Not everyone's Teiko uniforms are ready just yet, but we wanted to get a feel of things for the proper shoot so we did this for practice. It gave us a chance to try out our wigs and makeup and junk to see what we need to improve on for our actual cosplays.

I'll eventually make DA-compatible version of it, but that will have to wait. I can't exactly use the same kind of layout format as with my previous tutorials, as this one has waaaay too varying kinds of images to fit into a mold like that and still look good. And holy moly, that's a lot of text! Took me several hours to write! But at least I've explained things by depth, hrrmh. o_o
Indeed, I drew that image over a month ago, and I've had the all the necessary pieces of the tutorial lying around, ready to be tutorialized, ever since. But with everything else going on it had to wait. But now the tutorial is done and I'm going to have some icecream! And then it's time to draw yet another comic page...
Which leads me to this: Eeee! I can't believe the cover page for the prologue chapter got a DD! I'm so happy! I've been smiling so bad that my whole face hurts. When I lo

How to get noticed on deviantARTHow to get noticed on deviantART8 months ago in Personal More Like This
So I occasionally hear people talk about how they rarely get any comments or attention on deviantART which in turn can lead to them seek out other art communities or even get a bit depressed about how their art isn't getting any attention!
Being a part of deviantART for 8 years (since 2006) I might have some tips about how you can get noticed more. Hopefully it can be of help to you but remember that there is one major ingredient you'll need in any case: PATIENCE. This is not a journal about how to get better with art, but it's about how you can become a better community member.
Without further ado, here are some of the steps I can think of right now that might help you become a better deviant:
1) Being an active member
As with pretty much any community on the internet, deviantART requires you to be an active member in order for more people
Dirty minds see dirty images... *update at bottom*It has been said that the human mind can imagine things a lot more detailed when it has to fill in the blanks.Dirty minds see dirty images... *update at bottom*3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Being shown something in plain view, our brains just process it as "something".
But when we are looking at something that is either censored, out of view, or concealed, our brains are boggled with the possibilities of what is being hidden - the imagination takes over and it can be "anything"!
That is why naughty images which are censored seem naughtier.
The off-screen monster which we can't see seems scarier.
The Christmas present which is wrapped seems more special.
With that being said...
Does that means if an image is offensive to someone, even though nothing is being shown, they are thinking more dirtier thoughts than others?
I have to admit that an image of lightly concealed female nude - using clothing or body positioning - can seem a little more erotic to me than a flat out photo of a naked woman.
So... does that mean this image of a redhea
DA's Insular Taste PhenomenonIt's been quite a while since I wrote a preachy "THINK ABOUT YO' ART"-type journal, and some of my newer watchers may not know that this is a particular(ly annoying) habit of mine. This is a subject I've had on my mind for quite some time for a number of reasons, and it's recently coalesced into a semi-soluble form so here we go. (As an aside- this journal does have some recycled ideas from a previous post of mine, but obviously I hadn't really said everything I wanted to on the subject.)DA's Insular Taste Phenomenon3 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's no mystery that I love this website. I came in at the tail end of the pre-critique wonder years, when the internet discovered and exploited that, yes, we don't always produce the highest quality art here. There's a lot of unpleasantness directed towards DeviantArt. At RISD, I made a point to never mention that I had an account here, because of the looks of disgust I would get haha and people would think about me differently. It was

The latest graphic tablets (now affordable for most anyone,) matched with the latest high-definition screens (displaying billions of colors,) connected to the latest computers (whose size are measured in inches and not feet,) all to render work near instantaneously. It's hard to imagine that with what we have today, publishers and artists were using these same types of devices as much as 40 years ago to set type, scan images, or even draw pictures.
So if you were an artist in the late 1970's, what would it have been like?
Well, click here (or above) to watch a video to get a bit of an idea.
If that's anything to go by, straight-up drawing was still a little out of reach. But you could scan drawings, save them, view them on a screen, scale them,

I have always loved anthologies. Growing up in Britain 95 percent of the comics were weekly anthologies so it has been firmly ingrained in my psyche.
I've always felt that anthologies are a good platform for experimentation, trying new ideas and styles, introducing new talent and especially good to read in the bathroom. I'll never forget the impression Heavy Metal had on me when I first saw it.
They're perfect for those moments when you've read through the 100 comics you've bought that month and realized there wasn't a single complete story in the pile.
I've recently relaunched two previously successful anthologies, A1 and MONSTER MASSACRE.
I have also been enjoy

So You Wanna Make Some Merch...
A brief overview about the different printing and merchandise options I've come across.
An original article by kabocha
If you've ever been to a convention...
I'm sure you've noticed the artists and exhibitors there, with all their neat items and various things for sale... And perhaps, after a while, you decide that you, too, want to join in the fray.
Well, as I've recently learned, preparing for the Artist Alley can be a frazzling experience. There are so many questions, such as:
What kind of artwork should I do?
What kind of merchandise sells well?
How am I going to display my stuff?
Where am I going to get this all done...?!
Well, to be honest, I can't really answer the first three for you. It's a bit tricky. Some of it has to do with your placement in the alley,
In Defense Of Art, The Artist, And The TruthNote: This journal entry is a response to another one, "In Defense Of Making A Living Through Art" by Droemar. My argument began as a long winded comment that mirrored the sentiments expressed there, but attempted to provide a different perspective on the matter as well. It has now been added here by request. I encourage everyone to give the original journal a read, as the subject matter it tackles is important, both mercilessly heartfelt and honest. At times it requires great bravery to stand up and admit the truth; I commend the artists that do it every day of their lives, but perhaps it's time the rest of the world learn something of courage too. I suppose this was my attempt to do so, and whether or not it changes anything in your life, is up to you.In Defense Of Art, The Artist, And The Truth2 years ago in Personal More Like This
This whole issue pisses me off.
Let me start by saying that I don't know if this post, my post, changes anything. It probably doesn't, but it's a perspective that I think desperately needs to be hear

Bobby Chiu's 4 keys to setting good goalsGOOOAAALS! The World Cup is the perfect time to talk about goals.Bobby Chiu's 4 keys to setting good goals9 months ago in Personal More Like This
Setting good goals is useful to not just artists but anyone who wants to achieve something.
When I graduated college and started my career, my goals were unfocused. Basically, I just wanted to get a job doing what I love, which in my case is of course drawing and painting. That was my whole goal. I didn't aim for anything more than that, and as a result, my career went nowhere.
Then, after reflecting on my career and examining the careers of people I admired (again, not just artists), I developed a master plan for my success that basically boiled down to four things:
1. Recognize the importance of setting goals.
Let's say you have the extraordinary ability to kick a ball farther and more accurately than anyone you know. As a result, you want to become a soccer player. But then when you're on the soccer pitch and the ball comes to you, you just kick it as hard as you can in what

How tentaculas are madePeople keep asking about Love and Tentacles, but I'm sorry to say that comic is as good as dead. I might draw a picture once in a while because Frida can be fun to draw, but I don't even think about LaT most of the time, unlike my other comics which enter my head daily. How tentaculas are made2 years ago in Personal More Like This
But people are apparently dying to know if Tom and Frida ever had kids, and if it could even be done. So I'll give you and explanation on that.
Tentaculas have reproductive tentacles around their waist (the thin pink ones that gets thick when they get aroused). Males and females rub them against each other and release semen and eggs into water (in these modern times its usually a bathtub unless they're hippies). They are left to float around until the fertilized eggs hatch and the tiny young eats the un-fertilized eggs. Then they move on to swallowing each other, until only one is left. Sounds unpleasant, but that is why tentaculas in general are very healthy and handicaps are almost unheard of unless they get inj
Inspired ArtI once thought that you should "paint what you know". Each artist has a unique background from which we can draw from. This is a sure way to create art with authentic detail and intimacy. In theory this is great and sometimes true, but more often than not it leads to boring and uninspired work. To simply paint what you know, is far too limiting!Inspired Art3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Now I am of the opinion that you should create the art that you would like to see. The real thrill is in exploring these new horizons, and blazing your own trail. For me, this is vital to the enjoyment of being an artist. Allow your art to surprise you, and let inspiration be your guide.
