for the COMPREHENSIVE stuff, head on over to my blog at http://snowfern.com, check out the links in the sidebar, or plow through my wordy posts for links, tips and general ramblings.
i will no longer entertain questions related to how i make/where to buy stuff as 1) i'm more interested in making than teaching 2) it's faster for both of us if you'd just read or google for it 3) i'm not a fan of tautology. oh, and i'm a grumpy old lady XD
if it's not stated in the blog, it means i consider it either common knowledge (which you can find easily with the help of google or a quick browse at the bookstore/library) or that i just don't feel like writing about it (due to either complications, or lack of confidence, or just...don't want to). I think the most important lesson a person can learn, is learning how to learn yanno, learning how to fish vs given a fish, yada yada yada...
but, for those with a shorter attention span (me inclusive, don't get all insulted ok? XD)

Robin Williams was my first favorite actor. I remember seeing him in "Dead Poets Society" when I was 9 years old, and I truly got him, even in this movie made for adults. I loved writing even then, but it taught me more about looking at the world in a different way, following your passions, and being silly no matter what anyone else thinks.
When I saw him as the Genie in "Aladdin," I was amazed that someone could be so funny without having to resort to cheap humor. And he didn't insult kids by dumbing down his jokes. Yes, maybe it took years for me to understand all his references, but that just made it so I could appreciate the nuances of the film for years to come. In my mind, he ushered in Disney Renaissance, proving that kids' movies could be enjoyable for people of all ages and comedy was gold.
"Hook" changed my life. It was so magical and painful and real. I'll never forget watching the

How to : Find Art ThievesPlease this journal, so that a lot of people can read it.How to : Find Art Thieves2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
I noticed that a lot of people don't know how to search for their photos on the internet, so here is a short tutorial. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do about art thieves, but i still think it is important to look out for them.
1. visit Google.com
2. Go to the page of the photo you want to search and click "show image"
3. Copy the Link and paste it into google.
4. This page should open, click "search by image".
5. Now you can browse trough the results.
6. The less results the happier you should be.
EDIT : You can also use websites like : tineye.com and iqdb.com
This was pointed out to me by some people, personally i have no experience with them, but i am sure that they work too.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays!
Have a wonderful time with your loved ones and I hope Santa left something special for you under the Christmas tree
There is a special dA offer that expires on 26th December. If you give one premium membership as a gift, dA gifts a premium membership of the same value to you.
So I decided to make one of my watchers happy, and they can make their friend happy too.
I decided to give one lucky deviant a 3 month premium membership in the points equivalent.
I won't give you a premium membership directly, 'cos that would mean I would get one from dA myself.
I will give you 636 points (which is a 3 month premium membership value) and when you get it, you can buy your special friend a 3 month premium membership and you will get the same gift from deviantart.
So, that means two premium memberships, for you and your friend (:
But be careful, the offer expires on the 26th o
Celebrate deviantART's 13th Birthday!Celebrate deviantART's 13th Birthday!2 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
On the day of your birth, you were likely surrounded by those who loved you, who would lead you through the rough first scary years of life, and who would stand by as you grew into a capable person. As time passed, others may have drifted into your life, and even if you didn't know it, they also nurtured and cared for you in much the same way, helping to shape the person you would become.
When a community like deviantART is born, the same common thread binds its originators and founding members together. Over the years, more and more creative beings drift into its life and strengthen its core every single day, resulting in an exponentially inspirational powerhouse for the sheer fact that they've become a part of it. That nurturing spirit, that inherent support system, that caring community inspires deviantART to grow, and it comes from inside each and every one of you.
HEADS UP ON OCTOBER CONTESTA REMINDERHEADS UP ON OCTOBER CONTEST2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Every year around October I hold a Halloween contest. I am going to be doing that this year. last year there wasent enough notice for every one to participate and we didn't have enough to judge on. this year the contest end date is the same October 31. but I'm going to give you allot more time to think about what you are going to do. the topics that are up for this is CROWS or Ravens, owls, wolves, cats. they need to have a very obvious Halloween feel to them, like they need to be something you would look at and think Halloween. the prizes are similar, including clay samples, clay tools, necklaces, books and possibly my trick or treating candy again this year. good luck start thinking about what your going to do, even though its still summer. I'm excited to see some amazing things. if anyone feels inclined to donate prizes that would also be awesome, but don't feel obligated we have lots of stuff to offer.

Elf Christmas ListStole it from ThePetiteShop Loved the idea and already found a way to be an elf for someone else :3Elf Christmas List2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Make a post in your dA journal (the manual INCLUDED - I wont grant any wishes, if I see no manual). The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
If you wish for real-life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
Surf around your friends list (or friends friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
If you see a wish you can grant,

Movies featuring the latest in high tech digital effects, eye-popping CGI environments and ear-splitting surround sound, are often described as “pushing the envelope.” But they’re mega-million-dollar productions that are delivered back to the studios by the filmmakers precisely as pre-ordered. Rarely is there danger of disaster, so what envelope has been pushed?
“Envelope-shredder” might be a better designation for Brian Taylor...
Who, usually in collaboration with partner-in-mayhem Mark Neveldine, has given the world such films as Crank, Crank: High Voltage, Gamer, Pathology, and recently Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.
