Flight photography doesn’t have to be an unreachable goal for you. As difficult as it may seem, making consistently good flight images is possible if you practice and keep a few principles in mind.
There are two elements to consider for successful avian flight photography: motor skills and technical skills.
Motor skills refer to quick reflexes, the ability to track the bird and pressing the shutter at the right moment. To practice your motor skills, it would be ideal to find a colony of Gulls where flight is frequent and use a medium telephoto lens to practice tracking them. Super-telephotos will be an additional challenge because of the extremely narrow field of view. If you are using a zoon lens, it’s better to acquire the bird in the wider setting and then zoom in to fill the frame once you have it in focus.
Before we get to the technical part, let’s talk equipmen

We are looking for bird photographs where the weather is also a part of the photograph. This includes birds in rain, snow, ice, wind, fog, etc. You can also submit birds with clouds behind them. We do have a fallback, but we ask for your honor in only using it if you do not have anything else to submit. This way more members will be able to enter. We will also accept sunshine but please only submit sunshine shots if you really do not have anything else. I want this contest to be fair to everyone, but I'd hate for it to end up being only birds in the sun. Some good exampl

Bird Portraits Contest
Entries are now closed.
What is a Portrait? A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant. The intent is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person. For this reason, in photography a portrait is generally not a snapshot, but a composed image of a person in a still position. A portrait often shows a person looking directly at the painter or photographer, in order to most successfully engage the subject with the viewer.
What will we accept? We are not looking for just a photo of a bird, please only submit photos that fit in the description above. The bird may not be moving in any way, so no action shots will be accepted. Whi

:iconcuteheartzblue: Welcome to Unframed-Nature's Special Edition Article, Vol. 1 :iconcuteheartzblue:
:iconlovethesunshineplz: MAIN PURPOSE :iconlovethesunshineplz:
In Addition to our FIVE original folders that we've had since the beginning of 2012,
and the News Folder that we added in the middle of 2012,
we added FIVE Special Folders to our Group, at the beginning of 2013.
WHY DID WE DO THIS?
The main reason we did this, was to bring a deeper meaning to our Group, as far as our love and concerns for Nature.
With special news articles after every three months, which will reflect the work submitted to these folders, we are able to help share and spread awareness about particular issues that have an impact on Nature, which we would likely care about given the original idea for this group, to begin with. If you joined this group it is because you love and care about Nature,
Allopreening FeatureAllopreening is a behavior often seen in a mated pair of birds (allogrooming also occurs in mammal species most notably primates). Allopreening is the mutual preening of another birds feathers. Sometimes the preening will switch back and forth from bird to bird. This behavior can be performed to enhance feather maintenance (keeping feathers clean of parasites) or to strengthen social bonds. The receiver of the preening will often lower their head, fluff out their feathers and in general have an 'Awwmygawh that feels good' look on their face. Birds attached to humans will also preen their humans, either trying to preen their hair, beard, moustache, eyebrows...eyelashes... It's one of the most adorable bird behaviors I've ever seen (well, with the exception of a parrot trying to preen your eyelashes, that might hurt).Allopreening Feature3 months ago in Personal More Like This

Hi all! So the polls have shown that the new theme will be active animals for the contest at #ArtisticAnimals!I am very excited for this theme. I had a few more good suggestions for a theme, which all seemed to revolve around water, so that will probably be our next contest
Anyways, onto the current contest.

Update and New Contest!Hello everyoneUpdate and New Contest!9 months ago in Personal More Like This
I apologise for the lack of an update and contest for the last couple of months however it was because I finished working fulltime and changed to fulltime study. The other reason I couldn't hold a contest is because I couldn't afford to buy premium memberships for contest prizes. However I recently received my tax return back from work so I can hold a contest nowContest details will be provided below in this journal so please have a look! I would love to have more participants this time around so please let your friends and fellow animal photography groups know about it.
I would also like to welcome our new members and watchers to the group(I am still getting around to welcoming everyone and handing out llamas so please be patient with me) When our group hits 1,000 members I am going to host a special event with lots of prizes so stay tuned! One of the competitions will involve a 1 month premium membership for the first person to take a screensho

We had about 160 fabulous Fall entries to this Autumn Contest, to share what each participant felt was a "BOLD Perspective on Autumn" and we were just stunned by these truly awesome entries!
This was a difficult contest for our wonderful judges to take on, as they were judging on both quality within the medium as well as adherence to the theme! The judges commented to me, with high praise for all the entries, and our Admins., agree! So, well done to ALL participants.
I can't thank our judges enough for the time and effort they put into this...

We are proud to announce our next major contest! The theme, chosen by the poll, will be a Butterfly contest, for both photography and art.
So without further ado here are the rules and regulations, yadda, yadda....
What we are looking for:What you feel is your best photograph or artwork of a butterfly. It can be any species of butterfly, even the ones that look like moths. As for actual moths since they are pretty much closely related (as far as I can tell) we can accept them too.
Hints: Try to submit something with vivid colors, an interesting composition, or something rare and unusual. This can apply to both photos and artwork.
I am OK with butterflies featured with other animals, i.e, a butterfly perched on a dog's nose or something of the lik
