicate through your observations, impressions, and suggestions! This guide is designed to give you some new ideas about how you might approach your critiques from a different angle! It contains questions for you to ask, as well as tec

History of Roman typefacesHistory of Roman typefacesHistory of Roman typefaces5 months ago in Art Blogs & Mags More Like This
Typefaces are our instruments to construct words and sentences. Of course this very article couldn’t be written without type other than writing by hand and scanning it in, but I wouldn’t know how to save the file or how to access the website to upload it to if I had no access to typefaces. Of course I don’t have to say where type can be found; it’s absolutely everywhere. However, most people don’t consider where typefaces come from. Most of my life and even the first 5 years or so of my design career I was absolutely ignorant of where typefaces came from. I mean, they were just "there" on the computer and I never considered someone actually had to make typefaces for us to use—letter by letter. In this article I will discuss the history of Roman typefaces; how it progressed during the ages, how each style can be recognized and how to select typefaces consciously and logically r

A deviantART +forum is dA's own coded forum. Yep, a forum/community board that you can find elsewhere on the internet but functions a bit differently from the other forums out there, like the phpbb3 forums for example. Whether you are a new deviant or someone who has been on this site from months to years, the +forum might be new and a daunting place for you. You might have heard rumors of users being torn alive!Or of some enchanted praise of it
.
This guide will hopefully help you providing some core ideas and rules and notes on how to go around using deviantART +forums. This will link to various FAQs on the site, links and articles by other deviants out there and give some tips to get you started on being active on this aspect of the site. It might be too much reading for one sitting, so bookmark/fave it for future references if you wish. While it might look hard to navigate or interact, using forums take some b
Photography Troubleshooting: Capturing BabiesOkay so one of the biggest subjects within portraiture photography are infants and children! Children and in particular newborn babies bring out the photographer in all of us. So whether or not you're looking to go pro and snap babies professionally or whether you just want to brush up on some tips for your own family or friends, this could be the article for you! I always thought that when I got my first baby shoot booked, it would just be a case of snapping them on the carpet or wrapped up in a blanket. I had no idea how creative I could really get - and how simply it would be to do that.Photography Troubleshooting: Capturing Babies7 months ago in Photography More Like ThisUntil a few weeks ago, I had never photographed a baby in my life, let alone had to pose and arrange one in cute positions with lots of fluffy toys surrounding it. I had also never used a lighting kit before, but that's another story. Anyway, I found it incredibly easy once I knew what i needed, to set up for the shoot and since then I haven't looked back. Have you studied Photography? I'm intrigued to know whether or not a qualification in Photography has made you a better, or indeed a worse photographer. Or has there been no change? This week, The Photography Blog asks whether or not a Photography Degree is worth the paper it's written on. Graduation in any field these days doesn't mean that you'll immediately get a job in your desired area. Not these days. So is it worth embarking on study related to photography when in the end, you could get to the same place without the paper stating what you are capable of? Photography is one of a small number of job areas where what you've done speaks higher volumes than whether or not you're
PE Art Features and Daily DeviationsDaily Deviations:PE Art Features and Daily Deviations3 months ago in Editorials More Like This
As per :faq61:, The Daily Deviation is a daily feature chosen from galleries here on deviantART.
A small assortment of submissions are chosen each day by a select group of staff/volunteer members who wish to showcase an image which they found impressive or otherwise interesting enough to deserve being brought to the attention of the community-at-large.
Benefits of suggesting Daily Deviations:
helping artists gain more exposure
deviantART is such a large website with many members, often great art can fall through the cracks and go unnoticed as a result. Daily Deviations are usually a wonderful way to put a bit of a spotlight on a particular piece or artist. Often people like to focus on the lesser known artists, though it may be worth noting that even deviations uploaded by popular artists can at times use more exposure as well

The 365 Photography Challenge - How to Stick at itBefore I start with this article, a little disclaimer. I just finished the 365 photography challenge - known as a 'photo a day' but I blogged and took more than one photo on most days, so it was that little bit more challenging. So I'm feeling pretty smug right now, that I achieved it. But I am by no means toting myself as an expert. This is just my humble advice on how to keep going when it does nothing but rain, or when you feel like giving up.The 365 Photography Challenge - How to Stick at it4 months ago in Photography More Like This
Before 2012, some weeks would pass when I wouldn't even pick up the camera, let alone think about shots, or how to compose one. Photography still excited me, but I was lacking inspiration. So on the 2nd of January last year I decided to throw everything up in the air, and let go. That is to say, I stopped being precious about the camera (because you can't when you have to take a photo a day) and I forced myself to take rubbish shots, as well as half decent ones.Start as you mean to go. Don't over-set yoursel

~canismaioris says: "The most important in Architectural Photography for me is:1. Finding the right perspective. You should always look for an interesting foreground, first plan can totally change perception.
2. It's good to use wide angle, show as much as you can, use a wide angle lens or make panorama, but this trick doesn't work in every case and situation.
