Coffee is a very personal part of a person’s life. Having a “way you take your coffee” is as much an indication of the crossing over into adulthood as a first broken heart. Even when psychically rudderless and adrift, awaking to morning in one of those blank margins of one’s life, there is always the next start, a new start—in that first cup of coffee. Coffee is the one nonjudgemental friend who never betrays.
“Coffee makes us severe and grave and philosophical.”

Why do we call them 'destroyers' anyway? It's a common trope in sci-fi that Space is an Ocean [WARNING - TV TROPES LINK], and so when we talk about spacecraft classification, naval terminology creeps into our work. I think some of this is unavoidable. For one, the Space is an Ocean meme is a powerful one, and it's been heavily reinforced over decades of use. The other is that while I personally expect any future space forces to evolve from the Space Commands of existing Air Forces, once you get the ability to build large space-going warships and send them days or weeks out of contact from home, the Navy's organizational model starts making more sense over the Air Force model (pace, SG Universe.)Why do we call them 'destroyers' anyway?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
But that's not what I want to write about.
I think this 'creep' has extended so far that we've forgotten (or just didn't know), what all of those ship classifications even mean, or haven't taken a good look at whether a particular wet navy
Painting a Deity/godDuring painting an image of any deity/god an artist must remember that a deity as such is an intellectually emanated(manasi sristi) being. That is, each deity represents a particular and specific aspect of cosmos/God. And the image of deity is supposed to bring to mind that essence or the aspect of that particular deity.Painting a Deity/god2 years ago in Personal More Like This
There are two distinct ways in which an artist creates his works. He proceeds from universal to the particular or from the particular to the universal. In the case of the imagery of the deity it is the first case. It is called Dhyatva Kuryat, the intellectual conception precedes the actual creation of work.
For example, in the imagery of Brahma, apart from representing all the lakshanas(symbols) like the four heads, four hands, lotus etc, one must make sure that the real essence of the deity is represented. Brahma is basically a Rajasik(active) deity always involved in the action of creation of universe. Hence any depiction of him as being extremely violent bordering

we live in the age of kickstarter and patreon....
people are supporting all sorts of projects...
NO! I'M NOT SETTING UP A KICKSTARTER OR PATREON!
i don't have the patience not the focus to handle all that... but it did get me thinking...
if teasers for projects can get people to fund it... what aout the full thing?
i don't do crowdfunding. i make comics.
i publish comics. if people love and buy my comics... i get to make more comics.
so with that in mind. i will post the entirety of death vigil here.
from there on it's in the hands of the readers. if you want to support the book being made, i will post the comixology links, and image digital links, as well as trade preorder links.
so if you feel this is your kind of comic, and it's something you want to see made in it'y entirety..and can afford to support it by buying it...thank you.
if not, i still hope you like it. so with no further a do... this week i will be uploading issues.

If you are interested in getting a CGI image created for you, please continue to the section you are interested in. There are three sections:
2D section covers all kind of colored, shaded images, preferably drawn with outlines.
3D works is about polygonal objects of all kinds, textured and with some post-processing for nice looks.
Vector images refer to things drawn with hard lines and occasional shading, such as blueprints and ink-like drawings.
I do all kinds of art and I'm opened to different styles (vector drawings of a Star Wars ship, 3D render of a Stargate vehicle, blueprint for a Dune tank and of course every kind of original universe objects and scenes) so don't be afraid to ask for anything that you can think of.
You can also check examples of my commisioned work and private gallery works on the bottom of this entry.
I am looking forward to working with you and seeing a happy finish
Please note that preferably I accept pa
The Leviathan and the Death of HopeWarning: contains spoilers concerning the Leviathan DLC, Mass Effect 3 and my notions about what good writing is. Duh.The Leviathan and the Death of Hope3 years ago in Personal More Like This
There are moments when I wish I could just turn off my writer's sense at a whim and "just go with it". Ignore that a story in a game, or a movie, or a book, or a TV show is flawed in my opinion, just to enjoy the views, get an adrenaline rush from all the flashing colors and have fun. And truth be told - it usually works that way... Just not for the universes I tend to care about. If you got me invested in your franchise, I will expect you to deliver the goods. 'Tis how the cookie crumbles.
Which brings me to the Leviathan DLC. I've seen a lot of positive reviews and emotions towards it popping up all over the internet before I was even able to check it out myself. My hopes were high, and, initially, I loved it. It had a sense of exploration Mass Effect 3 was seriously lacking and the TGES Mining Base really reminded me of Noveria... It was spot on.

For the first article, I asked faestock, Tasastock, and kirilee all about how to set up a shooting area. Let's see what wisdom they have for us!
What are the best kind of lights? How many should I have? What kind of bulbs give the best light?
:iconfaestock: Faestock says:
If you have access to studio lighting then I prefer to use a large Elenchrom soft box. The soft box provides a soft flattering light for most subjects. A direct flash can be harsh, using some kind of filter, like a beauty dish, grate or soft box is better. I would also suggest rigging the stand with wheels so it is easily adjustable, as one inch to the left can make all the difference when you

Novax Starcrew: Chapter 1Novax Starcrew: Chapter 11 year ago in Personal More Like This
A Rude Awakening
Let me tell you a tale of a newborns journey within Starcrew, and how difficult the road can be.
I remember waking up hearing my alarm going off, screeching a hideous noise, although this wasn't my actual alarm. It was simply the alarm of, some shit is going down, and you need to get up, otherwise I would sleep all day,
I slowly got out of bed, reached over to the intercom and told them I was coming down. The ship was cold, it had been weeks since we rested at a space city, and we would save fuel by keeping the heating down.
Peering outside of my window, while I was getting dressed, staring into the nothingness of space, I noticed how much the colder the world seemed, perhaps a foreshadowing of things to come. But I didn't let it bother me, I stepped outside into living quarters hallway, a large thump came from Kroes room, you could say he isn't really the early bird type. The hallway was nicely lit, making the place seem more plea

I've been away because I've been sick. A good kind of sick, mind you. I have a bun in the oven and have been spending a lovely 3 months clutching the toilet bowl. Holy pizza balls! Pregnancy nausea is horrible! But let me tell ya, once I got over it I felt so awesome that the thought of climbing Mount Everest doesn't even phase me. Haha... so I'd like to think. XD Yep, surviving the first trimester is a real ego booster. I have new respect for all the mommas out there. R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
I'm starting things slow and have been flexing my arting muscles over on tumblr, so if you'd like to see what I'm up to, head on over there: http://roorurooster.tumblr.com. Work on the comics "Gravity" and "NTGW" will start up again, albeit at a slightly decelerated rate. Adjusting to new routines and all that.
And lastly, Happy 2014! I didn't get to post a wish in my journal. Better late than never!

Myths About Circumcision You Likely Believe (pt 1)Original article by Lillian Dell'Aquila Cannon and Darcia Narvaez. I'm sharing what was posted via Psychology Today. This was not written by 8manderz8Myths About Circumcision You Likely Believe (pt 1)3 years ago in Personal More Like This
When I was pregnant with my first child, I just thought that circumcision was what you did, no big deal, and that every man was circumcised. Then one day I saw a picture of a baby being circumcised, and everything changed. Just one tiny, grainy photo was enough to make me want to know more, and the more I knew, the worse it got. It turns out, circumcision really is a big deal.
Part 1 - Circumcision Surgery Myths
Myth 1: They just cut off a flap of skin.
Reality check: Not true. The foreskin is half of the penis's skin, not just a flap. In an adult man, the foreskin is 15 square inches of skin. In babies and children, the
Why Can't We Have Nice Things Anymore? While I haven’t yet seen it yet, the theme’s in Brad Bird’s “Tomorrowland” movie have a certain tangency with my own recent thoughts and observations on science fiction and futurism. Many – particularly in my own generation – seem to pine for the future we were promised in the 60’s and 70’s. The reading (and re-reading) choices of many of my peers seem to reflect that by turning our imaginations back to the future possibilities painted when looking ahead from the mid-20th century. Why Can't We Have Nice Things Anymore?5 months ago in Personal More Like This
Coupled with that trend of looking backwards for our future, I hear again and again that optimism is harder to find when looking forward from today and/or that today’s scifi writers are wallowing in dystopian futures. And I can’t disagree with either of those observations. But the question that now plagues me is “why”?
The human capacity for hope is great, as is our ability to make lemonade from lemons. So what’s impeding that

Sans serif — Roman
In this article/tutorial I will show you how to design a typeface. I will cover the basics and show you how to design advanced letters as well. There is so much I can talk about though, so if people like this article I might expand on this with future articles and get more into detail. I will only cover the design though, so you will have to research how to do the spacing and programming and turn your typeface into a usable font—or wait until I might do an article on that as well, but I don’t have such an article planned anytime soon.
What will we design?
I will first show you how to design some basic letters for a geometric sans typeface like Futura, because it utilizes geometric shapes, which is always my starting point for every typeface regardless of style. O

Over the years I have produced a range of tutorials on artistic use of the computer. Most of them concerns rather general concepts and can hopefully give something regardless of which program you are using or even be of some interest for traditional, non-digital artists. Some examples of my art can be found in the gallery.
That said, to get the most out of these you should know that I mainly use the open-source image manipulation program GIMP. I also work a lot with the painter program MyPaint. These are both very powerful programs capable of great artistic expression. Being open-source programs, they are both legally free to download and use without any cost. They exist for many platforms, including Linux, Mac and Windows, so they are worth trying out if you haven't already.
The tutorials listed below tend are (ver
