Why do we call them 'destroyers' anyway? It's a common trope in sci-fi that Space is an Ocean [WARNING - TV TROPES LINK], and so when we talk about spacecraft classification, naval terminology creeps into our work. I think some of this is unavoidable. For one, the Space is an Ocean meme is a powerful one, and it's been heavily reinforced over decades of use. The other is that while I personally expect any future space forces to evolve from the Space Commands of existing Air Forces, once you get the ability to build large space-going warships and send them days or weeks out of contact from home, the Navy's organizational model starts making more sense over the Air Force model (pace, SG Universe.)Why do we call them 'destroyers' anyway?6 months ago in Personal More Like This
But that's not what I want to write about.
I think this 'creep' has extended so far that we've forgotten (or just didn't know), what all of those ship classifications even mean, or haven't taken a good look at whether a particular wet navy
Painting a Deity/godDuring painting an image of any deity/god an artist must remember that a deity as such is an intellectually emanated(manasi sristi) being. That is, each deity represents a particular and specific aspect of cosmos/God. And the image of deity is supposed to bring to mind that essence or the aspect of that particular deity.Painting a Deity/god2 years ago in Personal More Like This
There are two distinct ways in which an artist creates his works. He proceeds from universal to the particular or from the particular to the universal. In the case of the imagery of the deity it is the first case. It is called Dhyatva Kuryat, the intellectual conception precedes the actual creation of work.
For example, in the imagery of Brahma, apart from representing all the lakshanas(symbols) like the four heads, four hands, lotus etc, one must make sure that the real essence of the deity is represented. Brahma is basically a Rajasik(active) deity always involved in the action of creation of universe. Hence any depiction of him as being extremely violent bordering
The Theriozoic ProjectSo at this point, some of you may know about my Theriozoic Project, aka, the "Permian Extinction Never Happened" project. I'm here to explain some of the things about the project itself, as I know there are a few of you who wish to contribute, perhaps for it's not-yet-existent group. The Theriozoic Project2 months ago in Personal More Like This
Basically, the group follows up from the Early Triassic all the way to the Holocene. Now this is certainly no simple task, as there are many more million years of evolution to catalog, all from fauna and flora back in the Late Permian, which is where we will go off of on designs. Basically, you gotta use Late Permian organisms as reference.
However, unlike a more traditional K-T extinction never happened, there is much more room for wide speculation!
So anyways, here is a few ideas for creatures to use as a base:
Gorgonopsians: Survived until the Late Triassic.
Therocephalians: Survived until the Early Cretaceous.

A Rude Awakening
Let me tell you a tale of a newborns journey within Starcrew, and how difficult the road can be.
I remember waking up hearing my alarm going off, screeching a hideous noise, although this wasn't my actual alarm. It was simply the alarm of, some shit is going down, and you need to get up, otherwise I would sleep all day,
I slowly got out of bed, reached over to the intercom and told them I was coming down. The ship was cold, it had been weeks since we rested at a space city, and we would save fuel by keeping the heating down.
Peering outside of my window, while I was getting dressed, staring into the nothingness of space, I noticed how much the colder the world seemed, perhaps a foreshadowing of things to come. But I didn't let it bother me, I stepped outside into living quarters hallway, a large thump came from Kroes room, you could say he isn't really the early bird type. The hallway was nicely lit, making the place seem more plea
2D + 3D CommissionsHello, you arrived at my Commisions page2D + 3D Commissions3 years ago in Personal More Like This
If you are interested in getting a CGI image created for you, please continue to the section you are interested in. There are three sections:
2D section covers all kind of colored, shaded images, preferably drawn with outlines.
3D works is about polygonal objects of all kinds, textured and with some post-processing for nice looks.
Vector images refer to things drawn with hard lines and occasional shading, such as blueprints and ink-like drawings.
I do all kinds of art and I'm opened to different styles (vector drawings of a Star Wars ship, 3D render of a Stargate vehicle, blueprint for a Dune tank and of course every kind of original universe objects and scenes) so don't be afraid to ask for anything that you can think of.
You can also check examples of my commisioned work and private gallery works on the bottom of this entry.
I am looking forward to working with you and seeing a happy finish
Please note that preferably I acc

The Leviathan and the Death of HopeWarning: contains spoilers concerning the Leviathan DLC, Mass Effect 3 and my notions about what good writing is. Duh.The Leviathan and the Death of Hope2 years ago in Personal More Like This
There are moments when I wish I could just turn off my writer's sense at a whim and "just go with it". Ignore that a story in a game, or a movie, or a book, or a TV show is flawed in my opinion, just to enjoy the views, get an adrenaline rush from all the flashing colors and have fun. And truth be told - it usually works that way... Just not for the universes I tend to care about. If you got me invested in your franchise, I will expect you to deliver the goods. 'Tis how the cookie crumbles.
Which brings me to the Leviathan DLC. I've seen a lot of positive reviews and emotions towards it popping up all over the internet before I was even able to check it out myself. My hopes were high, and, initially, I loved it. It had a sense of exploration Mass Effect 3 was seriously lacking and the TGES Mining Base really reminded me of Noveria... It was spot on.
Respect...Recently...there was a rather unpleasant incident in my gallery involving a somewhat...overzealous commentor. It spurred me to make a journal covering two aspects of the concept of respect.Respect...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Some people on this website don't seem to understand how things they say, which to them seems COMPLETELY normal and acceptable, may be incredibly offensive to others like making a comment on an image with only suggestive levels of eroticism without even a hint of nudity with "i would dominate her and force her to suck my cock!" or a character design thats nothing more than a pose, also clothed with "i would crawl under her dress first and lick her pussy..." or any other random comment that contains "buttfucking", "bukkake" and so on. Honestly? On what planet does that equal acceptable behavior? Granted yes I draw fetish art, but I'd like to think that the majority of us are capable of carrying ourselves with a certain degree of decorum and respect each other enough to keep most of the more twisted l

Theatrics aside, it made me ponder on why Britain has this villainous reputation, and I started to compile a list:
The British Empire was the biggest drug-dealing organisation in history and made a fortune selling opium to China. In the mid 19th century, when the Chinese Emperor tried to stop them, they sent in The Nemesis – basically the Death Star of the era – which proceeded to decimate the entire Chinese fleet. Then they stole Hong Kong.
In an emergency, such as a disaster or terror attack, an intelligence committee is convened. Its codename is “COBRA”.
The British military’s communication network is called “Skynet
Movie Talk: Pacific Rim ReviewAh, yeah, Guillermo Del Toro. To me, his name was always connected to Pan's Labyrinth, being the first Del Toro-movie i ever watched and which was indeed pretty impressive. It was later then when i realised that he also caused Hellboy and other things that would seem unlikely at first but – whatever; this guy got my interest after all and thus it was just a matter of fact that my ears would go all alert when there was news about Pacific Rim. (but before i start the babbling: why even talk about that at all? Well, because i simply love movies. And cinema. And i just watched it. And because i enjoy sharing thoughts. Duh.)Movie Talk: Pacific Rim Review1 year ago in Personal More Like This
So, what's the story.
Somewhen in the near future giant alien creatures emerge from a breach within the depths of the pacific and overrun the coasts. Thus, humanity adapts to the new danger and creates giant robots called Jäger, driven by two humane pilots to fight these critters. The story is introduced by ex-pilot Raleigh Becket off screen and even though the au

Over the years I have produced a range of tutorials on artistic use of the computer. Most of them concerns rather general concepts and can hopefully give something regardless of which program you are using or even be of some interest for traditional, non-digital artists. Some examples of my art can be found in the gallery.
That said, to get the most out of these you should know that I mainly use the open-source image manipulation program GIMP. I also work a lot with the painter program MyPaint. These are both very powerful programs capable of great artistic expression. Being open-source programs, they are both legally free to download and use without any cost. They exist for many platforms, including Linux, Mac and Windows, so they are worth trying out if you haven't already.
The tutorials listed below tend are (ver

Myths About Circumcision You Likely Believe (pt 1)Original article by Lillian Dell'Aquila Cannon and Darcia Narvaez. I'm sharing what was posted via Psychology Today. This was not written by 8manderz8Myths About Circumcision You Likely Believe (pt 1)2 years ago in Personal More Like This
When I was pregnant with my first child, I just thought that circumcision was what you did, no big deal, and that every man was circumcised. Then one day I saw a picture of a baby being circumcised, and everything changed. Just one tiny, grainy photo was enough to make me want to know more, and the more I knew, the worse it got. It turns out, circumcision really is a big deal.
Part 1 - Circumcision Surgery Myths
Myth 1: They just cut off a flap of skin.
Reality check: Not true. The foreskin is half of the penis's skin, not just a flap. In an adult man, the foreskin is 15 square inches of skin. In babies and children, the

On 1st January 2011 I started uploading pictures of Amanda here. I'd been privately drawing and writing about her for 15 years, but coming out and making an internet page was a huge step into the unknown. I wondered if anyone would notice the pictures; whether they would like my character and want to know more; whether I was the only person that wrote fantasy stories about being knocked out and captured; whether I'd be hounded out of deviantART as a dangerous weirdo.
As the odd person picked up and asked questions, monsieurpaul planted some links from his drawings of Amanda and Penelope, and I started to get a few page visits, even a couple of watchers. I wondered whether I would ever get as many as 20 watchers... if there were that many people out there who shared such tastes and fantasies.
Three years on, it's difficult to see what I would do without thi
My Worlds...Hello to any and all who may be reading this; for those who keep track of things around here, it’s been a while hasn’t it? I know I haven’t been as active here on DA as much as I’d probably like to be, especially compared to my earlier days here. Well, like all things, things change for me, and I have been occupied with other pressing matters. I’m currently attending an art college online, and I’ll be moving to Atlanta come January, 2015. Obviously, this will take up much of my time. Now this doesn’t mean I’ll disappear from DA; I know how annoying/disheartening it is when someone just stops posting forever. I just won’t be overly active for most of the time.My Worlds...3 months ago in Personal More Like This
Anyway, while I’m at this, I’d just like to thank everyone who’s ever faved, commented, or even just looked at my art here. It’s really been something that’s lifted my spirits. Sor

I've been away because I've been sick. A good kind of sick, mind you. I have a bun in the oven and have been spending a lovely 3 months clutching the toilet bowl. Holy pizza balls! Pregnancy nausea is horrible! But let me tell ya, once I got over it I felt so awesome that the thought of climbing Mount Everest doesn't even phase me. Haha... so I'd like to think. XD Yep, surviving the first trimester is a real ego booster. I have new respect for all the mommas out there. R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
I'm starting things slow and have been flexing my arting muscles over on tumblr, so if you'd like to see what I'm up to, head on over there: http://roorurooster.tumblr.com. Work on the comics "Gravity" and "NTGW" will start up again, albeit at a slightly decelerated rate. Adjusting to new routines and all that.
And lastly, Happy 2014! I didn't get to post a wish in my journal. Better late than never!

This isn't just because I like drawing (though I do like making art) But more so because an artist has got to make a living ya know :iconsweatingplz:
And thus I've made this Journal to keep all my uploads nice and neat by getting rid of all those link I've been putting under them and making it easier to upload so I'll only have to put one or two links in them from now on.
Speaking of those links. I don't know how many of you guys actually read artist descriptions but as I've said I'm trying to make a living off from working as an artist and all those links you've been seeing (If you've actually been paying attention) are my many and various fully completed portfolios for purchase that I've made. They are all available on a website called Lulu and I hope you would all take a look at them. Each portfolio contains the pictures I've uploaded here but larger and with all

Part 1. Like with "The 2800" story arc, a meeting will be held on Khitomer to discuss the Iconian Threat until reports start coming in about Deep Space Nine falling Under Attack by the Iconians. A combined Federation, Klingon and Romulan Fleet will arrive in an attempt to drive off the Iconians. The Iconians soon destroy Deep Space Nine despite the Combined fleets best efforts, this will establish the Iconians as a real and imminent threat prompting each government to pump out new ship designs to better combat the Iconians.
Part 2. In the Aftermath of the destruction of Deep Space Nine, the Starfleet Corp of Engineers Mobilizes to begin construction of a new more advanced station capable of defending itself much better than the Old Deep Space Nine. No Fear of FlyingI recently flew back from Italy. It's my first time outside North America. It was amazing to consider I started my return day on the Italian Riviera (no, I'm not rich…), then flew over the snow capped Alps, over the chilly North Atlantic dotted with floating icebergs as far as the eye could see, then over the still snow laced tundra of Labrador to arrive back in balmy New England. I don't take that for granted, and don't understand how any one can?No Fear of Flying8 months ago in Personal More Like This
For me flying is the closest I come to a religious experience. Maybe it's because it forces my brain to "think big". You can't look out the window and not see that humanity - all that stuff we take for granted: cars, houses, friends, family - is all just a fine dust distributed around a vast globe. But at the same time you see Earth more as a planet - a finite ecosystem in which powerful yet subtle natural processes shape the land and life.
I don't understand why more people aren't awed by the views and the change in perspective - esp
help fans of seasonal witches!I really should of came forward about this earlier, but I might not have the Summer Witch done on time for the solstice. Might just be a little late (unlike my little assignment for Duels of Matrimony which is basically written but I need to put it all together XD)help fans of seasonal witches!7 months ago in Personal More Like This
After all this time I am not satisfied with my ideas for what a summer witch would actually do. Like Harmony helps do good deeds and spreads joy and such. Newlyn renews and things. What would a Summer witch do over the summer? Like what service could she render to the world? If I get that idea that I like I might manage to type it out in time, but I assume that no one will mind.
I have this idea that is a party animal, but I don't want her to be a Dionysus necessarily. Well, idk again I am coming to you guys for help. If anyone has any suggestions that don't involve murder or other crimes I'll be glad to hear them ^^
The idea is sort of modern world fairy tale, and it does not have to have romance nor transformation.
blardy blarI dunno if there is a way to customize what DA shows you on the home page since the new update, but for me it's the dreaded "what's hot" section. All I see is mostly or all the way naked women, drawings or photos or whatever. It's frustrating and makes me feel like this is more of a soft porn site rather than an art site. I want to see ART not more ass and tits. All I see everyday is a constant barrage of ass and tits everywhere and I am sick of it.blardy blar2 months ago in Personal More Like This
