Fear of FallingIt wasn't that she didn't like flying. She just hated the idea of falling.Fear of Falling2 years ago in Flash Fiction & Vignettes More Like This
James offered to teach her how to fly, which was nice, but she knew how. So Lily suggested they ride double. He'd looked at her like she was crazy for even suggesting such a thing. She did know how riding double worked, didn't she? Lily just shrugged and said she knew he wouldn't let her fall, and that was the point.
He could remember the first time they went flying together. Even though he hadn't gone very high, James would always remember how she'd held on for dear life, and the feel of the warmth radiating from her body. That first time, Lily had tucked her face against his back, closing her eyes so she didn't look down, putting all of her trust in him.
When James had invited her to go flying today, he'd said it would be a 'bit breezy'. Well, a 'bit breezy' becomes 'horridly windy' when you're zooming around on a broomstick, doesn't it? Lily thought dryly to

“That all you got, you fucking piece of shit stain?” Mark Pearson demanded, spitting some hideous mixture of blood and tobacco onto the grimy, dirty floor. Pleasant, much? This being the lovely lad that baby-sat my kid-sister for three years. Living the dream.
“Come on, Mark, lay off. Poor kid’s had enough, now,” Patrick Slade, a long friend, reasoned as he pat Mark vigorously on the shoulder. Ugh. Men. Patrick was in no better state than the rest of us, but he was almost always in a better state of mine. He’s more the brain and I’m more the brawn, but minus the... um... muscles. Patrick wasn’t much taller than I, but some of that height was down to his afro. He was only wearing a tatty, once-white, vest and some cargo pants, his usual sandal-clad feet kicking Mark so slightly so he’d give up trying to kill me

“So he’d left me his coat and after work I came here,” Henri finished, smiling as usual.
“Sounds fun,” Penny laughed, “it’s all a bit tricky, though,” she mumbled.
“Yeah... I don’t know who to cheer for.”
“What d’you mean?”
“Well this Hash guy just wants to scare you but he’s adorable. He saved you from that shit-fuck Tom and he hasn’t hurt you. And Silrik seems too snooty but at least they guy’s direct. Monday morning, the sun high in the sky, she got up. She didn’t need to go to work for a while but she wanted to take advantage of the sun light. She got dressed and walked to the roof of the building.
Fold-out chair in hand, she decided today she would get a tan. She took off her shirt but left her shorts on. The British weather was on the fritz again and so the sun was baking in early February. She wasn’t complaining. In a bikini top and denim shorts, she lied down and lathered herself in sun block.
Company Kept Chapter 1 It was about ten o’clock at night... Saturday. The stars were out, though barely visible through the streetlights that made the pavement an odd yellow colour. A seventeen-year-old girl stepped out of a little corner shop. It was a beautician’s. She looked both ways before crossing the road, shaking her half-red and half-purple fringe. She slid down the sleeves of her white jumper because the cold was getting at her, but she didn’t put on the jacket that was tied around her hips. She dashed across the road, only a few strides with her long legs that were wrapped in skinny jeans. She brushed her long hair quickly with her fingers before continuing with a pocket comb.
When she stepped out to the alleyway that she always took home a man across the street stepped into the light. He had black hair that just brushed his shoulders. His eyes were a very pale green

I really didn’t want to say anything, but he seemed to be waiting for me. “Sorry for running,” I said quietly, putting my hands in the pockets of his hoodie I was wearing. Adrian was walking away now, back to his dark corner. I couldn’t find the will to look Nate in the eyes so I just focused on the floor.
“Sorry for stealing your first kiss,” he said, seeming just as uneasy as I did. I found the strength to smile.

"You're mean," I whined. Well I wasn't staying here forever, and I knew that for a fact, so I suppose this wasn't the worst thing that could happen. I mean, I wasn’t dead, was I?
We were at that bedroom I woke up in. Fun. He walked in with me and shut the door, then walked past me and through another door. He tossed something back in the room and said they were some spare clothes. Then I was alone in the room. Best be quick in changing.
I dropped my green-plaid button-shirt on the floor, not wanting to get blood on the crisp, white, bed. Then off with my comic-covered black t-shirt that was about two sizes too big for me. I looked down. "Damn," I whispered. I'd gotten blood on my jeans, too! Stupid Adrian... I took them

I found a staircase and trotted down, but realised it was a dead-end. The hell? Who has dead-ends in their house? I tapped the wall. There was a small scratch in the shape of a square. I pressed it and the square moved in. It was a button, like in spy movies. A secret door opened up and I smiled, walking through and hearing it shut behind me, feeling like I was oh-so cleaver.
My smile was short lived.
Apparently SOMEONE likes collecting objects of torture. That someone being Nathan. I saw him polishing a thumbscrew in the far corner, looking all shades of grumpy.

Oh, wait, I stand corrected. Not my bed. Not my room. Not my house. It wasn’t a dream I suppose. Oh sugar... so almost all of my friends are dead, I was bitten by a Vampire and now I’m in a strangers bed. Fun times. It was like the set-up of a bad horror movie.
Shaking ever so slightly with fear, I sat up. The room was empty, so I was safe... for now. And there was a light on in the room, so I could see okay.
First order of business, get out of this bed.
I was on my feet quickly and heard footsteps outside of the room. I dived under the bed and watched the door open as some male legs and feet came in. I cannot for the life of me see what possessed me to do this, but I reached out quickly and grabbed his ankle.
I heard something of a gasp, followed by a chuckle. A hand reached out and held my wrist, pulling me out from under the bed. It was that guy that

You see, I was supposed to be at home, in bed, asleep. But nevertheless, I wasn’t. I was with friends, messing about. Don’t lecture me now, I learnt my lesson, but I doubt I’ll put what I learnt to good use, seeing as that was my last chance.
If you were looking for a moral in my story, that’s it. Don’t sneak out at night.
“Crap...” I whispered to myself. “Guys, is this smart?” I asked my friends. They weren't the ‘best-bud’ sort of friends, more like my tag-on group. My normal friends, I would have trusted more.

Malfoy was really beginning to alarm Harry.
He was following Harry around the castle, just far enough back that whenever Harry tried to turn around to catch him, he'd slip away before Harry could get to him. Harry had no idea what had brought this on, only that it was rather worrying. Had Malfoy figured out what the Mood Mints did, or was he still trying to puzzle it out?
It's not as if he could just ask the prat.
Even Ron and Hermione had noticed.
"I'll go push his head in," Ron offered, scowling in the direction of blond hair.
"No, Ron, don't," Hermione scolded him. "We need to find out what he's up to, and the best way is to keep letting Malfoy follow Harry around."
"What?" Harry yelped. "Why would we do that? What if he's plotting my demise at this very moment? I'd like it if I could just relax for a moment without worrying that he was sneaking up behind me."
"Well, what we could do is wait until Malfoy is following Harry and then me and you c

To Harry's horror, Malfoy spent the rest of the day meticulously cataloguing who turned what colour on a piece of parchment. He managed to catch a glimpse of it over lunchtime, while Malfoy sat in the Great Hall with his friends, furiously scribbling, and glancing around once in a while to take another look. He caught Harry watching him, and smirked at him. Harry's cheeks flared with heat and he quickly ducked back out of the Hall before Malfoy could figure out what was going on.
As for himself, there was an alarming amount of purple directed his way, and it was no wonder it had taken so long to pick Malfoy out of the vast multitude. In fact, Malfoy wasn't even the only Slytherin to be purple, although all of Malfoy's yearmates were red.
Sometime in the afternoon, the mint glow faded, and he heaved a sigh of relief.
"Hey, did yours fade already?" Ron asked over dinner.
"Yeah, mate, it did. Do you think they really work?" Harry asked, still worri

Lily was sitting in the common room on a couch in front of the fireplace. She was reading Hogwarts, A History for her next History of Magic lesson. She tried to concentrate on the legend of the Chamber of Secrets, but it wasn't that easy, as a loud applause and screaming started in the common room. Lily turned her head.
James Potter came down the stairs. There was a white little lily between his teeth. Lily rolled her eyes and returned to her book. After a few minutes, James stopped next to the couch. He stared at the girl without saying a word. Lily sighed angrily and glanced at him impatiently.
Lily's look changed from upset to shocked while James unbuttoned his shirt. He unfolded it, sticking his chest out. There was a writing on his skin with red ink under his tie, which read: 'WANNA DATE?'
James smiled with the flower in his mouth and looked questioningly at Lily.
"No." she said concisely.

"What are you staring at, Potter?" Malfoy snarled, the corner of his mouth curling up in derision.
Harry could only stare in mute fascination at the light violet glow surrounding his arch nemesis, shocked into utter silence.
Malfoy sneered at him and tried again, "I see your brain's gone the way of Longbottom's. Just wait, next your bank account will go the way of Weasley's."
Harry knew that Malfoy was insulting him and that he should do something about it, such as hex Malfoy's mouth shut. But he was entirely beyond anything but confused horror. No matter what expression or gesture Malfoy made, the purple corona wouldn't budge.
"Did you hear me, Potter?" Malfoy waved a hand in front of his face. "Your face reminds me of the back end of a hippogriff."
Obviously it didn't, if the purple glow could be believed. Which Harry wasn't entirely sure it could be, and he was going to find out immediately. Without another word, he turned and walked awa

To themselves, to anyone
who cares to listen.
I here them when I toss and turn
they tell me I'm not good
But my heart says I'm free
I feel I am sane but I think insane
My mind is different from my heart
for my heart is that of the wolf
yet my mind is of the madman
To my heart I question
who am I
my mind thinks
what am I
who can I tell any more
I can't tell
if I am sane
or I'm tired
my heart howls
and my mind laughs
I run in circles
my mind runs in zigzags
my heart beats in freedom
What have I become?
Why am I still undead?
I just don't get
this any more
I have the heart
of a wolf
and the mind
of a madman

I walked back out into the large, swimming pool to see it was getting covered with a large blue mat. James walked over to me and smiled.
"Come on, I'm hungry. I want to find the dining room." He said, grabbing my hand and walking me down and out of the swimming room. We walked down the long corridors, stopping in front of certain rooms and looking to see if it was the dining room. We passed several more bedrooms, a study, a gym and a room with a large t.v. Finally we came across the dining room, the table covered in food that made my mouth water at the thought of eating it. I walked in and looked at the table, Lin stepped out and smiled.
"Eat as much as you please." He said. I looked at it for a moment before walking over to the end of the table and grabbing a plate. I piled it full of food, some I have never seen before and some I have never heard of before. When I had filled my plate I sat down at the end of the table and grabbed a knife and fork. Disclaimer: Characters and world belong to J. K. Rowling
Remus strode through the snow, making his way home. It was still early in the evening, but he couldn't take the festivities at the Potters any longer. It wasn't that he didn't like spending time with them. It was just that he hated Christmas - especially Christmas Eve - and he was too depressed to be social. He had only agreed to come in the first place because James and his parents had pressured him to join them. They didn't understand that he wanted to be alone and wallow in self-pity. He just wanted to go home, light a fire in the fireplace, get into bed and get this day over with.
He shuddered and tugged his coat and scarf tighter around himself. It was

The door opened for the final time that night, hitting the wall with a loud slam. The three people inside the room turned to see who the person was. The man in the door stood with a large grin on his face, his eyes restless as they scanned the gathering.
"Well isn't this cute." He mumbled, striding in and shutting the door with a bit to much force. He sat down in the last seat, kicking his black trainers onto the table. "Howdy."
