A pinup for the Viking trade paperback (by Ivan Brandon and Nic Klein and published by Image Comics). This drawing comprises my first (and so far only) participation in the world of professional comics, and I'm hugely indebted to both Ivan and Nic for taking a chance on me. If you haven't read Viking, you should check it out -- Nic's painterly illustrations are spectacular, Ivan has a knack for creatively-orchestrated violence, and the whole book is handsomely presented in an oversize format. Check it out: [link]

In the book, Egil is an impulsive berserker who curb-stomps guys for looking at him funny (really, this happens and it's super-grody). His adoption of a stray kitten, however, reveals a vestigial tenderness. My illustration posits that cat and man might have more in common than their mutual esteem for grog.

This illustration was drawn and colored in Photoshop using a Wacom Cintiq 21UX tablet monitor. Most lines were hand-drawn using the brush tool on default settings, though I used paths to draw the ship's contours.

The first piece from my new personal project.

"Hutsuls are an ethno-cultural group of Ukrainian highlanders who for centuries have inhabited the Carpathian mountains, mainly in Ukraine."

I have some Hutsul roots as well :)
