Devious Journal EntryJust a little note...Devious Journal Entry7 months ago in Personal More Like This
When you see an artist you like and you are trying to figure his work out... the question that gets asked a lot is" How did you do it?"
What software did you use to make this effect?
What is your technique?
These are questions that won't get you anywhere. It's like asking for the fish.
A question you should probably ask is WHY did you do this?.. WHAT were you thinking?
When you ask this question, you are thinking about the principles of fishing, and not just about catching A fish.
If you wonder why, then you won't be stuck with the HOW.. you will most probably create your own "HOW", your own method of putting your WHY into existence..and this is what will really make you unique.
Once again.. this is just my take on things.
A Fat Female Superhero - Half WayWe've reached the halfway point for entries in the Fat Female Superhero contest. I must say, I am amazed at the support and commentary for such an event. I think that most people have realised that it's not about winning a prize, but about challenging the accepted norms of the industry and creating characters that we want to see represent us.A Fat Female Superhero - Half Way2 years ago in Personal More Like This
With such a loose contest structure, accepting any strong female protagonist who defies body conventions, I'm amazed at the diversity that has sprung up in the entries. I didn't want to constrain artists and have them create something that only I define as "fat". It was up to YOU to decide what the word "fat" and "fit" mean.
And really, "fat" is such a curious, loaded word. To many, it is an insult. "You're too fat." But everyone has fat. Some have a little, some have a lot. Some peopel interpreted the "fat female superhero" as someone who is overweight or obese. Some saw her as simply someone who has fat deposits on her body that exist outside he
Inspiration: What Did Princess Ukok Look Like?Found here at the Mary SueInspiration: What Did Princess Ukok Look Like?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The mummified remains of "Princess" Ukok, as the scientists named her, was discovered nearly twenty years ago in the Altai mountain range in East-Central Asia. Kept for all that time in Novosibirsk, Russia, it was not until very recently that she's been revealed to the rest of us. But among the general wonder and fascination that always comes with finding mummified and ancient bodies, Princess Ukok has another: She's covered in remarkably preserved, completely badass tattoos.
People have been tattooing themselves and each other for almost as long as humanity has existed; it just seems embedded in human nature to adorn our bodies in one way or another, whether through cheap drugstore eyeshadow or ancient ritual inking.
Princess Ukok and her warriors are believed to be members of the Pazyryk nomads who existed as early as the 5th century BC when they were

The guy behind Novus Karma manages to make my own characters look better than the way I draw them! Haha. Seriously though the color, composition, character (Enyo's face! <3) and just overall finesse of the thing is really impressive and a testament to his skills.

How to improve your skills in close-up-photographySince many people asked me how I take my pictures and why they are so "special", I would like to tell you how I manage things when I take pictures. How to improve your skills in close-up-photography2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
I. Finding the location
When I go outside to take pictures of nature, I do barely have any concepts in my mind. I just go and let nature inspire me. The first important step is finding a location. It is not that difficult to find an interesting background. I personally do prefer backgrounds which are not monochrome. Many shades of light (light and dark contrasts or different colors) make your picture interesting, no matter if the final result will be monochrome or colorful in the end.I look out for locations where not many people are. Like a big meadow in front of a house or a field or forests. (Forests do have the special plus that it does almost always have different light shadings I mentioned in 2).
II. Know your possibilities!
You have found your favourite location? Great! Many people do the mistake to

A Note on Daily Deviation FeaturesAt ten features into my tenure as Community Volunteer for Abstract & Surreal Photography I am noticing a certain trend in response to abstract and surreal Daily Deviations. I shall address some of the recurring themes here, and hopefully answer some questions along the way. At this point I would like to mention that I am talking about a small and vocal minority, and I sincerely thank the overwhelming majority for supporting the featured artists and their work. You're what makes this site such a great community.A Note on Daily Deviation Features2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
With that said, let's get to the troublesome themes I am coming across.
The "This is crap!" Argument
As an observer and a critic, you're entitled to think that something isn't very good. However, exclaiming as such on the comments of a piece of work that an artist has spent time and energy creating is not only counter-productive, but rude and insulting, especially if it's not followed up with some advice about how you think they could make their

9 reasons to appreciate ACRYLICS1. UNIVERSALITY - Acrylic are probably the most versatile of paints. You can thin them with water and use as watercolor (they will remain permanent upon drying, unlike watercolor), apply them in full strength, create textures.9 reasons to appreciate ACRYLICS2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
2. COMBINABLE - This medium is very suitable to be combined with anything you wish - watercolor, ink, pencils, oils... Free your imagination and experiment!
3. NUMEROUS SUITABLE SURFACES - Acrylics can be used on paper, canvas, wood, metal and many more surfaces (this is true, even though they don't adhere towards some surfaces as promptly as oils). This is a great advantage, when you get used to this medium, you can paint at whatever material you've got available.
4. DON'T STINK - That's right, all of you that have experienced headaches caused by oil paint might just appreciate an acrylic vacation!
5. FAST DRYING TIME - Composition doesn't seem right after you put down your first layer? This is not a problem, wait half an hour

Studio GhibliA Tokyo based animation studio that needs no introduction! Studio Ghibli is best known for their traditionally animated anime films. It was originally founded by the legendary pair, Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, back in 1985. Ghibli is named after an Italian war plane that was used for scouting, this reflected Miyazaki's love for not only airplanes but also Italy. The name itself means "hot wind blowing through the Sahara Desert".Studio Ghibli2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Takahata and Miyazaki
It was formed after the great success of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, which both Takahata and Miyazaki worked on. Their first feature film hit was Laputa, or some of you may know it as Castle in the Sky. Most of the films that Studio Ghibli produces is by Miyazaki, followed by Takahata, although they have worked with other film producers and directors as well.

Quick ReminderAlmost everyday I receive notes from people who inform me my work has been re posted as a render, wallpaper, stolen or even sold as prints. And I'm not the only one...Quick Reminder1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Most of them write "Permission given by the original artist" it's a NO NO! I never and will NEVER give any permission to re post my stuff on deviantart (nor pixiv).
I don't care if you "credited Zero chan" or "I found it on the web lolz" . It doesn't give you the right to post something you HAVEN'T DRAWN yourself.
it start to be really annoying and some people, like me, are really pissed enough to not post on DA anymore.
So please if you get a little consideration for people who spend time and effort on their passion (or work). respect that. thank you.

Although it's been over a year since we wrapped production on YJ, with the dust settling on the finale it seems like a fitting time to express my gratitude to all the people I worked with on the show and all the fans who helped make the whole experience special. I'm WAY too lazy to list ALL the amazing people here (that's what IMDB is for guys ) so I'll just keep it quick.
Deepest gratitude of course goes to Sam Register, Brandon Vietti and Greg Weisman who brought me onto the project when development began in Spring of 2009. At that point it was just the four of us meeting to discuss design and direction while Brandon and Greg began crafting the overall story and history of this version of the DCU. Without these guys there obviously would not have been a YJ cartoon at all, and although we didn't always agree on everything, I can't imagine having worked on it with anyone else really.
I also want to give major props to our awesom

Lineart, Light, and Planning AheadJust a quickie today because I saw something that made me smile!Lineart, Light, and Planning Ahead3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I love it when artists post the lineart and then the finished piece. In the case of this drawing, the lines are charming and well-executed, but don't particularly give the impression of a finished piece. They are clearly one part of a considered process.
A lot of the time, lines are used as a description of exclusively form and the things that can be conveyed that way, composition, expression, etc. Then, when we color, we begin to consider things like mood and lighting. I've been thinking a lot about how to describe light with line while working on the recent ink drawings, and so I had a particular "squee" moment when I noticed this lovely spot of consideration in Hughes' drawing-
Look at the color version at the shadow behind Selina- the shape of it, and compare it to the line version. Despite there being very little detai
