We want to especially thank an elite core of Odyssey II writers:
Those deviants truly embodying the spirit of the project by continuing to create and submit next chapters – no matter the story’s refusal to go along with their proposed direction. The zeitgeist is a powerful force, but the artist must know when to sail against the been-there-done-that. And our writers, artists and poets have been doing that week after week. So many artists and writers continue to send in wonderful material week after week.
We have decided to extend the writing deadline for the last chapter to December 31 and we're

Final Thoughts from Clive Barker
Odyssey. I can think of no better word to describe the journey that took place these past few months.
With the prologue, “They’re Mad, They Are,” I began work on a vessel that was not yet ready for sea. And on that holed ship, together we embarked over open waters towards an unknown destination.
What I then witnessed both touched and humbled me. You, the mighty crew of the HMS Ody

Odyssey II is the second mass collaboration event to be conceived on deviantART this time under the watchful gaze and guiding hand of none other than Clive Barker - - the master of fantastical narratives. The result will be published next year in digital and traditional book form.
Read about the Project and participate in the creative event of the new millennium (before it ends, of course, with the apocalypse). Here is the current prompt inspired by the latest Odyssey II chapter chosen by Clive.

Is Paul’s final scream the sound of his soul being released?
Can he have an existence outside of his corporeal being, outside “nothingness?”
Or is this spectral plane the only reality to the trusted – the only viewing platform offering a truly objective view?
ONLY TWO(!!!) chapters left, and still we don’t know the possible parameters of the alien invasion. Obviously, in chapter 7, being the penultimate piece of storytelling, all consequences and secret alignments of forces must be revealed. And the set-up for the gut-grating, mind-mulching clim

“See a penny pick it up, all the day you’ll have good luck!”
It doesn’t matter that I’m not a little kid, I still pick up pennies for luck when I see them. Though they have to be heads-up, of course. I also refuse to walk under ladders, I don’t open umbrellas indoors, and I try my best to avoid cracks in the sidewalk. It might be silly superstition, or maybe there’s something more to it.
What ever you believe, cultures and countries around the world and throughout time have decided that different symbols, animals, and events represent good luck.
Check out some of our favorite signs of good luck below!
I want to hear from you!
How did these symbols get their meaning?
Do you believe in good luck and bad luck?

Artists will then have two full weeks to illustrate our final chapter - meaning artwork for Chapter 8 will be due by January 14, 2013. Any Animations/films and poetry deadlines are now extended until Jan 14! The final battle to block Tal’shen’s launch of the takeover of Earth. Paul, from whose own body Tal’shen, the gelatinous beaked tentacled monster, was gestated and born. Paul says he knows how to destroy the creature. And who better than he, he being half “mother” of the monster.
So now 800 words, give or take, is the space we have to wind up our story, a story that has expanded and mutated like the first bit of subway vomit that was Paul’s ticket into what has now swollen to Lovecraf

I am incredibly grateful to once again be able to share this process with all of you. Having Clive Barker on board for Odyssey II is truly an enlightening and educative experience. There is nothing more thrilling than reading through each of the entries and then re-reading the chapters that truly resonate and carry with them immense writing skill. This story could have gone in so many worthy directions and genres, and there was no end to the creativity and storytelling skill on so many of the submissions.Odyssey Update 13 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This

When deviantART and Five Four decided to let the community take the lead...
It is only with the passage of time and chance moment of retrospective that the memories of an event from a decade past reveal that event to have been a harbinger of things to come – a prescient preview but of how people would very soon be changing the way they live their lives, and even defining their lives; a fundamental turn in what is to be valued in life and how to live it. The event of note occurred at the dawn of a new century and involved a group of young men were starting up a new apparel company not so much as a way to get rich (the old century paradigm) but as a way to express themselves and their lifestyle (the new century paradigm).

PE DDs: When It's Not Always PositiveWhen DDs Go AwryPE DDs: When It's Not Always Positive3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Daily Deviations, or “DDs,” are frequently held in very high esteem on deviantART. After all, what artist does not want his or her work displayed for more than 20 million viewers to see and admire? The benefits of receiving a DD feature include increased exposure for your work and a day in the spotlight for you as an artist. Many people therefore view DDs as badges of honor, awards that make them proud and validate the time they spend in our community.
Be careful what you wish for!
Don’t get us wrong-- DDs are wonderful for the purposes listed above. But, they can also bring a lot of drama upon the artist, especially if they are controversial.
Let’s talk about some of the sources of this drama.
Some people feel that people who post art-- and especially those whose art is worthy of a Daily Deviation-- should have thick enough skin to accept criticism as well as praise. They argue that criticism is part
