Celebrating Diversity #13In this issue of Celebrating Diversity, I would like to remind you of an amazing feeling...when you see a piece of art created in a medium or genre that you have little or no experience of working in, and it feels like you're witnessing something magical, something beyond your comprehension.
It's wonderful to revel in the joy of How do they do that? and find inspiration in the creations of other artists. So I challenge you to take a step outside of the galleries that you regularly browse and immerse yourself in the experience of indulging in something new.
How do you celebrate diversity?
Do you regularly browse, comment on and collect art that's wildly different from what you create?
Do you watch artists who use mediums that you don't use in your own

1. Happy Holidays and Merry New Year
As the old year begins to fade into the sunset, it is customary to reflect on the passing year and make plans for the upcoming one. Some do this in the form of resolutions, some people make action plans, some people just swing into the new year the same way they swung out of the old one Whatever way you intend to welcome in 2013, I hope you're surrounded by love and that you do it safely!
I've been reflecting on the year and like many, with some focus on the unimaginable events of the last few weeks. Specifically, the shooting in Newtown. I know that it's "human nature" to want to find

1. Miscellaneous vs Other
Over the past few months, we've been diligently working on cleaning up the category tree of old and unused categories. While most of this will go unnoticed by the community, what you will notice is the change from "Miscellaneous" galleries to "Other". The reason for this change is simple. The concept of Miscellaneous leads one to believe that it's a junk drawer category for everything under the sun when the intention was to be an "Other" category for deviations that don't fit well in other sub-categories of the tree. We're also working on u

Everyday we're CV'ingAs a Community Volunteer - I do as much or as little within the community that I feel comfortable doing. We're not pressured to do this and that, we don't even have to give a Daily Deviation every day, we choose how we promote our selected galleries/chats and forums and we're not fixed to any specific rule on how much or how little we do. But I do believe that it's important to share with you just what the community volunteers do and why we do it. More importantly it's so easy to get lost on this site full of many people - and miss out on the awesome that's going on. So I'm going to share with you exactly what the latest awesome is...Everyday we're CV'ing3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This

Celebrating Diversity #2Welcome to the 2nd edition of Celebrating Diversity! This series of articles aims to bring you outside of your comfort zone in terms of Art and showcase from a wider range of galleries to embrace the diverse nature of the submissions to deviantART. Not only are we stepping you outside your normal 'go to' galleries - but we as the writers of this fantastic series, are visiting places that we wouldn't normally go to as well.Celebrating Diversity #23 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
As humans , we are all different. We have so many types of all sorts of things in the world such as cars, jobs, flavours of crisps, hair colours and so on - as Charles De Gualle once said, " How can you govern a country that has 246 different types of cheese?" It's a challenge to embrace so many things, but one that we should try hard to accept.

"A photograph says that you were so important, I stopped everything else to come and preserve you."
This week Horacio Coppola died. Many will not know the name, but in the Photography world he was pretty awesome. He died age 105, and was famous for taking Black and White photographs of Buenos Aires in the 1930s. But he also photographed normality. Some of his works included egg and twine - quite simply an egg and a piece of twine. Others featured a typewriter, but ultimately he shot normality, the everyday things that people overlooked. He's said to be one of very few photographers who manage to capture the romance, vitality and squalor of a great city. So a legend has died, but somewhere another will rise up through the ranks. Who inspires you? Which historical Artists have provoked you to reach the place where you are now? Or who you aspire to be?

Celebrating Diversity #12This edition of Celebrating Diversity I want to focus on two extremes of art: Extremely detailed and realistic works and minimal and abstract art. Both tendencies or trends have their place and time in art and history and are appreciated by many people. Not always does one person like both, but to me personally, art has always been more about feeling, than about complexity. Something simple can touch me emotionally as well as something blasting with details. Art is just as individual as every human being!Celebrating Diversity #122 years ago in Art Features More Like This

PE: Daily Deviations - The Myth and the LegendDaily Deviations, or DDs . . . for some deviants, receiving one is the epitome of awesomesauce in the deviantART world. For others, they are a nice way to show off the work of lesser-known artists. Still others treat them as a special way to bring attention to great art that exemplifies works being done by a particular gallery or community.PE: Daily Deviations - The Myth and the Legend3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Perhaps because there are so many different ways of conceptualizing DDs, there are also many myths and misconceptions. I would like to address some of those myths by responding to the ones most frequently heard. Please note that these opinions are mine and reflect my experiences with the photomanipulation community, but perhaps they will be informative nevertheless.
Myth 1: DDs should always be perfect.
To many of us, the ideal Daily Deviation goes to an artist with amazing talent whose work draws you in and makes you think, "Wow, everyone needs to see this!" A DD should move you, inspire you, and provoke you to think, b

Celebrating Diversity #3Hello, everyone!Celebrating Diversity #33 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
When we don't see enough of a particular art form, it is difficult for us to understand or appreciate it. This project aims to bring you features that you might not have seen otherwise from a variety of galleries around dA. For example, I tend to live and breathe photomanipulations and (to a lesser extent) digital art, and I really enjoyed taking a moment to browse the non-photomanipulation galleries for treasures. I found many, and I hope you will enjoy the features I have chosen.

PE Daily Deviations- Presentation of your workHello all!PE Daily Deviations- Presentation of your work3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Well we’ve had a fascinating week so far; a week which hopefully has provided some insight not only to the process of DD selection but helped you understand what we look for in DDs as CVs. As we draw to the end of this week, I bring you an article which will whet your Saturday with thoughts that don’t just apply to the DD feature, but something which should be a consideration to everything you submit to dA. I am talking about deviation presentation.
Why is Presentation important?
Art isn’t always about just being “creative”. There are techniques and skills which develop over time which contribute to the quality of the work you produce and alongside this comes a developed understanding of good presentation.
Good presentation could be anything from cropping a photograph, to spell checking your literature. These are common sense things that in the rush of wanting to show off your creativity can sometimes be
Urbex #2Urban Exploration is the exploration of man-made structures. Usually these are abandoned ruins, or components that used to be part of everyday life but are no longer seen on a regular basis by the human eye. This series of articles aims to highlight exactly what Urban Exploration is, how it's achieved and the some of the best Urbex Photographers here on deviantART.Urbex #22 years ago in Art Features More Like This
The internet has provided Urban explorers with many opportunities to garner news of new locations, the best places to go to 'urban explore' and what to avoid. Additionally social media means that we can share places that others will never see, and never hoped to see until the introduction of the internet and the ease with which we can communicate. So as this series goes on, we're going to look at some of the top Urban Exploration websites, at the current time, online. Contamination Zone is dedicated to Photographing Urban Decay across the United Kingdom. As far as urbex sites go, i
Celebrating Diversity #1Welcome to this new series of Art Features! Even tho most of you are aware of the many many galleries and categories here on dA, I think most of us move in a sort of "comfort zone" between Galleries, Channels or Groups that provide us with a constant flow of new art. And sometimes we forget all the other great artforms, styles and media that are out of our "comfort zone". And today I want to step out of that warm and cuddly place and feature some awesome works from places on dA I don't usually visit!Celebrating Diversity #13 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Since this is the first entry, I thought I should explain it a bit more, so that is why there is more text in this article The topic of celebrating diversity is something that I really want to cherish. I am guilty of not fully
Not So Traditional Tuesdays #11Sorry about this being a day late! I was out half of the day yesterday, and lost track of time while painting for the rest of it.Not So Traditional Tuesdays #112 years ago in Art Features More Like This
This little feature is now into the double digits of editions . This wasn't something I that had I planned on doing. Originally this was just a one off article because I was bored one day, and started typing in random search words. It is still fun to do though, so I think it will keep going until it no longer is.
I like to think that the things that make one piece of art great applies, for the most part, to other genres. A painter can learn how light and shadow fall from photography, photo-manipulators can learn about composition from a great Manga drawing, and literature can give you the inspiration to try something new or take your work to the next step. You may never try all art forms you see! You can however take what you learn from them and incorporate that into your own work. It could be the difference between stagnating and tha
Photomanipulation vs. Digital Mixed MediaWhat is this series?Photomanipulation vs. Digital Mixed Media2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
The "Fix that Miscat" series has been designed to help educate deviantART members about the different galleries to which they can submit their art. Tired of submitting to a particular gallery and having your art moved to a different one? We will help minimize this occurrence by examining pairs of categories that frequently get confused and doing our best to clarify them for you.
What is a Photomanipulation?
What it is:
On deviantART, we define photomanipulation as "two or more PHOTOGRAPHIC elements that have been combined to form something NEW."
This means that:
At least 2 elements must be from photographs.
The result must be something new and different, distinguishable from the original.
What it is not:
It does not involve 3D images, even if there are also photos involved.

Traditional Tuesdays #44***WARNING: Viewing these works of art may cause giddiness, elevated heart rates, and happiness in the pants(which could lead to blindness)! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!***Traditional Tuesdays #443 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Now with the warming out of the way, Hi, and welcome to the 44th edition of Traditional Tuesdays. This week, like all of the other weeks, I'll be featuring fifteen works of art from the Traditional Gallery. Any more than that might and you might loss interest or it could cause your monitor to fail in an explosion of awesomeness. I would feel guilty if that were to happen, so I'm keeping it at fifteen! The Traditional gallery is a vast storeroom of work that covers many mediums and genres. I've tried to show a diverse array of artwork, but I don't have room for them all. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
