Tarantarantaraaaaa! Luca, the biggest doll yet, is fiiiniiished!! I actually finished him on Monday but couldn't get a slot in the photo studio until this morning.

SO. Where do I start! This is *Vertaki's Luca, a very proud, majestic character with lots of fluff and horns! I spent most of the time making him listening to System of a Down and watching Rambo. I used four packs of red feathers and two packs of gluesticks making him but I still have a few black feathers left!

He is the biggest posable doll I have made yet - not as big as Chemosit but Chemosit isn't posable - and is about the size of a real cat. His wings bend at the 'elbow' and 'wrist' so they are also posable (made a breakthrough there!), his feet bend at the 'wrist' too so he's slightly more posable than the dolls I make with gryphon feet. He has toothpick bones to make sure he doesn't get noodle-leg syndrome and each horn on his head has an armature of its own.

My favourite parts were cutting the pattern and making the horns, that was so much fun. His fur is SO soft and kind of shiny - Vertaki chose it herself out of a selection I sent of three - and has a red sheen in the right light. His wings are supposed to have a sort of dusty purple sheen to them but I found that quite hard to do so just left them black.

He's painted with acrylic and then protected with a matt varnish. It's not very matt though so I was a tad annoyed, but at least the paint won't scratch off now. He has some high gloss varnish on his eyes and claws.

I'm glad he's finished, I'm so proud of him. He was a really fun project and I learnt a lot making him too.

So *Vertaki! I hope you like him! :aww:

This is a solid boulder opal carefully hand wrapped in Argentium sterling silver. This one is a Christmas gift for my mom, but she doesn't come here so it's safe to share it with you. Opal was my first gemstone sweetheart, and I still carry heartstrings for it!

Boulder opal is a type of opal that stays in the host ironstone matrix, and as such it's a lot easier for me to wire wrap, as I have less fear about scratching or cracking it. It's generally more durable than other types of opal. This boulder opal is from the Koroit Area; Queensland; Australia. Though it doesn't show in this still photograph, the veins of opal fire dance through the entire middle section, in all colors of the rainbow! It's really very, very pretty.

FAQ stuff, please read before asking:

- Yes! I do sell these! Though this one is for my mom, I have lots of other pendants. They are for sale here: [link]

-I hand wrap these pieces with nothing more than my fingers and some bitty pliers.
-I purchase the stones already cut and polished from rock and gem shows.
-My silver is purchased directly from a precious metals silver refinery.
-I use several different gauge and shaped wires in each piece.
-My methods are 100% self taught, unplanned, and haphazard and I do not plan on creating tutorials on how to make these. If you want to learn wire-wrapping there are already some good tutorials out there if you search on Google. Just please be respectful of the work and years I've invested in learning how to create my pendants and don't directly copy my work (I rely on these to pay my bills!).

Thanks for looking. :)

Laser cut, stained, plywood frame and backing with etched brass centre piece, designed, cut and assembled by myself.

This was a long running commission for [link] to go in his amazing new house. It took much longer than anticipated but it was important to get it right.

Special thanks to 4D Modelshop ( [link] ) for letting me use their laser cutter and etching equipment.
