Korra started, not unfolding the well-worn and sweat stained parchment. "She?"
Lin nodded. "She. Go on, open it. My mother carried it with her wherever she went. She gave it to me before she died. I thought it would be interesting for you to see it."
Korra unfolded the parchment, and gave a tiny gasp. It was a drawing, with raised lines so Toph could 'see' it. It was a drawing of Master Katara, laughing. Under it were a series of raised dots that Korra didn't understand. She looked up at the older woman, bewildered. "This is Master Katara. What does it say?"
"Princess. My mother's nickname for her."
"Then that means that that Toph"

This was Theta's first night at this project, and he was shy, very shy. There were a lot of big people, and he was just so small, a boy who was only the age of six. This was scary, but at least his daddy was here, and he already met a few of his friends.
Daddy must have been away from his room. "Daddy?" he asked, his voice a bit louder. Still nothing back. He wined softly and sat up in his small bed. "Daddy?!"
Finally, North's head peaked around the corner of his room and smiled, walking slowly to his son's aid. "Yes, Theta? What's my big boy want this late?"
"I can't sleep..." Theta said, leaning over and wrapping his little arms around North's neck and hugging him. "Can you read me a story?"
"I can't, me, York, and Wash are talking right now and-"
"Can they tell it too?" Theta asked, pulling away and his eyes widened and he stu

"North? North! Get up! Why are you sleeping?"
It was hard to tell where the bullet entered his body. There was so much blood. But North was tough; he could handle anything. He just needed to rest, and then he'd kill this thing that was trying to take him away. He promised he'd protect him. He was only sleeping...right?
Come with us, Theta.
He turned to face the source of the voices. He was shocked and delighted to find his brothers and sisters, who were not even five feet away. His joy turned into horror when he realized they were surrounding the monster who wanted to take Theta. He turned back to North who was only asleep why won't he get up come on North wake up wake up wake up!

RvB: Goodbye, David There was broken glass on the floor. It glittered in the artificial light from the lamp as the brown liquid slowly rolled across the wood. Wash sat in front of the bed, leaning against it, holding his bloody hand in his lap. She sat a few feet away, back to the dresser, a book in front of her face. He didn't even have to pay attention to her to know she wasn't really reading, she was just staring at the pages displayed, just something to do to try and hide from him. Though, he assumed, she didn't really want away from him if she was still in the room. A Freelancer ChristmasThe holiday season was in interesting time for the Freelancers. All year long they would go on dangerous missions for the Director, spar against each other to increase their skills and practice using all of their special equipment on and off the field. As demanding a job they had, the Freelancers always seemed to make time to celebrate Christmas in their own special way.A Freelancer Christmas3 years ago in General Fiction More Like This
Agent North Dakota had decided to wake up very early on Christmas morning to surprise his comrades with nice dinner, something the team wasn't really used to. He was sure no one would be awake before noon since they had just returned from a long and difficult mission later the night before.
As North walked down the hallway to the kitchen he heard voices coming from the rec room. Curious as to who was awake at this hour, North walked into the Freelancers' recreational room only to see York and Washington fumbling noisily through dusty cardboard boxes.
"What are you guys up to?" North asked, successfully startling the ot

Without her, Project Freelancer would have no purpose.
She was the true creator of the Project.
He had spent his life searching for a way to bring Allison back. His love for her motivated his every move, his every breath. Losing her so quickly had broken his heart but at the same time awakened a part of his mind he didn't know existed-pure determination. There was a way he could bring her back, but doing so would only be possible through the use of artificial intelligence.
She wouldn't be his Allison, but she would be alive.
The process had taken him years to discover. Posing as an ally of the military was a great way to get access to resources unavailable to the common scientist. Of course he was researching the advantages an AI integrated into the suit of a soldier would have to their performance; of course the request for the military's top agents was purely to strengthen the resistance against the invading aliens.

The Mother of Invention was silent.
Everyone knew why.
And nobody had the will to protest the silence.
Ever since The Incident, the break-in at Freelancer Command, nothing had been the same. Gone were the missions. Gone were the training schedules. Gone was the manic need to prove yourself, to gain approval from Director Church. And gone were the agents that made Project Freelancer what it was.
Texas went AWOL. York went AWOL with Texas (nobody saw that coming). Maine went on an Insane Killing Spree. North and South were Missing In Action. Who the hell knew, where Wyoming was? Carolina was...
Carolina was... "Lost to us while attempting to secure the objective" as the Director put it, stoic as ever.

When Church awoke, he was surrounded by darkness. He had no recollection of how he got here, where he was, or what he was doing before he was unconscious. He started to hear voices.
It's him! The Alpha! Alpha! Alpha! Is he okay? Yes, is he damaged? Give him space!
Oh no...no...no...NO! He couldn't be here, anywhere but here! But with all the voices whispering Alpha! he knew it was true. Sigma had won. That bastard had won.
Will he speak? Yes, speak! Speak!
With all the whispers getting louder and more plentiful, Church was finding it hard to concentrate. No wonder The Meta went crazy. First thing's first.
The voices immediately fell silent. He heard one of them murmur He speaks! before it was shushed. He could see the faint outlines of the A.I.s surrounding him. He was sure that Epsilon's memories would soon inform him who they were.

Hey Church, don't be so mad.
I can make you feel so much better.
Would you please let me back into the base
So I can start to make you happy.
Hey Church, I'm kind of scared.
Tex just told me that she might kill me.
She said she might kick me out of my skin.
What does that mean? Can you explain it?
Anytime you're getting mad, it's not so bad.
It's not my fault. Let's just say TUCKER DID IT.
We all know he's really dumb, oh, here he comes.
We should go before we catch his pregnancy.

Hey Church, I'm your best friend.
You know I like you, and I like Sheila.
But I still hate things like Tucker and babies.
What I like most is... Me. I like me.
Please don't make me do any math. I need a bath.
I'll do that and then it will be food-nap time.
I don't know what's going on. So let's move on.
Washington explained it to me badly.

It was Maine’s.
This brought back some memories from Project Freelancer. The old prank wars...
Wash was walking to his room when he came across Maine and his girlfriend, Rhode Island, outside of Arizona’s room. Rhode was holding Maine’s air horn, while he was holding a can of silly string.
Wash cleared his throat, causing the two to whip around in alarm.
“What are you two doing?”
“Oh, nothing much. I’m just introducing Zona to someone that I like to call ‘Mr. Air Horn.’ He makes a profound argument for getting up.”
“You do realize that she’s going to kill you two for that, right?”
“Not if she can’t catch us!”
He wanted no part of this. “At least wait until I’m out of sight.”

When Wyoming came along, he was beside himself with joy. With Gamma's Time Distortion, there was no way Omega could lose. Or so he thought. The Blood Gulchers, namely Church, somehow managed to fuck up his plans again.
He was just about to give up. That's when Maine, or should he say The Meta, and Sigma came along and took him away. With these two on his side, he'd be unstoppable! He too began to obsess with the Alpha, but for different reasons. If he got the Alpha, the Blood Gulchers were doomed. Everything was going along nicely. Washington was only an obstacle. He even delivered the Alpha right to them! But, it seemed like Omega and Sigma underestimated him. Church, AKA the Alpha, was able to screw them over and got away in the EPM blast. Omega thou

Was the sound of Sarge's shotgun as he fired it in the snowy mountain range.
Several of the scattered shotgun pellets hit directly on the side of the Meta's face. Unfortunately, the Meta was too far out of range for the shotgun to do any real damage. Instead his shields did their job well by absorbing the hit.
The Meta quickly turned to face Sarge right when he called out, "Come here ya big son of a bitch!"
The Meta had lost his brute-shot during the previous fight, but that didn't stop him. He had taken several stab wounds from Tex's knife as well as taking a direct hit from Tucker's sword.
The two started to slowly approach each other as Sarge continued to shoot the Meta with his shotgun. Each blast lowered the Meta's shields until they were completely depleated. But the Meta continued to advance on Sarge.
Both Grif and Simmons were watching the fight from a safe distance. "What is Sarge doing?" asked Grif.
"Looks like he's killing himself."

I will not join the side of the Villain. He would either be abusive towards me, or I would be killed in the crossfire of his and the Hero's epic final battle.
If we are attacked, I will be sure to give at least one loud shriek so the Hero's natural instinct to protect damsels in distress will kick in and I'll have a nice solid shield of flesh swinging a sword around for me and attracting our attacker's attention while I quietly dispatch the enemies I can reach while staying behind him.
