Russian politics: the art of flimsy excuses. On the whole, believe there’s a difference between the people that run a country and the rest of the people who live within its borders. Politicians, regardless of where in the world they hail from, are generally bullies. You have to be a special kind of egomanic, self-serving prick to claw your way into a position where you have the power to put other people in harm’s way to benefit your own agenda. The only difference geography seems to bring is a level of subtlety. British politicians are slimy and insidious, American politicians rely on drama and theatre, and as we’ve seen over the last couple of days: Russian politicians are obsessed with proving they carry the biggest stick, at the expense of everything else.Russian politics: the art of flimsy excuses.1 week ago in Personal More Like This
Of course, in order to prove you have a big stick, you have to actually use it. That’s quite difficult in this day and age. A couple of hundred years ago, a master of a people could just point to a spot on the map, say “Want!” and his army
Painting a Deity/godDuring painting an image of any deity/god an artist must remember that a deity as such is an intellectually emanated(manasi sristi) being. That is, each deity represents a particular and specific aspect of cosmos/God. And the image of deity is supposed to bring to mind that essence or the aspect of that particular deity.Painting a Deity/god10 months ago in Personal More Like This
There are two distinct ways in which an artist creates his works. He proceeds from universal to the particular or from the particular to the universal. In the case of the imagery of the deity it is the first case. It is called Dhyatva Kuryat, the intellectual conception precedes the actual creation of work.
For example, in the imagery of Brahma, apart from representing all the lakshanas(symbols) like the four heads, four hands, lotus etc, one must make sure that the real essence of the deity is represented. Brahma is basically a Rajasik(active) deity always involved in the action of creation of universe. Hence any depiction of him as being extremely violent bordering
Respect...Recently...there was a rather unpleasant incident in my gallery involving a somewhat...overzealous commentor. It spurred me to make a journal covering two aspects of the concept of respect.Respect...1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Some people on this website don't seem to understand how things they say, which to them seems COMPLETELY normal and acceptable, may be incredibly offensive to others like making a comment on an image with only suggestive levels of eroticism without even a hint of nudity with "i would dominate her and force her to suck my cock!" or a character design thats nothing more than a pose, also clothed with "i would crawl under her dress first and lick her pussy..." or any other random comment that contains "buttfucking", "bukkake" and so on. Honestly? On what planet does that equal acceptable behavior? Granted yes I draw fetish art, but I'd like to think that the majority of us are capable of carrying ourselves with a certain degree of decorum and respect each other enough to keep most of the more twisted l
How I Broke into Concept ArtSorry I've been away, everyone. Things are getting progressively busier and busier, but it's all good because I'm happily employed at Riot Games as an associate concept artist! I'm living with my friend in fumy downtown Los Angeles trying to find a place to live in sunny Santa Monica, where my beloved studio is.How I Broke into Concept Art3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Consider this a rough step-by-step tutorial of how to break into the industry based on my experience, the mistakes I made and the things I learned along the way - while they are fresh in my mind. Anyone listening to my story should know that since it already happened, by repeating the same process you won't be able to get the same results. You will need to work harder, because I just took your spot.
Now, the big dogs out there will have much more information about the industry, how it works and what they like to see. I'm simply attempting to sum up how I would approach it if I had 5 years to do it over.

Myths About Circumcision You Likely Believe (pt 1)Original article by Lillian Dell'Aquila Cannon and Darcia Narvaez. I'm sharing what was posted via Psychology Today. This was not written by 8manderz8Myths About Circumcision You Likely Believe (pt 1)1 year ago in Personal More Like This
When I was pregnant with my first child, I just thought that circumcision was what you did, no big deal, and that every man was circumcised. Then one day I saw a picture of a baby being circumcised, and everything changed. Just one tiny, grainy photo was enough to make me want to know more, and the more I knew, the worse it got. It turns out, circumcision really is a big deal.
Part 1 - Circumcision Surgery Myths
Myth 1: They just cut off a flap of skin.
Reality check: Not true. The foreskin is half of the penis's skin, not just a flap. In an adult man, the foreskin is 15 square inches of skin. In babies and children, the

Episode 001: CommuniqueHargun sat on the command chair of the Union's massive space station, the Argus, floating above the beautiful sight of Mirach Prime. This was the main hub of the Union's command and control in Ancerious, and so much information came through here that very soon they were going to need an additional processing station to make sure it all got through. However, Hargun was reviewing the latest reports when suddenly on the lower rung below him one of the communication surveyors called out to him.Episode 001: Communique3 months ago in Personal More Like This
"Sir, something called a 'Combine' is attempting to speak to you?" The man said quite confused. “It's accessed the Union's coms receiver and is broadcasting directly to your coms station”
“Took them long enough,” Hargun said smiling, Finally, they were calling. He tapped a few controls and brought it up.
“What exactly are they wanting, Ensign?” Hargun asked.
"For you to answer the communicator, sir." The man replied.

10 Things to Do on International Tiger Day!I just wanted to stop by to wish everyone a very happy International Tiger Day!10 Things to Do on International Tiger Day!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
International Tiger Day was declared in 2010 at the St. Petersberg Tiger Summit. What can you do to celebrate, you ask? Well you could:
1) Watch a cool tiger documentary, like this one and this one!
2) Get informed on tiger conservation issues. There are an estimated 3,200 tigers remaining in the wild, but why? Go to a local book store or library and check out a book on tigers. I'd recommend "Tigers of the World" by Valmik Thapar or "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel. Do a Google search on tigers...there is plenty of information out there, all you have to do is go looking! Spread awareness here on dA and elsewhere!
3) Plan a fundraiser at your local school or place of work to raise money!
4) Do some volunteer work at your local zoo or exotic animal rescue (be sure they're legitimate though). Ask the zo

For the first article, I asked faestock, Tasastock, and kirilee all about how to set up a shooting area. Let's see what wisdom they have for us!
What are the best kind of lights? How many should I have? What kind of bulbs give the best light?
:iconfaestock: Faestock says:
If you have access to studio lighting then I prefer to use a large Elenchrom soft box. The soft box provides a soft flattering light for most subjects. A direct flash can be harsh, using some kind of filter, like a beauty dish, grate or soft box is better. I would also suggest rigging the stand with wheels so it is easily adjustable, as one inch to the left can make all the difference when you

"If you could have any super power, what would it be?" I think it's a question we all have to answer at some point. We're innately curious about the unknown and enjoy diving into the depths of imagination. We know it's not possible, but we can't shake the question of, "What if?"
I don't think my answer has changed since I was asked as a child. I never saw much need for invisibility. I don't think I would enjoy being a mind reader. And sure, shooting laser beams out of my hands would be fun, but there's something that I've always been drawn to more.
I would like to fly.
To me, flight represents freedom. It's the ability to travel around without borders, coming and going as you please. I initially associate it with being closer to nature, as well, somethin

The Leviathan and the Death of HopeWarning: contains spoilers concerning the Leviathan DLC, Mass Effect 3 and my notions about what good writing is. Duh.The Leviathan and the Death of Hope2 years ago in Personal More Like This
There are moments when I wish I could just turn off my writer's sense at a whim and "just go with it". Ignore that a story in a game, or a movie, or a book, or a TV show is flawed in my opinion, just to enjoy the views, get an adrenaline rush from all the flashing colors and have fun. And truth be told - it usually works that way... Just not for the universes I tend to care about. If you got me invested in your franchise, I will expect you to deliver the goods. 'Tis how the cookie crumbles.
Which brings me to the Leviathan DLC. I've seen a lot of positive reviews and emotions towards it popping up all over the internet before I was even able to check it out myself. My hopes were high, and, initially, I loved it. It had a sense of exploration Mass Effect 3 was seriously lacking and the TGES Mining Base really reminded me of Noveria... It was spot on.

Making of Witch's Quarry OR ..."How I manage a daily, colored, long-format comic while working retail".Making of Witch's Quarry OR ...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Making of Witch's Quarry, sounds so damn pompous, but I couldn't think of a better way to describe what I'm going to be posting and my alternative title was too long. So pompous I am!
So I'm going to be posting some more detailed essays on my creative process and how I learned to streamline them into making a daily updated, fully colored, long form online comic while working retail 20-30 hours a week. Feel free to completely ignore my rambles if you think I'm of no authority to be posting such advice. I am by no means a master of comic craft, nor do I have any formal training in writing, coloring or paneling for that matter. I took animation classes in college, most of which I disregarded or was somewhat mediocre at.
Still I think if I'm good at anything, it's delivering a decently entertaining product in excellent time frame.
Which in this world,

“Have you heard of Patreon?”
“Why doesn’t your site have a Donate button?”
Put simply, I have this (evidently archaic) opinion that; if you want to make money, you have to do the work first. I don’t like the idea of taking money off people unless they get something for it immediately, not [insert timeframe here] down the line. It feels like a scam. That’s why I produce all those cheap digital comics: to finance my larger projects (and which is why I get pissed off when I find them being distributed freely online, because it slows everything down).
Even for large projects, like video-games that only have a niche audience and which big publishers won’t ever assist: I don’t see crowd funding as a particularly good way to go about getting production capital. I prefer the early release approach, such as that Mojang took with Minecraft.
No complete product? Giv

Over the years I have produced a range of tutorials on artistic use of the computer. Most of them concerns rather general concepts and can hopefully give something regardless of which program you are using or even be of some interest for traditional, non-digital artists. Some examples of my art can be found in the gallery.
That said, to get the most out of these you should know that I mainly use the open-source image manipulation program GIMP. I also work a lot with the painter program MyPaint. These are both very powerful programs capable of great artistic expression. Being open-source programs, they are both legally free to download and use without any cost. They exist for many platforms, including Linux, Mac and Windows, so they are worth trying out if you haven't already.
The tutorials listed below tend are (ver
Amidst the Winter Court“In retrospect it was completely ironic, here we have the Flux Ascendancy using the Immortal Empire as a unruly cudgel to bludgeon the galaxy into submission. Our agreement is similar, in a few ways, a temporal and non-temporal faction forging an agreement and such. The difference however lay that our agreement is more a partnership against a single foe we both have a stern dislike for. I might add rather than being a cudgel as the IE is, we more or less play the role of a cavalry saber. " – Enrico Hess.Amidst the Winter Court2 months ago in Personal More Like This

RetardA couple of people (literally only two, but it's a matter worth mentioning) emailed me after they had read the most recent Sequential Art strip, in which the fictitious element “Retardium” is mentioned. Both messages voiced disapproval at my using the word “Retard” due to its slang referencing of the mentally disabled.Retard2 months ago in Personal More Like This
That interpretation of the word, in my eyes, is outdated.
Used in describing a mentally disabled individual, “retard” is a slur, and (as with any slur) anyone who says it in that context deserves a sharp blow to the head. However, used to describe a “wilfully ignorant, able-bodied idiot”, I think “retard” is perfectly acceptable. I’ll wager that everyone reading this knows someone that can accurately be described as a "f**king retard", none of whom are disabled in the slightest, nor in using the word is a mentally disabled person even thought of.
I’ve not heard “retard” used to des

we have a new rules amendment to the rules section:
“Ancerious seems to be a honey pot of Empires, don’t be fooled boy, there are many out there that we have yet to see...”- Captain Alexander of the Adectu Empire to a Adectu ensign.
The Ancerious galaxy role play is based in a massive spiral type galaxy not unlike the Milky Way galaxy we know in real life. As the current map indicates the known nations have barely explored the massive expanse of the galaxy. Such a sight as seen on the map is surely inviting to those sentient species out there looking to expand, or perhaps merely looking for some place to call home free of some great trouble. We know clearly from the areas of the galaxy that are charted that there are many races in the galaxy already and there is the potential for contact with countless others in the unexplo
